Exams were around the corner and Natalie knew that she had to really study hard to get the good grades that she had always wanted. Her relationship with Tony almost made her lose her scholarship but finally she is back to her feet. She had done her best in the subsequent exams and this end term semester exam is no exception. Her relationship with Elijah was flourishing, it had just been three days since he proposed to her and she said a big yes without hesitation. This came as a shocker for most of her friends, especially her best friend Sasha, who is also her roommate, but honestly she did not care. She knew Elijah more than anyone else. They were soulmates. From day one, he knew the right things to say to her, he kissed her like she had never been kissed before and most importantly, he saw her in a way that no one had ever seen her before. Their relationship was clearly meant to be. Right now, she believes that they must have been lovers in their past lives. There is no way that three months into their relationship feels like they have known each other forever. For instance, he completed her sentences and vice versa. He treated her right and this includes the tiniest bits of things like opening a coke bottle for her. She had it all with him. Admiring her promise ring which was in her ring finger, Natalie proceeded to the library. Even if Elijah was still a student, he went out of his way to get her a diamond ring. Of course he had supportive parents and a brother but he used almost all of his savings to make her happy. The diamond ring cost him an arm and a leg. Honestly, his dedication and the love he has shown her is what makes her fall in love with him even more. Natalie walked into the library. It was at 8:00pm in the night so she was among the few students on campus who were in the library. This clearly shows her dedication. This is New light Collage and probably half of the school is out partying. It's expected, now that it's a Friday night but she didn't have that luxury. She had a troubled childhood that if her education flops then she would not result in anything. She needed good graders and her degree to succeed in life and to change her destiny. Of course people turn their heads when they see her walking in. It's expected. She hates this kind of attention, but maybe she should get used to it. She is pretty, it's not a bad thing as Tony used to tell her. She is beautiful. Her lips are pretty, her smile is breathtaking and she has a banging body. She is one of those girls you cannot stop staring at when they walk into a room because of their beauty. Tony, her ex-boyfriend loved her for the attention he got when he was with her but not Elijah. Of course he acknowledges her beauty from time to time but this is deeper. He sees her the way she wants to be seen. She wants to be seen as this smart intelligent woman with a kind heart and that is exactly how he saw her. Elijah is a sapiosexual, he is intelligent too and this made her drawn to him like a moth to a flame. Elijah helped her leave her toxic relationship with Tony which had been an on and off thing for years.Before Elijah, she didn't see Tony's controllingness and emotional torture as abuse. She was willing to be in the relationship hoping that one day he was going to change and love her the way she wanted to be loved but that did not end up happening. He still took her for granted. She would travel all the way to see him since he is on a different campus in a different city but sometimes, the man who claimed that he loved her more than anything else in the world, did not show up. He ignored her, dismissed her and this really messed up with her confidence and self esteem. But, thanks to Elijah, she knows her worth. She is slowly gaining her self esteem and confidence back. Not only that, now she knows what it means to be truly loved and cared for, courtesy of Elijah. To be honest, Elijah saved her life. She helped her heal, build her self esteem back and now she can confidently look at herself in the mirror and feel like she loves herself. That's not all, she feels like it was not her fault that she was stuck in a toxic relationship for way too long. Enough about Tony, she needs to study. Natalie pulled out her Anatomy book and her sticky notes. She had a hard time understanding the parts of the brain and she figured that maybe she should start by reading that. She started reading but ten minutes in, her other friend Hilder come in looking for her and she was relieved to see her. “ Nate,have been looking for you,” Hilder said, sighing heavily. “ Why? “ Natalie asked. She was pissed at this point. She really wanted to study but with Hilder being here, she is not going to be able to do it. “ We need to go now,” Hilder said. Her voice had this sort of urgency that made Natalie think about what she had requested. “ Hilder, I honestly don't know why you are asking me to leave the library.We talked about this. I told you that when I am studying I really don't need distractions. Why don't you get it, huh? Have you forgotten that I was raised in a foster home and education is the only thing that can make my life better,” Natalie decided to give her a reality check. Tonight, she had decided to focus on the things that matter and the last thing she wanted was for someone including Hilder to make her lose her focus. She is her friend and she should really understand her and where she is coming from. “ Trust me, if it was important I would not be here,” Hilder said. “ You know what, I have had enough of this back and forth. Tell me what this is all about,’’ Natalie said through gritted teeth. She was careful not to make noise because the librarian will not only punish them but also kick them out of the library. “ It's about Elijah,” Hilder mentioned and immediately Natalie's heart skipped a mighty beat. “ What do you mean? Elijah is at home. He is waiting for his brother who is abroad to arrive. He has not seen him for a while otherwise we would be studying together. So what do you mean?” She asked with a shaky voice. She couldn't hide the fear that was written all over her eyes. For some reason, she was shaking. It felt as if her gut feeling was warning her about something. “ Elijah lied to you. He is not at home. He is cheating on you with your best friend Sasha. They are in the hostel as we speak. You can go and see for yourself. You are my friend and telling you this is looking out for you. You don't deserve to be treated like crap. You deserve better, not a man who cheats on you with your best friend. I don't want him to hurt you the way Tony did. You don't deserve that,” Hilder dropped the bombshell.
