Chapter 3 GWEN'S POV As I stood in front of the mirror, excitement coursed through my veins. Tonight was the night, the banquet where I would finally catch the attention of Alpha Ballister. I wanted him to see me for who I truly was – alluring, confident, and irresistible. I wore a skimpy black dress that clung to my curves like a second skin, leaving little to the imagination. Its low neckline showcased my ample cleavage, while the high slit on the side hinted at the irresistible leg that lay beneath. I brushed my hair in soft waves, letting it cascade down my shoulders, and applied a seductive shade of red lipstick to my pouty lips. Confident and determined, I entered the banquet hall, making sure to walk with an exaggerated sway in my hips. My eyes scanned the room for Alpha Ballister, eager to catch his gaze. I spotted him standing across the room, conversing with a group of businessmen. My heart skipped a beat, anticipation building within me. As I made my way toward him, I tried to catch his attention – subtly at first. I brushed against his arm as I walked past, offering a coy smile. "Alpha Ballister," I purred, "What a pleasure to see you here tonight." He glanced at me briefly, his expression polite but distant. "Ah, Gwen," he replied, his voice lacking any hint of interest. "Yes, a pleasure indeed." And just like that, he turned his attention back to his companions. Disappointed, my determination only grew stronger. I couldn't let this setback deter me. I placed my hand on his forearm, leaning in closer to him. "You know, Alpha Ballister, rumors say that a strong, powerful man like yourself is never one to back down from a challenge," I said, a sultry smile playing on my lips. "I do love a challenge." He looked at me, his gaze momentarily betraying a flicker of curiosity. But then, his eyes shifted, searching the room behind me. My heart sank as I realized that he wasn't interested in me at all – he was looking for someone else. A surge of anger filled me, boiling within like an untamed fire when I thought of the fact that he might be looking for that servant 'Looking for that little mouse, Edith, aren't you? Always the innocent one, stealing everyone's attention. Well, I won't let her have you. Not while I am alive.' I thought to myself. Alpha Ballister's gaze snapped back to me, a flicker of surprise crossing his face. "Gwen, what are you talking about?" he asked, his voice laced with confusion. But I was more confused. I hadn't said anything out loud, they were… They were just my thoughts. How did he do it? Were the stories true? That he had special powers? "Maybe? Maybe not." He responded to the question in my mind and I knew for a fact it wasn't a lie. It made me want him more. Imagine the respect I'd gain being his queen. People would worship me. His brows furrowed, his hand gently freeing itself from my grasp. "So her name is Edith huh?" His words hit me like a slap in the face. I had built my hopes up, and adorned myself in this seductive attire, all for naught. The realization that Alpha Ballister wasn't interested in me crushed me, leaving behind a bitter taste of rejection. Desperation seeped into my veins, clouding my judgment. I reached out, my hand grazing his arm once more. "You don't need her, Alpha Ballister. She's just a servant and has nothing to offer you. Look at me, I can offer you so much more. All I ask is a chance to prove myself." I looked up at him and his expression said nothing. There was nothing there except, well, rejection. He's rejecting me because of that wench? His rejection only fueled my anger further. The thought of Edith winning him over, of her stealing his heart, ignited a fiery rage within me. I couldn't let her have him, not without a fight. "I reject every woman, Gwen. You're no exception." In a last-ditch effort to regain his attention, I stepped closer to him, my voice a desperate plea. "Please, Alpha Ballister, just give me a chance. Forget about her, forget about everything else. It's me that you need, that you want." But even as the words escaped my lips, I could see he remained unmoved. His gaze drifted once more, searching for Edith amidst the crowd. The realization hit me hard – it was futile. I couldn't force someone to feel something they didn't. An overwhelming mix of disappointment, anger, and heartache consumed me. I had put everything into this, laid bare my vulnerability, only to be dismissed. My eyes burned with unshed tears, but I refused to let them fall. I walked away from him. I brought out my phone and dialed a number. "Get rid of her. TONIGHT!" I wouldn't give up just yet but first, I need to eliminate the obstacle. ALPHA BALLISTER’S POV The banquet was a whirlwind of noise and meaningless conversation. My mind wandered, uninterested in the festivities happening around me. I couldn't focus on business matters, or on the discussions that were taking place. My only thought was her. Where was she? Why hadn't I seen her yet? Anxiety began to bubble within me as I scanned the room, desperately searching for a familiar face, a certain presence that would put me at ease. My wolf howled inside me, restless and excited. He wanted a chance to talk to her, to be filled with her scent but then she had escaped me earlier and now he was restless and more anxious than before. Mine. The word echoed in my mind, my wolf screaming with joy. This is the woman who would hold the key to my heart yet the woman who would put a dent in my name. The woman with the power to end my regime and destroy all I've ever worked for. SHE IS MY ENEMY.
