CHAPTER 6 AFTER A RESTLESS NIGHT, Admiral Parker awakens when it’s still dark. Weary from the lack of sleep, his body aches. The time-zone difference and the questions surrounding the case conspired to torment him throughout the night, as did the messages on Donna’s phone. Time is of the essence. Back in Maryland, Parker took walks around his neighborhood in the early morning with a cup of coffee in hand. Today, he’ll do the same. Up and dressed, he grabs the base map lying on the table. He circles the mystery building near the perimeter woods where his driver warned him of contamination. A cup of coffee made, he takes a sip and walks out the front door. Then, pausing, he inhales the crisp morning air and enjoys the glimmers of light wrapping around buildings. This is his favorite time
