Chapter 16 getting the girl out safe

Updated  Mercury’s P.O.V   I waited for more than ten minutes and the whole time I was trying to use my wolf hearing to hear anything that was going on inside the house or even how many people were inside, but the whole time my wolf Asher kept whimpering in my head. This had been the first time I had heard from him since we sent Cheyenne off and it seriously worried me that he was whimpering.   “Asher, what’s wrong, buddy?” I asked, talking to my wolf.   “Mercury, you need to get in there now. Go, get in there now.” Asher replied, trying to come forward.   “Alright, calm down, we’re going in there now.” I said, trying to push him back. Whatever was going on with him had him on edge and it had something to do with whatever was inside that house. We got out of the cars and spread out, with Hawk and Spike going round the back, while Axel and William came to the front with me and Goldie hung back, waiting for my signal. I hurried to the door and without any hesitation I kicked it as hard as I could, knocking it off its hinges and running inside. I got into the doorway of the living room and stopped dead in my tracks, shocked with what I was seeing. The guy I had been after, Ranger, was kneeling in the middle of the room, pouring ice over a woman, who I am guessing is his dead wife, but she wasn’t moving. She was dead and from the glazed over look on her face you could tell that she had been dead for some time. He was trying to keep the smell from rising up, but it wasn’t working, it was just making it worse because the ice was melting. The scene in front of me was horrible, something I had never seen before and never wanted to see again. I heard Goldie come in behind me and gasp when she saw what was going on.   “Goldie, go upstairs and see if you can find the daughter anywhere. Go now.” I said and listened as she ran away from the living room and up the stairs.   Goldie’s P.O.V   I ran upstairs as fast as I could and I could tell this house was old because the stairs felt like they were caving in with every step I took. I began going from room to room, searching for the daughter that Mercury had told us about and every door was easy enough to kick down, but there was no one in any of the rooms I checked until I came to the last door. I turned the handle and found that it was locked from the outside, but not for long as I kicked it hard enough to knock the door down with the lock breaking the door frame. The room was pitch black inside, but thankfully I had my flashlight with me, so I quickly turned it on and looked around the room. The light landed on something that was in the corner, but I couldn’t make out what it was, so I felt along the wall for a switch and once I found it I flicked it on. The light came on and I saw the young woman in the corner, so I slowly and carefully walked towards her. I couldn’t see her face, but I could see her back and it was a mess of bruises, scratches, cuts, grazes and old scars. I was in shock with what I was seeing, but then I noticed that she was barely moving, so I hurried over to her and kneeled down beside her. As soon as I was near her she turned around slightly and faced me, letting me see just how badly bruised her face was.    “Are you here to hurt me too?” She asked and I was stunned. I moved her matted, dirty hair out of her face and shook my head no. I looked around the room for a blanket or something, anything to cover her up.   “No sweetheart, I’m here to get you the hell out of here and take you somewhere safe.” I replied, finding a sheet that would do for right now.   “Can you stand?” I asked and she nodded. She slowly managed to get up, struggling a little, but once she was on her feet I put the sheet over her, making sure she was completely covered and that no part of her body was on show. I slowly walked downstairs, taking each step as as carefully as I could, but when we got to the bottom of the stairs Mercury took one look at her face and growled.    “Get her out of here now. I don’t want her seeing what I am about to do.” Mercury said and I nodded. She was so underfed that I could have quite easily picked her up, but she was also badly injured and I didn’t want to risk hurting her any further by doing so.    “Mercury, give me some time, she’s injured and can’t move fast, so just hold fire until I get her out the front door and then you can do what you like.” I said, mind-linking him and he nodded. I was shocked to see his face softened when he looked at her, but then it turned angry again as the light hit her face and the bruising became more apparent. I managed to get her out the front door, still holding her up and walked her to my car, helping her inside and then closed the door.   “Make that bastard pay for what he has done to her.” I growled out, mind-linking Mercury and then ended the link. I got into the car and sped off, but I could smell the scent of many other wolves on her, which could only mean one thing when added together with her injuries. That son of a b***h was selling her to wolves. I looked over at her and she was shivering, so I turned the heating up in the car.   “Don’t worry, I’m going to get you somewhere safe. Nothing will ever hurt you again, I promise. Did they...hurt you, I mean did they….” I asked, hoping she knew what I meant so that I didn’t have to say those hateful words and thankfully she shook her head no.    “They...they used me for bait, told me if I won they would set me free, but they never did.” She replied, hugging the sheet closer to her.   Mercury’s P.O.V   I had this bastard by the throat, dangling him off the floor and all I wanted to do was kill him, especially after seeing how beat up the young woman was.   “WHERE THE f**k IS MY MONEY, RANGER?!!! WHAT THE f**k DID YOU DO TO THAT GIRL?!!! SHE’S YOUR f*****g DAUGHTER FOR CHRIST SAKE!!!!” I shouted, but all he did was smirk at me.   “What do you think you son of a b***h, your money is over there on the counter, plus more. Now let me down. I knew you were following me from the store, who the hell drives blacked out SUVs in this f*****g neighbourhood?” Ranger replied, as Isaiah walked over to the counter and began counting the money. I looked at him and he nodded, letting me know the money was all there, but then I heard a bang and turned to see that Isaiah had knocked the photo that was hanging there off the wall.   “I see you're hiding things from my dad now, guys search everywhere.” Isaiah said and everyone started ransacking the place, looking to see what else they could find. I still had Ranger by the throat and after a few minutes the others came back with everything they had found. Isaiah looked through it all, showing me what was there and I was disgusted. There were drugs, the rest of the money, s*x tapes and there were even tapes where he had used his own daughter as bait to be hunted.   “Destroy it all.” I ordered and they immediately nodded, as they set fire to it.   “YOU MOTHER FUCKER!! I CAN JUST MAKE MORE YOU SON OF A b***h!!!” Ranger shouted and then started laughing.   “Not if your f*****g dead, you can’t.” I replied, pulling him so that he was eye to eye with me.   “Did you really think I was going to let you live after this? After seeing what you did to her? I don’t think so.” I said, grabbing onto his head and ripping it from his shoulders. I tossed his head next to his dead wife and nodded for Hawk to do his thing. Spike grabbed the money and put it all into a bag, while we poured gas all over the place. I waited for everyone to be out of the house, then lit a match and tossed it back into the house, letting the fire spread. This house was really old, so it would burn down really fast, I thought as we all went back to the cars. I used my wolf hearing to listen out for sirens, but then I heard the neighbours talking.   “It's about time someone killed that nasty fucker.” I heard one of the neighbours say to another as we got back into the car, but thankfully we were out of sight when they came outside. I couldn’t believe what we found in that house and what he had done to her, his own daughter, but the way he used her as bait reminded me of when Cheyenne was set on fire and Anna was taken and hunted, which only made me even more pissed off.
