CHAPTER 17 ELIK Impulsiveness was never among my traits, but next to Klaud, I did nothing but be impulsive. I couldn’t resist dissecting the different emotions swirling in her head. I couldn't place--why? I heaved a deep sigh. It was not entirely true that I couldn't place Klaud. I knew deep inside me that something was budding, but—I was afraid to think deeper, and my conscience couldn’t take her into a world without certainty and security. I couldn't and wouldn't do that to anyone, most of all to her. I knew her life was mapped out; she revealed it somehow during the interview. I knew every moment with Klaud defied logic, and nothing about my feelings for her made sense.
