CHAPTER 20 SECRETARY VASQUEZ’ JET touches down on the tarmac at 0950. General Taylor and Admiral Parker stand ready to greet him as he descends the exit steps. “Gentlemen, it’s good to see you.” Taylor nods. “Thank you, sir. Honored to host you today.” “We’ve got business to do, so let’s go where we can talk freely.” Taylor leads Vasquez to an SUV. Parker follows. The men exchange some small-talk about the weather and the quality of the secretary’s flight but speak of nothing of consequence. Once settled in the general’s office, the three men sit at the small conference table. Taylor offers Vasquez coffee, and he declines. “We’ll dispense with the niceties and get down to business.
