CHAPTER NINE Stella ran into the New Haven Union Station’s historic building feeling breathless with tension. So much was riding on her hunch that Donny had fled by train. This was make or break. What happened in the next few minutes could affect the entire outcome of this case. Inside the high-roofed interior, she slowed for a moment, taking stock of her surroundings, hoping that by a miracle she might see Donny immediately. The station was bigger and busier than she’d expected. Donny’s apartment complex might have been on the wrong side of the tracks, but this enormous and stately building was all the way on the right side. Ranks of polished wooden benches were positioned down the center of the large building. Here, commuters were sitting and waiting for trains. The wintry light glowe
