Part 6

Tylor let his eyes rake across the tiny dance floor they managed to create in the middle of the room. Actually, he did most of the work, but no one needs to know that. He took another sip of his drink. He doesn’t recognise anyone on the floor or in the room for that matter. The only thing he seemed interested was to know where any of his frat brothers went. He let out a sigh, resting his body against the wall behind him. He did not move an inch the entire time he's been at the party, and no one has caught his attention yet. The twenty-year-old was pretty bored even though he felt a giddy feeling running through his veins. Must be all that alcohol. Just then he caught the sight of a brunette head moving along in the crowd. He tilted his head, hoping it was his friend Michael in the group. But his face fell when it turned out to be someone else entirely. With a defeated expression, he slumped back. It’s his first frat party. Tylor helped it organise along with his other brothers from the fraternity. The organisation came easy to him, being the Secretary in high school and all. As it was the beginning of their second year of university and somehow, towards the beginning of their matches, they decided to start with a party. Then again, it wasn’t that bad. There were certain perks which are why when Michael told him about it, he was fully convinced into being a part of the fraternity. In the back of his mind, he thought about his impulse decision to move university. Maybe he shouldn’t have come to the same university Anna studied in. Tylor shook his head at the thought, trying not to think about his ex-girlfriend. Why was she a constant thought in his head? The reason he joined was for their excellent sports program and nothing else. The only downside to the entire thing was he has to see Anna every day in his class. It was too late to shift his subject. Besides one girl shouldn’t be affecting his studies. In that frustration, Tylor managed to down the rest of his drink before going to the kitchen in search of another beer. He’s already tipsy, and he’s been at the party for an hour or so, but there’s a nice buzz under his skin. It helped him forget about other things. It took him few minutes to shuffle into the kitchen with the few bodies pressed into the hallway. As he pulled a beer from the fridge, he noticed a huge keg rushed through their balcony window. Tylor shook his head at that. That was so much beer! But judging by the people filtering in through the door, he was sure it would be finished. He did not doubt it. Tylor walked out of the kitchen, giving them much needed space to set that up. As soon as he spotted Greg emerging out of the kitchen, Tylor tugged at his arm. He was the only one who looked sober and not growling at one another like a caveman. Tylor pushed himself off the wall and with the beer in his hand, navigated to the quiet side of the room. The soft side was the corner of the living room where the drunk boys weren’t trying to get rid of their clothes. Thoughtfully Tylor was starting to regret joining the frat, and it was his first week! “Greg” He sighed. Thankfully his friend seemed to hear him over the loud music and arched his brow, waiting to continue. “Where is your brother, Michael? I have been looking for him forever.” Greg twisted his lips, his eyes roaming around the room as if he didn’t believe Tylor. Tylor refrained from sighing. “Sorry bro, I don’t think he will be able to hang out with any of us. I heard that he invited his girl to the party tonight and she agreed. So I’m pretty sure he’s waiting outside the frat to appear decent, so she doesn’t run away from him” Greg cackled, the drink in his glass almost swishing at the movement. Tylor frowned at that. He did not even bother to hide that. “Wait, Michael has a girlfriend?” “Not yet but maybe by the end of the night, he will ask her out” Greg sighed. It’s not like Tylor doesn’t have other friends because he does know a few of them from the team. Other than those teammates he doesn’t know anyone else because it’s been like a week since he moved here. Most of his teammates are just drunk, and he did not want to mess up with whatever they are going for. “That’s sweet!” “Yeah” Greg breathed. Tylor thought about going back to the kitchen and moping around with few more drinks when he caught sight of Michael stepping through the door. He narrowed his eyes to stare at the girls trailing behind him when he noticed her. It felt like time stilled as she daintily walked inside, her eyes nervously looking around. Anna looked breathtaking in that black sequin dress, clinging to her body like a second skin. He noticed that most of them started noticing her too, their eyes drinking her long exposed legs. He made a face at that, slamming the bottle on the table with extra force than necessary as the thudding of a bass continued to go on around him. Greg sighed, oblivious to the expressions on Tylor's face, “There he is!” “Let’s go, say hi.” Tylor shook his head, an ugly feeling taking over him. It made his mouth twist when he noticed that Anna was standing a little too close to Michael. That’s when it clicked him that Greg said Michael invited a girl he liked. Could it be her? The question made his nose flare. No way! She was not going to accept his proposal. But what if she does? “Oh looks like Violet bought a friend with her” Greg smiled. Just then, Tylor noticed Violet standing beside Anna. Did she know about Michael’s crush on Anna? Why was she entertaining that? He had so many questions in his mind. “Come on” Greg nudged him. “I’m fine. Don’t worry about it” Tylor politely declined, not wanting to see her up close. Standing a few inches away from her was making him lose his sanity; he did not want to risk anymore. Besides the whole point of partying was to forget about her, so there was no way he was going near her. “Are you sure?” Grey raised his brow, conflicted between going to his brother and keeping Tylor company. “Yes. Go now!” Tylor huffed, playfully pushing him away. He stood in the same corner, patiently staring at them because he had nothing to do. Anna was polite to greet Greg, but something was missing in her smile. Her eyes didn’t look bright like they used to before; she felt reserved and more on edge. It made him worry. Was everything okay with her? Why did he care? She should mean nothing to him after the way she left him for his best friend of all people. Just the thought made him take a huge gulp of the beer. Anna accepted a drink from Michael, a shy smile on her face. It almost made Tylor feral at the way she was blushing. Probably because of Michael. The grip on his bottle tightened until his fingernails turned white. He tried to avert his eyes, focus on something else, but he couldn’t look away. Few minutes passed by before she was rushing towards the dance floor. Tylor glared as she got in the middle of the crowd and started dancing, her head thrown back with laughter. When she finally straightened back up, her loose hair fell right into her eyes, her tiny frame pressed against some guy behind her. Tylor empties his entire bottle as he followed her every movement, as she gracefully moved against those sweaty bodies. He never witnessed Anna so loose and free. Around her, there were nearly a dozen other guys, and they all were staring at her like she was a piece of meat. It angered him. As if Anna felt his eyes on her, she turned her body ever so slightly around, her dark eyes meeting his. Her mouth fell open when he raised his brow at her, waiting for her to do something. Instead, his ex-girlfriend turned around, utterly unaffected by his presence and continued dancing. That was all it took for Tylor to drop the empty bottle on the stand behind him. He doesn’t even think before sliding through the mass of moving bodies to get to the dance floor. All he knew was to reach her as soon as possible. He gripped her wrist, feeling her soft velvety skin under his rough, calloused ones. She turned back, her eyes wide. “We are leaving” Tylor yelled over the music, dragging her towards the kitchen. *** Join my socials for exclusive fun!
