Chapter 5: One Cocky Beta

I received daisies for the next few days but no sign of Nathan. I decided to go to school for the rest of the week but Nathan wasn’t there either. It was Friday night now and I was perched on my bed playing with a butterfly knife and watching Friends on TV.

I jump slightly at the knock coming from my window, my room is on the second story so whoever it was must’ve climbed up. Walking over to the window I warily opened it to reveal a smiling Nathan hanging from the railing and standing on the edge.

“Can I help you‘ I asked ignoring the fact that he had skailed my house. “Yes actually. This whole ‘giving you space’ is really hard for me but I did it so, what are the odds that you go see a movie with me tonight?” He asked sheepishly

“Mmmm no” making the smile fall from his face. “What? Why not” he asked his voice with a slight wine. “I want to get to know you as a person not just a mate, and a movie is a date type activity. Think of something we could do that just two wolves would do?” I questioned holding back a smile at his adorable thinking face.

“We could go on a run. Well we could run our wolves. Just an Alpha showing the new member around the land” he offered making my head shake. “You just want to get me vulnerable knowing Snow will jump your bones at any chance she gets’’ I countered making him laugh. “I actually didn’t think about that but I am now‘ he joked making me laugh and shove him forgetting he was two stories up.

“s**t sorry’ I apologize grabbing his arm to stabilize him. “Ok what if I invite my beta. You want to be a warrior, which I may begin to start thinking about one day, so it will just be me introducing you to my warrior leader” He countered completely ignoring the fact that I almost killed him moments ago.

“Fine but there is something I should tell you first‘ I started, “don’t tell me you have a third n****e” he joked make my head shake with a chuckle. “No, I’m a half shifter” I finished. Basically I can shift in and out of my wolf form with my clothing still intact. Nothing special just rare, in fact in the earlier days of our existence half shifters were shunned by packs either killed or abandoned but foolish traditions like this haven’t existed in millenniums.

“That’s wicked cool’ he answered making me shrug “I guess you won’t be able to see me n***d tonight” i joked making him mock frown and jump the two stories down, show off. “Meet me by the woods in five minutes. I’ll link my beta” he called before running around the house. I quickly changed into some running shorts and hurried outside seeing Nathan at the edge of the woods his shirt already missing.

“So you must be the new member who wants to be a warrior” a cocky voice came from behind me. “Well you can’t expect me to actually believe that you are a fighter I mean come on” he continued almost moving into my line of vision and setting his hand on my shoulder. I stepped forward slightly grabbing his hand and flipping the beta over my body firmly placing my foot on his neck as he landed.

“First of all lose the attitude, second of all don’t touch me‘ I barked smirking at Nathan‘s laughter. “Damn she can kick your a*s‘ he teased holding out his hand to help him up. “Well” He started brushing some dirt off of himself “I’m gonna shift so unless you want to fall madly in love with me I suggest you turn around” his confidence quickly returning getting a scoff from Nathan and I as we both turned.

“That’s Blane, quite the character huh?” Nathan asked making me nod, leaves ruffling behind us made us turn to see a quite large brown wolf. Alphas and Luna, Luna’s color changing after the mating bond ritual, tended to have black fur. Beta’s had brown typical wolves a light tan and Omega‘s a red.

Blane ran off towards the woods leaving Nathan and I alone, “You mind if I change here” Nathan asked making me nod. “Very much so yes” I replied quickly shifting seeing the shock across his face. Half-shifters aren’t only unique in the fact that they can shift with their clothes on but their pure white fur.

“Beautiful” he whispered a wolfish smile crossing my face as I jogged into the woods after Blaine. Nathan caught up with us moments later his wolf towering a good foot over ours as we ran deeper into the woods. We raced fiercely Nathan predominantly in the lead because of his Alpha stature not realizing that we had cross pack lines. Loud growls made us stop abruptly seeing a large pack of rouges surround the three of us. Blaine and Nathan bowed in a defensive stances while I shifted back into my human form.

I preferred fighting in my human form thought that my wolf had too many areas to attack with our size. Snow typically took over fighting though, her animal instincts helpful as we fought. I only had my butterfly knife on me from earlier but it would have to do. There was eight wolves surrounding us all jumping at once Nathan quickly catching one by his throat throwing him into a tree and snapping his spine.

I slide under the fighting meeting the wolves from the back easily dragging the blade across a she-wolves carotid leaving her to bleed out. I looked over seeing Blaine hovering over two dead wolves before attacking another. My arms hooked around another wolf using my strength to snap his neck forcefully feeling a sharp pain at my side.

I breathed out heavily looking at the 8 dead wolves and Nathan and Blane who were bleeding in front of me. Large wolves ran up around me their scent indicating they were from our pack and hurried Blane and Nathan off one throwing me over on her back and running me back towards the pack house. Well that was exciting.
