Isla The warmth I had felt all night was replaced by a coldness that sunk deep into my skin. It was so cold I was shivering. Not just on the outside but it felt like all the blood in my veins had frozen solid. The rain lashed and the wind howled around me, I couldn’t hear anything but my own erratic heartbeat. The heaviness weighed on my chest as if it were a physical thing fighting for space against the emptiness that was trying to consume me. I smelled blood, overpowering even in the rain. I wanted to throw up knowing who it must belong to. I couldn’t look down, I couldn’t confirm my worst nightmare, even though I knew it was true. I would join them soon; I hoped it wouldn’t hurt.
