Chapter 6: Met him in the kindergartener

1029 Words
Old house. What is this woman talking about? Carol was confused. Ciara stopped waiting. As she walked out of the door, April walked into the office in a hurry. “Where is Jason?  He promised to go to Yolanda’s school activities. Yolanda’s class will be welcoming two new students. There is going to be a welcome dance and both parents are expected to come.” April’s tone had some kind of arrogance.  Ciara heard it in the hallway, but she didn't stop her pace. She didn't want to meet Jason especially when April was also there.  "Mr. Anrold is in the meeting, Miss April. Excuse me." Carol said to April before leaving the office. April had been waiting for Jason for a long while in the office, but he still didn't show up. When she saw the watch on Jason's desk, she went crazy and smashed it against the wall. Jason won’t let go of this watch, if it stops working he makes sure that it is repaired. Ciara has been dead for 4 years. Why won’t he let her go? Why is she still in his cold heart? She has been working hard for the past 4 years to erase her in his life but it looks like it isn’t working. She can’t continue fighting a dead person. “Why are you here?” Jason's voice brought her back to reality.  April hid her hatred for Ciara and walked towards him with a smile as if she didn’t feel some resentment when he talked. “Aren’t you going to attend Yolanda’s class activities this afternoon? I’m afraid you can’t go back on your word. We need to be there.” Jason’s frowned slightly when he saw an extra contract on the table. His face changed after turning a few pages. “Has Jane left yet?” he asked into the phone, his voice and the hand holding the phone trembling slightly. “Who’s Jane?” Asked April. Seeing Jason react this way made April unhappy. April didn't know what did the person on the other line of the phone spoken. She then heard Jason saying, "No matter what her condition is, promise her first. We need her. Yes, I will take to her about this and apologize."   “Who is this Jane? She’s making you happy, which is rare?” April was curious about this person.  But Jason got back to the original topic, “When will Yolanda’s activities start?”  Seeing that he was happy, April took advantage of that. “I have been waiting for you until midday, and now I have to go. The mother of the new students will bring cupcakes for all the children in the class as part of the school culture. I also learned to bake cupcakes, especially for this.” Hearing this made Jason unhappy. “Why are you baking? Isn’t that supposed to be the mother of the new students’ job? What are you hoping to benefit?” Doesn’t baking take some time? When did she bake if she said she waited for him here for long? What is wrong with this woman? She made the housekeeper bake and she’s here trying to take credit for cupcakes she didn’t bake. April hasn’t realised that her story doesn’t add up. “Yolanda is our little princess. She was born an heir, she must focus on the businesses. I won’t allow anyone to take that away from her.”  Jason really struggled to see how this woman reasoned. He just didn’t know what she wanted. Sam walked in when he was about to tell her not to take the cupcakes to the school. “Mr. Arnold I found someone who will be able to fix the watch, I have already made an appointment. Give the watch to me I will take it to him."  Jason looked at the table, where he put his watch. His heart sank when he didn’t find it. April clenched her slender fingers on her purse and straightened her back nervously. When Jason saw the watch on the floor, broken, the atmosphere in the office changed. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. April could hear her heartbeat, it beat so fast she was afraid it might stop. “Don’t take it there for now,” Jason finally said, breaking the tension and silence. April’s heart stopped beating so hard. She felt herself relax. Jason put the watch in his suit pocket and he didn’t say anything more about it. He then turned to April, “It’s almost noon. Go to kindergarten first. Don’t make Yolanda wait alone for too long.” And then he walked out of the office in big strides. *** As Ciara just finished baking cupcakes with Oliver and Ava at home, her phone rang. She saw Jason sending her a friend request. After approving it, she received a picture. It was a broken watch in the picture.  She looked at the message. She was confused. Why was the watch broken? It wasn’t when she left. Did he think she was the one who broke it? “Mummy, what’s wrong?” Asked Ava who saw her mom staring at the phone with a frown. Ava came to her mom as soon as she was done putting the cupcakes in the gift box. She put her little hand on her mom’s thigh. Ciara quickly relaxed her face. She touched her daughter’s hair and praised her for a job well done. “Ava baby this is really amazing. The gift box is packaged well.” Ava patted her mom’s thigh and in a soft little voice, she said, “Hurray! I love playing with other kids. I hope they will like me!" In the afternoon, in the kindergarten.  “Dad!"  With people around screaming, Ciara and Angela entered the venue for the welcoming party. The first thing they saw was an extremely handsome father and his daughter. This tall and handsome man held up a little girl in a white princess dress. He held her like she was a royal little princess. That was Jason and his daughter.  Ciara halted her footstep!
