Chapter 4

The banquet of the Elite. No matter how many times I have attended this event, I really can't get used to it. Those sparkling chandeliers and lights, plus those expensive clothes worn by those people who come here to attend. "Ms. Winston," he called, and I looked at him. Everyone knows that Damien and I are getting married, and even if I don't want to talk with them, I had to do it for his sake. "Good evening, Mr. Morgan," I said, because part of being his fiancee is knowing those elite people. He actually didn't pressure me. I just don't like to be a burden to him. "You're lovely as always," he said and kissed my hand, "I'm sure you and Young Master Luceria will make a great couple," he said, and I smiled back. "Thank you," I said and tried my best to smile at him. The truth is... I'm still not sure whether to continue the wedding or not. I don't know if it was the impulse of my heart that I agreed to his proposal or because of the timing. He bid goodbye when he saw someone he needed to talk with. "Ladies and Gentlemen," the announcer said, and all of the attention was on the small stage. "We gathered here today for the annual presentation of the four great families..." he said and introduced them. First are the Cunninghams. They specialize in cars and other land transportation. Next is Mcville, the one who controls the guns and weapons. The Dominguez that controls the oils and fuels. And Luceria... the King of Technology. Those are their main businesses, but they have a real estate business. The four heirs stand at the top, while their successors are sitting in the corner. Damien was there, looking dashing as usual. He was especially cold today. I drank the wine that I got from the corner. No matter how hard I try to fit in... the presence they are giving me is too heavy. Thus, I realized one thing. That Damien and I are just not clicking. "Adelaide, there you are," he says. Those good looks of his are to die for. If there is a standard for a perfect face, he is whom people will think first. "Damien," I called him and he smiled at him. He looked so dashing that all the eyes of people here were on him. The way he walks... is just too elegant for me. "I've been looking for you since earlier," he said and checked me, "Are you enjoying yourself?" hell yeah, I enjoy myself to the point that I wanted to go and run away from this place. But I did not tell him that and gave him my half smile. "What about you? Your business here?" I asked him and he smiled at me before he kissed my cheek. "It's done," he said proudly, "Because I came personally, there is no deal that I won't be able to close," he proudly announced. "That's great," I said and looked around, "Maybe I'll just rest in the corner." "Are you not feeling well?" he asked me and I could see the concern in his eyes. "No, I'm just tired." I excused myself and got off. The truth is that I feel suffocated whenever people's eyes are on me. Although Damien is eye-catching, having Sebastian is fun. I miss him so much. Krrrng... It was an unknown number. I was contemplating whether to answer it or not. "Hello?" I asked but there was no sound coming from the other line. "Hello?" still, there was no response. I didn't waste any time and turned it off. I rested my head on the terrace and saw the beautiful city lights. "Greetings, Madam," a cold baritone called to me, he said. He was wearing a mask. This is not a masquerade party, so it's kinda weird. "Hi... Do I know you?" I asked him when he stared at me like I was a precious jewel he had known for a long time but seen it recently too. He moved forward and stood beside me. "No," he said and smiled at me, "I lost my way back at the party. Can you help me back?" he said, and I was taken aback. So that's how it is. So many things have been in my mind lately that I overthink things like that. "Oh," I said, "This way." While we are walking, I notice a walking pattern similar to someone I know. I don't know if I just miss him. I clenched my fist and stopped. "We are here," I said, while not looking at him. "Thank you," he said and gently handed me his business card, "If you ever need help in the future, call the number." "N-no, I don't---" "Take it, we don't know what the future holds," he said and smiled at me. "Bye bye," I was left there alone while looking at his silhouette. This is the entrance of the hotel. I sighed and put the calling card in my mind. Krrrrng... Baby Zeus. "Hello, baby?" my mood immediately lightened up when I saw my son calling me. "Mommy," he called in a sleepy voice, "What time are you going to come home?" he asked me, and I swear I would like to come home right that instant. "I'll be home later, but don't wait for me because you need to sleep early, okay?" I told him and he groaned. My little baby who looked so much like Sebastian. "Hmmmn alright," he said and I bet he was scratching his eyes right now, "Take care, mommy. I love you." "I love you too, baby. Good night." I said and turned off the phone when a huge man was behind my back... the famous troublemaker of the Dominguez. "G-Good evening, Sir Dominguez," I said, afraid that this would cause a conflict between him and Damien. But I didn't do anything. He walked towards me as if he saw a ghost. He grabbed my wrist and looked at me with a serious look on his face. "S-Sir!" I said and tried to take it back, but the more I tried to resist, the more he tightened it. "Adelaide," he called my name like he had been looking for me. And what's more... he knows my name!
