The rustle of leaves plus the cool wind was what brought her to her subconscious. The air was cold and she shivered, then opened her eyes slowly. Her mind was blank and the atmosphere was dark, she had no idea where she was. She blinked severally but the only word that kept echoing in her mind was ‘Aurora’ ‘Aurora’. She tried to recognize where she was, but there were no memories. She turned her head left and right but she had not the slightest idea where she was. Her first instinct was to scream, but something held her back, that was when she realised she was naked. She immediately used both of her hands to cover her body. There probably wasn't anyone around here, or so she thought. She immediately stood to her feet and she staggered, still dazed. What was really happening? Where was she? Who was she? And what was actually going on here? Why was there a voice screaming ‘Aurora’ into her ears? She used both palms to cover her ears and shut her eyes tight, but she felt the ground spin beneath her, then she let out a loud scream, that was when she heard a voice, one that was appealing and seemed to understand her plight, a voice that sounded very familiar to hers which was unlike the whirl of the wind she had been hearing. “Calm down girl,” She heard him say. Then instinctively, she wrapped her arms to cover her breast and private parts again. “Who are you?” She shouted “What do you want from me? and what am I doing here?” She asked. She still was not sure where the voice was coming from, and she felt the cold of the wind hard on her skin. “I should be asking you who you are and what you are doing in my territory, stranger,” The voice sounded very close, and a glimmer of light shone in her eyes, she had to remove her hands from protecting her privates to shield her eyes, as the rays of the light was blinding. “Why am I not clothed?” She shouted even louder at the man whose face she could see now from the ray’s of the light. His beards had long grey strands, and he looked old and miserable. His frame was tall and very slim and he was a little bent around the shoulders, he responded almost like he was irritated by her voice “You are one of them right?” he asked and chuckled slowly “You never get tired do you? And you had to come here naked? Please have some decency and cover your body, my wife would be mad if she saw you here like this,” He looked from side to side as he spoke, obviously uncomfortable by her current state. The girl looked around again and her hands flung back to cover her womanhood “You p*****t, give me back my clothes,” She snared. Then she heard a voice inside her, “He’s harmless Aurora,” the voice said. “What's your name? it seems you are lost,” The man said in a rather calm voice “I can get some clothes for you if only you just tell me who you are,” Just then, someone threw a dress at her, someone she knew was not the old wicked man, and she hastily tried to get into the clothes even as she noticed the man had averted his eyes to look behind him at where the clothes had come from. “Beth?” She heard him call the short looking lady behind him, “What are you doing here?” he asked and walked around uncomfortably. She sniffed around the environment, and something about the woman was appealing to her, she smelt good and friendly, almost without any sin but she was not sure of the man that stood besides the woman, he looked like he was scared of her, and she could not help but wonder why any body would even be scared of her, talk more of a full grown man. “You should be asleep, What are you doing here? This lady is not any of our concern, and we promised not to help any strangers no more, so why are you here?” The lady looked at him like she was going to eat him up, and the girl felt some kind of pity for the man. “I couldn't sleep,” he explained to her “And you have refused to talk to me for days, I just took a walk and found her,” he gestured towards the girl who was now fully clad in the rags that had been thrown to her. “I'll believe it was just a coincidence,” the woman looked at him suspiciously, “And you know quite alright why I’m not speaking to you, so do not sound like you are not already aware of the present circumstance,” “We will talk about that later Beth, we need to know who this lady is and why she is on our territory,” The man turned back to the girl and raised a brow. She was mute, because she did not know who she was or what she was doing here, and she racked her brain, she searched her memory for any clue as to who these two people staring at here were, but nothing came to mind, the only thing that kept repeating in her mind was ‘Aurora,” “Who are you woman, and what do you seek? What is your name?” The woman besides the old man asked her and Aurora wanted to growl, but she listened to the voice speaking within her and let out the only thing that had been ringing in her mind for a long time now. “Aurora,” She said and she felt the hairs on her body stiffen. “Where are you from Aurora, and what do you want here?” The lady asked again, a little impatient this time. “I- I'm Aurora, and I don't know who I am or where this place is, I don’t even know what I'm doing here,” She explained “and if you can take me back to my family, I will forever be indebted to you,” She managed to let out. Then the woman laughed and the man joined in on her laughter. The sound made her uncomfortable but she pretended otherwise “Please,” She added. The woman narrowed her eyes “ Come, I’ll make you dinner,” She said “I’m Beth, and this is my husband Collins, we promise we mean no harm, and we are willing to help you, so if you don't mind coming with us, I’ll show you to our house,” The man who she now knew as Collins was a little hesitant. He frowned at his wife, before talking “ Who is your family?” he asked coldly and his wife nudged him with her elbows. “Please give the poor girl a break,” She told her husband before going closer to the girl and stretching her own hands “Come with me, I'll show you the way to the house, it's not far from here, just a few blocks away, and like I said before, I mean no harm, Aurora,” Beth was looking into her eyes now and she could not even avoid the older woman's gaze. “I believe you but he doesn't support,” She informed Beth still hesitant to take her hands. “Trust me,” the woman tried to soothe her and finally Aurora took the older lady's hands, paying no attention to the mans glare as the lady pulled her eastward from where she was standing. “He doesn't like me,” Aurora was almost whispering to the lady but she was sure the man had heard her words as they passed him. “Don’t blame him,” the lady told her in a friendly tone “You are not the first we would be finding here,” The woman increased her pace “And most times, we have harboured some bad people and Collins and I have vowed not to help any strangers on the streets but your case just seems so different and appealing to me for some reason that I cannot explain now, and I feel you are a good woman. I want nothing more than to help you,” then the lady paused in her tracks and turned to Aurora “ Are you sure you do not know who you are?” She asked. Aurora felt very uncomfortable by the question, because she hoped this was all a dream, how could she not know who she was or the people she suddenly found herself amongst? There had to be some kind of explanation, but she knew absolutely nothing and she really needed to find out, something in her cried for vengeance and she could not really place her fingers on it and seeing she had nowhere to go, she knew she had to follow this woman, and hope that she somehow remembered who she really was, because she had a lot of questions to ask and she certainly did not know who to direct those questions to because apparently these people did not know who she was. “I have absolutely no idea,” She answered “And I swear I do not know who you are, the only thing I really remember right now is my name which I have disclosed to you,” She answered the woman. Beth continued walking, still holding her hands and Aurora turned back severally to see if the old man was now following them, but he wasn’t and she was a little grateful for that. They were approaching a rather small building now and Aurora felt a little bit at ease. The house held a certain kind of calmness around it and she was glad for somewhere to lay her head that wasn't as cold as the lonely streets where the man found her. Beth squeezed her palms and she reciprocate the gesture. The woman was nice and Aurora developed an instant liking to her personality. Soon, they were in the house, and the woman ushered her into the living room. She looked around, she had never seen anything like it or had she? The house was old fashioned, and the chairs were dipped in the middle from too much usage. Beth chuckled “ You really seem to be new to all this,” She observed and Aurora nodded. She liked the house, old fashioned as it was and she was even more thrilled to find out the next house was a few meters away. The neighbourhood was big and if she had not sighted the next house from afar, she would have believed this was the only house around.  “Welcome to our home,”  Beth continued “Its just myself and Collins for now, we have two kids; Damian, our biological son who is far away in college and Sarah, who we adopted. We found her just like we found you but she was about five years then, way younger than you are, and she had just lost her foster parents, her original parents had died the same day she was born, and she had no memories of it, so we took it upon ourselves to raise her but she woke up one day and decided she did not want to be here again and we never heard from her since then,” the woman took a deep breath.  “ Collins was already fond of her, and we thought she was happy but I guess she never really was, so she walked out the first opportunity she got and that was it, she left a note for us of course and up until now we never heard from her,” Beth stared at Auroras face and easily answered the question that she had been wanting to ask. “She left last year, we raised her till she was eighteen,” the woman answered dismissively. Aurora nodded, not sure what to say or why the woman was divulging so much information to her. A part of her wanted to reach out and console this woman but the better part of her told her to keep still, and that was what she did. She just stared at the woman. “I will do what I can to help you Aurora, but you must not cause any troubles, especially for Collins,” Beth looked at the girl, her eyes almost pleading and Aurora just nodded, that was all she could do right now.
