Chapter 28

updated Mercury’s P.O.V I mind-linked my children about the family dinner tonight on the way back to the car and when we got back to the pack house Isaiah was just pulling up the driveway with Ava. Druk and I walked inside and I was surprised to see Selena and Axel, Anna and William and Gabrielle and her mate Terry were sitting in the family room. I still had yet to have a proper conversation with him or even meet him properly yet, but that was all about to change, everything was about to change. “Thank you, old friend. I appreciate you coming here and knocking some sense into me and I’m even more thankful that you didn’t actually knock it into me.” I said, shaking Druk’s hand. “Any time, old friend, but be warned that next time I come I really will be knocking sense into you if you haven’t got your s**t together.” Druk replied, laughing as I shook my head. Natalie came downstairs with hers and Druk’s bags, which Druk quickly took from her and gave her an annoyed look that she was carrying them to which she just rolled her eyes at him, which made me laugh. She reacted just like Cheyenne would have done if I did that to her. “Goodbye, Mercury, take care and look after your family.” Natalie said, hugging me. “I will, I promise. Thank you both for coming and I will see you both soon.” I replied, smiling. I walked them both to the front door and watched as they left before I turned and went back to the family room where my family was waiting patiently for me. I could hear them talking and laughing as I approached and it warmed my heart to hear them like that. I walked in and sat down in my usual seat, but when I looked around I saw that Ava wasn’t here, which made me look at Isaiah. “She’s upstairs resting after a long shift at the club.” Isaiah replied, without me having to ask. I was glad that she wasn’t here just now as it would make it easier to talk freely with my family. I sat there and looked at each of my kids as they smiled at me and each other. “Listen guys, I’m sorry for how distant I have been. Ever since your mother died I have been out of it for a while and I promise that I am trying to get my s**t together, but I miss her so much and I know that you all do as well. Gabrielle, I know that I said I would talk to your mate and I know that I haven’t kept that promise, I’m sorry. I haven’t paid attention to you and you look so much like your mother, you even have her attitude and I am very proud of you. Anna, Selena, Isaiah, I’m also sorry for the way I have acted these last few months and for not being there for each of you the way I should have been. I am so proud of all of you and your mates, even though I still have to have a talk with two of them, but from now on the asshole is back, but the loving father is back even more so.” I said, hoping that my children could and would forgive me for my absence these past few days. Selena and Anna stood up and walked over to me, so I stood up to face whatever they were going to say to me. They both threw their arms around me and hugged me tightly and then Gabrielle and Isaiah did the same. I hugged them all tightly, grateful to have my kids in my arms. It was like the family was stronger than ever after this. I had my children and they had me as well as their mates and their own children, my grandchildren. “ISAIAH!!! ISAIAH, WE NEED TO GET TO THE CLUB NOW!!! IT'S ON FIRE!!!” Ava screamed as she came running down the stairs and into the family room. “Wait, what? What happened?” Isaiah asked, just as confused as the rest of us. “Cath just called me and told me that there was a huge explosion.” Ava replied, worried. Isaiah immediately looked at me and then I hurried to get my keys out of my pocket. “Come on, we’ll take my SUV.” I said, hurrying out the family room to the front door of the pack house. Everyone followed behind me and piled into the SUV, before speeding off the territory and going straight to Ava’s club. I saw smoke in the rearview mirror as we were driving, but I didn’t pay any attention to it as my main focus was getting to the club. When we arrived there were three huge red fire trucks and the firemen were trying their hardest to get the fire put out, but were struggling. “Who would do this to my club? I don’t have any enemies. This is f*****g bullshit.” Ava said, pissed off. Isaiah tried to calm her down by placing his hand on the small of her back, which seemed to be working until we heard one of the firemen talking out loud to another. “We got a call that someone's house is on fire, so I need one of the trucks to go there.” The fireman said and some of the guys jumped into one of the trucks and sped off with the siren blaring. “Who the f**k would do this? I haven’t done anything to anyone. f**k it, I’ll just rebuild the damn thing and the club will be even better, with a better name.” Ava mumbled to herself, looking at the damage the fire had caused to the outside of the building, but I heard what she said and I would make sure she had all the help she needed to rebuild. She was Isaiah’s mate and soon she would be a part of our family, so she would have all the help she needed and maybe some that she wouldn’t know about too. After the fire was completely put out the chief told us that we could do a walk through to see what was left and how much damage had been done. We walked through the burnt floor and everything was completely ruined, there was no saving anything at all. Ava sighed as she picked up a photo, so I walked over to her and saw it was a dollar, which confused me. “This was the first dollar that I made in this club, but it's just as damaged as the rest.” Ava said, sighing as she went to put it back down on the floor. “Keep it and place it on the wall of your new place when it's rebuilt.” I replied, stopping her from setting it down. “Mercury, Isaiah, you need to get up here fast, Ava’s house is on fire. The fire truck just got here a few minutes ago and they are trying to put it out now.” Spike said, mind-linking both of us. “s**t, f**k, are you serious? We’ll be there soon, on our way now.” I replied and ended the link. I looked at Isaiah and honestly had no idea how he was going to explain this one to Ava, especially why first her club and now her home had been torched.
