CHAPTER 18 JIM SURVEYS THE cul-de-sac where he’ll live until the investigation ends. Donna waves to him from her doorway and walks over. “Hey, welcome to the neighborhood.” Jim smiles. “Thanks. It’s been a while since I lived on a base, and I never had quarters like this.” “Well, I bet you haven’t filled your refrigerator yet. So, how about dinner at my place in an hour?” “What guy can pass on an invitation like that? I’ll come with a bottle of wine.” Donna smiles too, “All right, see you in a few.” She returns to her quarters and prepares the meal. A stir fry. Simple. Fast. While she cuts up the vegetables, she turns on the evening news and listens to the anchor explain the path of the hurricane off the southern coast.
