CHAPTER TEN After the chilly draftiness of the station platform, Stella felt relieved to walk into the warm interview room at the New Haven police precinct. She felt even more relieved that their prime suspect was seated at the table. His baseball cap had been removed to reveal a mop of unruly hair that still had traces of gel in it. His hands were cuffed behind him. “I didn’t do it,” he gabbled, as soon as Stella and Maxwell entered the room. “Didn’t do what?” Maxwell asked cynically. Stella took a seat opposite the guilty-looking man. Maxwell stood with his arms folded, glaring intimidatingly down at him. “I didn’t steal it. I know why you’ve brought me in.
