“Wh-what?” Abby mumbled out and I tried desperately to grasp the fact that my mother had just told us that we are both mermaids. It wasn’t just me and although I felt like I should deny it and run away, I was far more curious about everything.
“Well, many years ago, we lived deep in the ocean in a place called Coral Palace,” my mother said. I recognized the name and that’s when I knew that everything Crystal had said was true. The book and everything else was real. We listened closely as my mother and Michelle took turns in telling us about their lives under the sea. It was both magical and horrifying. I wasn’t human. I may look, talk, and act human, but the fact is I am a mermaid. I glanced over at Abby and smiled. She is one too.
