Rylee’s P.O.V
The next morning I tried to turn over, but I was woken up by something heavy laying across my side and it confused the hell out of me, especially after my dream last night with Josh and the Moon Goddess. What the hell is this thing and why is it so heavy? I thought to myself as I felt around to figure out what it was, but as soon as I touched it I realised it was Mercury’s arm. He was holding me and at first I was enjoying the feeling of being held again, but then I started to feel weird, like I was somehow betraying Josh. I know that he told me to give Mercury a chance and that he gave me his blessing, but it still felt like it was too soon for me and it definitely was for him. I carefully lifted his arm and slid out from under it, without disturbing him. I was still wearing my clothes from yesterday, so I got out of bed, grabbed my bag and left Mercury’s bedroom. I checked the door next to his bedroom and found that it was unlocked, so I opened it and walked inside only to find that it was another bedroom, but thankfully this one looked nothing like Mercury’s.
“f**k it, this will be just right for me.” I mumbled to myself as I closed the door behind me and threw my bag on the bed. Hell, if I was going to stay in this house then I was going to have my own room, at least until I decide what I want to do. The bed was already made and there were fresh towels in the bathroom, so I was happy, especially as it had everything I needed and was missing the one thing I didn’t want just yet, Mercury Black. I took my bag and emptied my stuff into the chest of drawers then laid down on the bed. I was exhausted both emotionally and mentally after that dream last night and all I wanted to do was go back to sleep. Besides I didn’t want his kids to get the wrong idea, even though nothing happened between us, so it was better this way.
Mercury’s P.O.V
Rylee tossed and turned all night, but the second I wrapped my arm around her and pulled her close she seemed to settle down. Maybe it was the effect of the mate bond, maybe she was warming up to me, either way I didn’t care. In the morning I was woken up by her moving my arm away from her and then I heard her leave, but I didn’t make a sound or show her that I was awake. I had already asked Sandra to get the room next to mine set up and to leave it unlocked because I already knew what would happen, that she would sneak out and I was right. Rylee left here as quiet as anything, went into that room and fell asleep. It’s better for everyone that she went into that room because I don’t want my kids to get the wrong idea and think that I’m betraying their mother or her memory when I would never do that in a million years. I rolled over onto my back and I couldn’t help thinking about how good it felt to hold someone again, but it did feel strange too because she wasn’t Cheyenne. No one could ever replace her and I’m still not ready to make room in my heart for Rylee, but there is no way in hell that I’m going to let her leave this house or my life, it’s never going to happen. I learned my lesson the hard way when Cheyenne left me for a while because of the stupid way I treated her when all she was trying to do was help me see the truth of the spell that had been cast on me. I’m not going to let her get away from me, but I’m also not going to let my guard down around her either and last night it was a close call. I wasn’t watching her closely enough and it’s not going to happen again. I threw the sheets off me, got out of bed and stretched as I headed to the bathroom to take a quick shower. I needed to get to the office and check the paperwork to see who was next on my s**t list to find.
Pina’s P.O.V
The last time I spoke to Alpha Drake he told me that he was going through with his plan and had sent Rylee to Mercury’s territory to lure that human b***h out, but that was the last time I saw or heard anything of Rylee or the plan and it made me wonder if she had left after that. I doubt it though because Mercury would have taken one look at her and ripped her head off her shoulders. I still kept my eye on them, watching for anything that had changed or anything new that was going on, but I didn’t see anything except that human b***h, Ava. she was still here and it’s pissing me off. This girl has got to go, but first things first I need to let the Alpha know that she still hasn’t left. I shifted into my wolf and was just about to run back to my rogue pack when I saw something weird out of the corner of my eye. An egg. What the f**k is an egg like that out here for? Where did it come from? What’s inside it? I thought to myself as I sniffed the air around it without getting too close. f**k it, I’m not messing with this, it’s probably a trap anyway.
Ava’s P.O.V
I had told Isaiah that I wanted to know more about his pack, so he was taking me around to see everything and then we got to the nursery where the children and babies were, well that’s what I call them, but Isaiah and the others called them pups. We sat in the nursery and all I could do was smile as one girl came up to me holding out her little arms, wanting me to pick her up, so I did. I picked her up and she gave me the biggest hug, making me smile even more.
“What’s your name, sweetie pie?” I asked, making her giggle which was so cute.
“My name’s Tiffany, what’s yours?” Tiffany asked, making me smile widely at her.
“My name is Ava, sweetheart.” I replied, making her giggle cutely again. I put her back down so she could go play and we stayed there for a few more minutes before leaving. I was starting to love it here, but I still felt like I was a prisoner here.
“Is there any way I could leave, even if it's just to go for a drive around? It’s really lovely here, but staying here is starting to drive me nuts.” I asked, but the sad look on his face made me regret the way I had worded it.
“I’m sorry, it’s just that I’m used to doing whatever I want to do and here I’m constantly being watched for my protection because I’m human.” I said, quickly making him understand what I was trying to say.
“Yeah sure, let’s get outta here, but let me check in on my dad first and then we’ll go.” Isaiah replied, breathing a sigh of relief that I wasn’t trying to leave him for good. We said our goodbyes to Tiffany, then left the nursery and walked to his dads office. Isaiah knocked on the door and walked inside before his dad shouted to come in.
“Hey dad, I was wondering if you needed anything?” Isaiah asked and Mercury looked up, smirking.
“Yeah, I need you, Ava and Rylee to go with me tonight, Hawk’s also coming with us. Does anyone know where Rylee is?” Mercury asked, just as Rylee walked into the office.
“Hey, sorry, I was trying to find the kitchen when I heard my name, what’s up? Something wrong?” Rylee said and I noticed that Mercury was trying to hide the smile on his face as he saw her.
“Yeah, I was asking if they knew where you were and here you are. I need you to come with me tonight, you’re going to learn what I do.” Mercury replied, straightening his face when he saw that I was looking at him.
Rylee’s P.O.V
I was getting hungry, so I decided to find the kitchen, but just as I was going by Mercury’s office I heard my name being mentioned and it made me smirk. I decided to stay outside for a couple more seconds before walking in to find out what they were talking about and when I learned I was going to a thing with Mercury, I was excited, but I hid it because I didn’t want him thinking that I enjoyed being with him.
“So when are we heading out and where is the damn kitchen, I’ve been looking for over thirty minutes?” I asked, huffing and making Ava laugh.
“Don’t worry, girl, I had the same problem when I got here. Come on, I’ll show you.” Ava replied, making me smile at the thought of food.
Isaiah’s P.O.V
I couldn’t help smiling the whole time that Rylee and my dad were talking, they seemed to be getting along, which surprised me. I thought for sure that she would have beat his ass after he locked her in his room, yet here he was in one piece. I wanted to ask him about it, so I waited for Ava and Rylee to leave for the kitchen before I looked at my dad and smirked.
“So how did it go last night when you got back? Did she hit you?” I asked, making my dad laugh.
“Yeah, right smack in the head with her shoe, but once she saw the blood on me she took care of me. Actually she ran me a bath and sang to me, which was really relaxing. She only asked me once what happened and when I told her that I didn’t want to talk about it she dropped the subject and didn’t ask about it again.” Dad replied and I nodded.
“So that’s why you’re taking her tonight?” I asked and he nodded.
“Yeah, I’m taking her tonight to see if she can handle this life, but also to see what she can do and if she can handle herself. This is going to be a big step, so if she can handle this then I’m sure that she can deal with the rest.” Dad replied, sorting through his paperwork.
Rylee’s P.O.V
Ava and I were in the kitchen, pulling out everything we needed for lunch. We cooked the steaks on the grill, seasoning them up and then made shrimp with garlic butter and a little seasoning. When everything was done we plated it all up and headed to the office so Isaiah and his Mercury could eat as well.
“Hey Rylee, when we get a chance let’s go out and do a shopping spree sometime. I mean if we’re going to be here then we might as well have some fun, right.” Ava asked, making me smile.
“Hell yeah, let's do it, but I think Mercury wants us to go with him tonight, so let’s see how this pans out. Hey Ava, you do know that Isaiah can change you, right? I mean only if you wanted him to, plus you would have to be near death for him to do it.” I said, hiding my smirk. I knew that I had just put it out there and it would make her have a lot of questions. I could see her thinking about it for a few minutes before she shook her head.
“I don’t think I’m ready for that right now, maybe later down the road, but not now. I just found out that I’m a werewolf’s mate and I never even knew that all this supernatural stuff was real. I mean I’ve read about it in books and saw TV shows and films, but I never thought it was actually real, so just give me some time to get used to all this. I’ll be alright.” Ava replied, making me chuckle.
“It’s okay, Ava, I’m not saying that you have to decide today or even tomorrow, but I bet that your wolf would be beautiful.” I said, trying to lighten the mood.
“Yeah, maybe, we’ll see what I decide when the time comes. Hey guys, come on, lunch is getting cold.” Ava said, changing the subject as we walked into the office. We put the plates down and Isaiah and Mercury quickly dug into their food.
