Chapter 3

Alexandro's POV I knew she was going to try again. From the moment she tried after failing the first, I had a feeling she would go for it again, and this time I was prepared. The first it happened, I felt strange but ignored it. The same went for the second, but I was more aware of it. I caught a glimpse of her, but she was gone before I could blink. This time, I was more prepared for her attack. I knew she was around. I didn't know where, but it didn't take long after the gun was shot. As expected, she didn't run off quickly and remained on the roof. I watched her for a moment as she looked at where I stood, disappointed that I was not there. But the moment she turned around, she looked shocked and scared. Though it all disappeared in an instant as she smiled. More like she was not scared moments ago. “You found me out, didn't you?” she said, amusement in her voice. “You aren't as stealth as you think,” I said and took a step forward. “I'm guessing you are the serial killer in the city,” I said, squinting my eyes. No one knew who this serial killer was for five years, but I have my reasons to suspect she was the one. She shrugged. “I am not a serial kill,” she sounded offended. “You are,” I said matter-of-factly. “For a man who I just shot at, you are brave to stand before me. Aren't you scared I'll do it once again?” she asked, this time curious. Scared? No. She could not kill me even if she wanted to, but I wanted to see her face. My heart and body were restless. The pull I felt on her was suffocating, and I hated it. She was a f*****g human! I should not feel this way for a human, but I could not stop myself from wanting to know what she looked like. I didn't mind she wanted to kill me seconds ago. What mattered right now was who she was and why I was feeling this way with her? “Take off your mask,” I ordered. Something flashed in her eyes and she raised the gun and shot at me once again. I moved away before it could get into me. My gaze on her was filled with rage. That nudging feeling inside of me was there. But how dare she try to kill me again?! I could snap her head off her neck if I deem it fit. “Do not make me upset. Take off your mask!” I ordered. This time, trying to compel her to do it. “Mr. Alexandro, the question you are to ask is who had sent me for the job not trying to get my identity,” she said, not a hint of fear in her eyes. She was bold. Not sure if it was mixed with stupidity, or she was just brave. “You have no idea whom I am, do you?” I asked. She sighed, rubbing her temples in an almost insulting way. “I don't care what you are,” she simply stated, waving her hands and staring at me like I disgusted her. I took another step forward, and she took a seat on the railing of the roof. “Do not take any more steps further, Mr. Alexandro” she ordered. Like a quick command, I halted. My body seemed like a foreign object to me as I stared at the lady before me. All I could see were her eyes. Eyes that bore into me with anger and irritation. It wasn't because she tried to kill me moments ago and failed. It had something else. And I wasn't sure what it was or why? “Who sent you to kill me?” I asked. She scoffed, rising. “You head such a great company, yet you are this stupid. I should have known. I'm guessing vampires use their connections more than their brains if they have any,” she said. Something snapped inside of me. Did she just insult me? I matched forward, and she jumped down the roof. My heart dropped, and my eyes widened as I rushed to the edge. Why would she do something that stupid? But when I looked down, she was not there, though her headkerchief was. I rushed down and signalled my guard to come over to where I stood. “Get this scanned for any DNA. I need to know who she is”. *** Annabelle's POV “I asked you to carry out a simple task and yet again, you failed. Don't you dare push me, or I'll end your life. Get him killed!” the man yelled on the phone. I said nothing as the call ended. This was all I've been told for the past two days since I failed for the third time to get rid of that insolent vampire. This was not my first kill. Frankly, I have eliminated ten of them in the last three months, but Alexandro has made things difficult for me. Fortunately, I could leave before things escalated. With no bullets and two failed attempts in one day, I could only imagine what he would do. Though, I was surprised he did not act fast. If I was in his shoes, killing who tried to end my life would be the main priority. Not asking to see my face. Tonight, no killings would be happening. And so I decided to take a walk at 2 am. Why? My house right now was suffocating, thanks to my dear mother and her incessant crying. Secondly, I needed a better plan to kill Alexandro. Aside from the snow, everything else was perfect in the night. I could hear my steps and there was no one to stare at me like I was strange. Even with my contacts and my hair change, most people haven't stopped with their weird looks my way. I took a corner and stopped, my hands sealed in my jacket's pockets. My gaze locked on the vampire I had failed to eliminate. For a moment, I said nothing. He should not recognize me. I had on a mask. I tried to walk off, but he blocked my path, standing inches close to me. “Thought you could hide from me, firefly?” he asked, amusement in his tone. How I wish I were with my dagger right now? Yet again, I would not want to leave my prints on him. I've had enough of the police suspecting me. Any more flops and I could be jailed. “I'm close enough now. Kill me then,” he teased, holding my chin. “I have-” “Don't lie,” he growled. “I know who you are, Annabelle” My eyes widened, but I quickly put my expressions in check. He bent over my shoulder. “You aren't a serial killer, are you? You are an assassin,” he pointed out in a whisper before standing erect, a small smile playing on his lips. I took a step back. “What now? Report me?” He shook his head, closing the gap between us. “No, but I'll make you a deal. Try to kill me in one week and if you fail, you'll do anything I ask”. Before I could say a word, he was gone.
