Chapter Sixty-Three

1103 Words

Betty POV It was embarrassing, having to tell Malcolm I needed to pee. But he should be aware of why I had broken away from the caravan; I found a tree further up the trail dismounted and dropped my pants. I could hear the caravan heading closer and knew soon those at the front would know why I had taken off. Pulling up my pants and climbing up on Nelly before Malcolm reached me, I guided Nelly back to be next to Enzo. He smiled at me but did not say a word. I guess that last drink before we left was one too many, for me at least. The caravan slowed to a trot, giving the horses a chance to catch their breath before the pace. It picked up again. Looking at the sky, it was clear and getting warmer as we reached lunchtime. I was grateful we would be stopping by some trees and a small pond.
