Chapter 10 - Worry

1087 Words
Patricia was about to unbutton Cyrus’ pants when the man suddenly stood with a panic-stricken face, “What?!” He strode forward and fixed his clothes, “To where park did they go?” … Talia already reached the other street after searching for several hours inside the mini forest. She didn’t feel exhausted as she still called for her son’s name, “Trevor! Please!” Only when she reached the other part did she see a dark street, a place where there were only a few lights and residents. “Trevor!?” she called again. “Mom?” Talia flinched to the side when she heard the voice but when she looked around, there was no one present. “Mom? Is that you?” She heard the voice again and finally realized that it was coming from the waste disposal containers that were lining up on the side. They were big and were enough to hide a child. “Trevor!? Where are you?!” “Here!” Talia tracked the voice and when she opened the container right in the middle she saw her son. Tears finally broke down in her eyes as she was about to take and hug him but Trevor stopped her by lifting his hand. “We need to go to the hospital Mom.” And by the faint light on the street lamp by the corner, there she saw that on Trevor’s lap was another child who seemed to have fallen asleep but his breathing was fast and heavy. And she stopped when she saw blood on Trevor’s clothes and the boy’s. “Trevor?!” Talia was already trembling greatly. “Mom, please. He needs to get treated!” Trevor called. Talia wanted to secure and scold him but the situation seemed to be serious that she ended up obeying her son’s words. She first gently took the child, then supported Trevor to climb down from the high container. Only when they were on the road did Talia notice something, “This boy…” “He’s Charlie.” Trevor corrected her, “And he didn’t escape from the prison, the organization that he was working with took him out and tried to kill him but someone saved him but by doing so, they tried to kill him too!” Talia couldn’t understand anything as she carried the unconscious child in her arms. “T-Trevor, just what happened? Are you hurt?” she was still worried about her child despite seeing him in the same condition as earlier. “I’m fine Mom,” Trevor turned to her as they hurriedly walked towards the main street where they could call a taxi, “We must save Charlie at all cost. He didn’t do anything.” Talia could only nod seeing the great resolve on Trevor’s words but she was still trembling. She is carrying a wounded child! And when they reached the nearest hospital, the child was immediately attended to the emergency room since he had a wound on his side caused by a metal object that may have contained infection. Trevor was completely worried but was turned over by his mother to hug him close. Talia hugged him tightly as she held his tears, she brushed his hair and checked his body all over, “Are you hurt? Is there something wrong? Do you feel pain anywhere?” Trevor then realized that he got his mom worried and couldn’t help but hug her back, “I’m sorry…I’m not hurt…It was Charlie I was worried about.” Talia exhaled and calmed herself down before carrying Trevor on the bench. There, she became serious and asked him, “Just what happened?” Trevor also turned his whole attention to Talia and narrated the whole story. “I saw the news about Charlie’s escape earlier. And I was fascinated that my feelings on going outdoors were ignited,” Talia frowned, “What?” “Mom, listen. I was amazed by how he made his explosives and I tried…” “What?!” Talia exclaimed but Trevor stopped her. “Mom!” Trevor exclaimed, “I bought some things to try out on the sand earlier but I saw him.” Talia was serious as she listened so does Trevor. “By the trees, I saw him! Staring at me and I found myself chasing him right inside those thick trees! He ran and ran but he suddenly lost consciousness after I reached him.” He paused. Talia tightened her fist, “Did…did someone hurt him?” Trevor raised his head and shook it but then nodded then shook, he wasn’t sure, “He said before losing consciousness that he was searching for me. That he was caught by the organization he was working with but was saved…” Talia frowned. “But then that person looked like they would harm him so he escaped and tried to find me but he was caught up with some gangster on the way and was stabbed on the side, with a sharp metal!” Trevor then took her hand, “Mom! Charlie experienced such things, can you please help him?” Talia felt her headache once more, “Charlie…that kid who tried to bomb your school?” “It wasn’t his fault.” Trevor defended. Talia pulled him for a hug, “Trevor, how can you trust that person in such a strange encounter? He is dangerous!” Trevor broke free and said, “No, he isn’t. He is just a victim of the world’s prejudice. He didn’t do anything wrong at all.” Talia didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, she was exhausted and in stress but her child was here talking about prejudice and all just for a kid. “Calm down first Trevor. I seemed to have forgotten my phone somewhere, do you have yours?” Talia asked but Trevor shook his head. “We need to report this to the police—“ “Mom—“ “Trevor.” Talia threw him a warning glare, “This matter is serious and we cannot handle this, the authority will always have the final words.” Trevor was conflicted again. If they told this to the police, Charlie would get arrested again! “And we haven’t contacted anyone in the house,” Talia said as she turned around, “Stay here, I’ll search for a telephone.” But when she was about to stand, there came a call on the hall, “Talia!”
