I immediately looked over at Abigail. Her eyes were as wide as the doctor's. She clutched at her chest. She went to stand up but stumbled back, and Dr. Lockhart was there in an instant to catch her. They looked into each other's eyes, not breaking their intense eye contact as Abigail's eyes misted over, and her mouth hung open.
“I guess this is my cue,” I said.
They didn't hear me as I slipped out of the room. I still hadn’t had my checkup, so I sat in the waiting room. As soon as I found a seat, the clinic door slammed open, making me jump. I overheard Jennifer’s voice at the front desk. I turned away, hoping she wouldn't notice me, even though I was only a few feet away.
“You don’t have an appointment, dear.” The nurse said after asking her name.
