There was hesitation. Almost as if Aeolian tried to decide whether to punish the wolf questioning him or let it slide. After all it was no ordinary wolf, it was his beta, one he trusted with his life. A short scoff was heard as the pitch black wolf took his decision, turned around and headed for the stairs. When his gaze lifted he found the platinum haired woman staring at him in silence, her face hard to read and her gaze cold and distant. His heart skipped a beat, but he did not show it. His eyes narrowed as he took a few steps upwards towards the woman, but she turned on her heels and walked away silent.
The wolf rolled his eyes and took another look at the blond man standing in the living room.
I will see you tomorrow. I expect you fix the door as well by tomorrow night. the alpha ordered without holding back or showing off any sort of emotion or forgiveness.
Aaron bowed his head lightly. He knew there was nothing he could do, but wait and let Aeolian come to terms with what just happened. With one last look, Aeolian walked upstairs, shifting back to his human form with every step he took, reaching in the bedroom as his human self. Since Elanor was in the shower, he took a seat on the edge of the bed, resting his elbows on his knees. A long sigh escaped his lips, before he fell backwards, sinking into the messy sheets. Truth is, he had never forgotten about he pack and rules, about the traditions and their way of living. But he could not deny his heart what it wanted, needed, desired.
When the water stopped pouring, the woman stepped out and dried herself absently. She didn't even know what she felt. She was already tired, lacking proper nutrition and a specific diet, always kept her on the edge. Would she be able to hold herself back from digging back into her old life now that she felt the true lack of power and energy? For a moment she allowed herself to drift into a scene where life was just as easy as she wished it to be. She did not miss hunting, she did not miss anything, but the taste, the energy she had after each meal.
Elanor was pulled out of her dreamy state, when she heard the bed creak. Seemed like Aeolian did not leave. Did he want to talk to her? Maybe. Did she want to talk to him? Not really. she did not know what to tell him anyway. She already told him everything for tonight. Any more words would be useless right now, just heavy for his soul and mind that were already troubled.
Since the bathrobe was stained, she wrapped around herself the towel she used to dry herself just earlier before she walked out.
To the sound of her footsteps, Aeolian turned his head towards her, opening his eyes to watch her. He wondered if she needed comfort or if she needed space? Was she angry with him? A low frustrated growl echoed into his whole being, the frustration of not knowing how to read her.
“Come here, will you?” The man spoke, his voice low and demanding, his arms opening to welcome her.
Elanor turned her head towards him, a cold shiver running down her spine, a soft tug pulling at her chest for her to obey his voice. Brow furrowed in confusion and discomfort.
“Tsk.” she scowled “ If you need me, I’ll be downstairs.” and with that, she hurriedly walked away, rushing down to the kitchen to grab another small blood pack.
Focusing on anything else but the wave of frustration she felt coming from him, Elanor stabbed the plastic bag with a straw and started to drink silently. Cow blood was tasteless. Actually it was worse. It had a rather sour taste. Unlike most humans, animals know when they are about to die. And that spoils the meat, the blood, the pelt, everything. No one ever tasted a good piece of steak, unspoiled by fear.
Alone and frustrated, Aeolian turned on his side, facing the balcony door, after pulling the blanket to cover himself.
You’re afraid. the wolf inside his head spoke. Aeolian did not reply. I am a little afraid. and with that the wolf went silent again, letting Aeolian deal with his thoughts by himself.
When Elanor crawled back in bed, the sun was slowly rising. Aeolian seemed to be asleep, to her relief. She felt guilty for leaving him alone like that, so she crawled close to him, her fingers moving in his hair stroking his scalp slowly in circular motion to soothe his worried mind. The man inhaled deeply, eyes opening for half, turning to look at her.
Her eyes were calm and serene, big like those of a doe. A soft smile crept on his lips as he turned to embrace her again. “You are safe.” he whispered as she made herself more comfortable in his arms.
