Chapter Fourteen: Unexpected Meeting

Jo's Point of View "Wesley, I'll be alright. I need some time alone by the trees to think. Felix won't object. If anything goes amiss, I'll contact one of you immediately. Please, I need a few hours of solitude for reflection. Rica will be with me," I murmured. "Fine. Stay safe, Luna. Aralia has something to discuss with me today, so I appreciate the opportunity to spend the afternoon with my mate. I wouldn't want Alpha Felix to be displeased with me for allowing you to wander off alone," Wesley sighed. Wesley had been taking his assigned role as my protector very seriously. Technically, Gamma Damian was supposed to guard me. Still, given the nature of our relationship, Felix had thought it best for Wesley to be the one to guard me, especially since he continued to train me in using my powers. So Wesley did know that I would be okay on my own. I'd proven as such time and again in our training sessions. Rica expressed her surprise in my mind at the reluctance to give us some space despite us showcasing our abilities as the most powerful individuals present. I completely agree with you, Rica. Clara is consumed with organizing the Luna ceremony, Felix is concerned about the pups due to the energy I expended during the Hunter Foundation incident, and Lennox and Bethany are eager to embrace the role of grandparents and forge a deeper connection with me. All I desire is a breath of fresh air, I confided in my wolf. Felix and I were taken aback by the news that we were expecting twins, which was entirely unexpected since we had only anticipated one child. While my mate was excited yet apprehensive, the announcement utterly overwhelmed me. The responsibilities ahead were numerous – from uncovering my family history and mastering my abilities to embracing the role of Luna and being a life partner. Witnessing my father's renewed interest in fatherhood brought back memories of the Lennox I knew as a child. Meeting my mother, the warrior Luna Bethany, was enlightening. She was convinced I would follow in her footsteps, but I questioned if she truly understood me. You will embody the warrior Luna role but with your unique approach. At the moment, it involves showing gentleness, kindness, and love in a world that often overlooks these qualities. Consider yourself a warrior of the heart, my wolf concluded. The last time I ventured into the forest, I gathered herbs and plants to make a unique infusion for Silas. Little did I know, I was a werewolf, Felix was my mate, and I had unraveled my intricate lineage. It's surprising how quickly one's life can transform. I refrained from going as far as I had previously. Felix had taken us quite a distance on his motorcycle then. As I navigated through the dense, ancient red pine forest, I emerged from the thicket. The trees parted, unveiling a serene open space bathed in gentle, dappled sunlight filtering through the high canopy above. Late autumn was upon us, and snow was imminent. In the heart of the clearing, two large, sturdy logs were strategically placed for weary hikers to rest. These logs, remnants of once majestic pines, bore a weathered yet welcoming look. Their bark was partially peeled, exposing the smooth, reddish-brown wood beneath, worn and polished by years of exposure to the elements. Positioned at just the right height for sitting, these logs offered a comfortable spot to unwind and soak in the surroundings. I sensed that I wasn't alone, although I didn't see anyone around. I didn't feel in danger, but I made sure to be aware of my surroundings as I sat down. Even though I was only in the early stages of my pregnancy, walking this far probably wasn't the wisest idea. I decided to message Aralia to let her know where I was. She always seemed to be the most relaxed person I knew. Maybe it was because Wesley's partner was an immortal forest guardian. Regardless, I was grateful for the comfort I found in connecting with her. Aralia, I've gone for a hike in the forest. Wesley knows, but since you are the forest guardian, I thought it best to tell you where I am. I'm in a clearing with two logs. It's a peaceful spot, but I get the sense I'm not alone here. I don't feel in danger, but to be safe, I'm letting you know. I didn't have to wait long for her response. The forest guardian linked me back immediately. Luna Jo, I'm about to meet Wesley to share something very important with him. I know who is currently observing you, and he will not harm you. If you'd like, I can arrange for him to approach you so you can meet him. You and Alpha Felix will need to meet him soon. I needed to tell Wesley about him first. Well, this just got interesting. I was curious as to who this individual was. I would love to meet him. Please tell me who this is since I will be formally introduced to him anyway. There was a moment of silence. I pondered whether Aralia was linked to the entity observing me. I didn't have to wait long for an answer. A stunning, tall, and muscular man emerged tentatively from the woods. I pondered his identity and nature, noticing that he appeared more anxious to meet me than I was to meet him. "Hello, I'm Jo. I'm a friend of Aralia's. What's your name?" I inquired, mustering all the confidence I could as an introvert. Meeting new people was always challenging, regardless of the situation. This encounter, however, felt particularly nerve-wracking. "I recognize you, Luna Jo. It's a pleasure to meet you face to face finally. I'm Eyrx," the man replied in a deep, captivating voice. Oh my, he's quite a sight, isn't he? Very easy on the eyes, purred Rica. His appealing physique was indeed distracting, but he was not Felix. There is no harm in just looking. You are already mated and marked. You are not dead, Rica groaned. No, thank you, I retorted to my wolf. "Do you know me?" I inquired, curious about how he knew who I was. "Aralia is my adopted mother. I know who the Alpha, Luna, Beta, Gamma, and newest members of the Dark Moon pack are," Felix answered as he sat on the log opposite the one I was perched on. I nodded in response and smiled at Eryx, intrigued that he knew of the newest members of the Dark Moon pack. Perhaps it was because they all joined around the same time? "This is a beautiful spot. It's a hidden gem that I just discovered today. It's the ideal place to relax, contemplate, and recharge. Do you visit here often?" I inquired. Eyrx visibly eased at my question, and I wondered if he was concerned about Aralia not revealing to us that she had a son. I held Aralia in high regard and trusted that she had her reasons for the timing of her disclosure. "I do. It has a secluded, almost enchanting ambiance. It's among my favorite spots in the forest," Eyrx said with a shy smile. I noticed a mark on Eyrx's wrist, similar to the one the Byte Club members and his mother bore. "Selene granted you access to the Dark Moon pack. Have you been there without our knowledge?" I asked cautiously. "No, Luna Jo. I have not crossed the magical barrier. I want to visit at some point, but only with your approval," Eyrx assured. "Is that why Aralia is discussing you with Wesley today?" I questioned. "No, Luna. It's because I believe that my mate is, or will be, part of your pack," Eyrx replied.
