Alice
Luca isn’t in bed when I woke up.
The bed is cold and empty even with the morning sunlight streaming in from the floor to ceiling windows.
He isn’t even in the room, that much was obvious as I swept my eyes around. My clothes were, folded neatly at the end of the bed.
A sudden wave of dread swept through me. Why wasn’t he here? I hadn’t expected a marriage proposal but to not be here at all.
No good morning kisses.
No goodbye kiss either by the looks of it.
And it was obvious he wanted me gone, my shoes were sat neatly by the firmly shut door.
Tears threatened to overtake me.
How had I been such a colossal fool. He had played me and played me well.
Getting me into bed... well in our case on the sofa had been his plan all along and I like the stupid fool I was had fallen for it and him.
Straightening my shoulders, I blinked back the tears. I wouldn’t cry. It hadn’t even been s*x. It had been nothing but two consenting adults fooling around after a gun had been pulled on them. A brush with death would make any woman crave affection.
So, screw him. I got what I needed and had fallen asleep before I could give him any.
Jokes on him.
I almost laughed as I smoothed the dress over my thighs and opening the door. No one ever died from the walk of shame. As far as I knew anyway. I opened the door and almost walked straight into Stefanos broad chest.
“Oh hey” I frozen under his scrutiny. The last time I had seen him he had had a gun in his hands. Something about Stefano scared me, though he was smiling now. It was the way a cat who was about to eat a mouse would smile.
“Morning, would you like to order breakfast?”
I raised a brow at him. What was he a gun wielding butler?
“Luca said to get you whatever you wanted before you left” My smile faltered and then cracked completely.
“And where is Luca?” My gaze swept the room, there was no one but the two of us.
“He had to step out, but he asked me to tell you he would be in touch as soon as he could” Stefano smirked.
I had never wanted to hit someone as much as I did him at that moment. “Ah I see, well in that case ill just be going, make you tell Luca thanks” My voice dripped sarcasm and it was his turn to frown.
“Alice, Ma’am”
“I’m guessing ill need a key card to get off this floor” I stalked towards the elevator. I remembered briefly Luca using the card last night. Obviously access to the penthouse suites was closely guarded.
“Yes” Stefano looked lost suddenly. “I’ll walk you”
“That’s quite alright Stefano, I’m a big girl. You just use that card of yours and ill see myself back to my room. I wouldn’t want to put you or your boss out a moment longer” I gave him a disarming smile.
If I was a big enough girl to wake up alone after our first night together then I was sure as hell walking myself back. Maybe this was how Luca did things, get one of his men to walk the girl back after a tumble?
If he offered money, I was going to smack him upside the head with my shoe though.
“I’m on floor six”
Stefano hesitated. “Alice, I think Luca would like me to make sure you got back to your friends ok”
I pressed the button for him, reaching around him. “Well Luca isn’t he” I gave a chuckle. I was being a mega b***h but hey I had Casey as a best friend, so I had plenty of experience on how to act. “But tell him thanks, ill see you guys around” I blew him a kiss as the doors shut.
Alice mega b***h.
The walk of shame as I made my way along my floor was mortifying. People averted their eyes which was so much better than the fact that as soon as I stepped inside my room. Hoping to fall into bed and cry in peace, all eyes swiveled on to me.
“Where have you been?”
“Are you just getting in?”
“Of course, she’s just getting in, she’s in last night’s clothes “Casey sneered. “A night with Mr. Moretti was it?”
“None of your business” I tossed my shoes onto the bed, flopping down after it.
“That’s a yes then” Casey waggled her fingers. “Thought you would be rushing off to spend the day with him again, its like you are spending every waking moment with him. Instead of us. Your friends” Her bitter tone wasn’t lost on me. Was she jealous? It really sounded like she was jealous.
“Well I’m all yours Casey, he wasn’t even there when I woke up”
Casey laughter was shrill. “What? Seriously. He f****d you and left you there?” Her glee was starting to grate on my nerves. Why was I even friends with her?
“We didn’t f**k, just fooled around” I waved a hand in her direction. If you could call the most amazing oral of my life just fooling around.
“Guess he got sick of waiting around” Casey smirked down at me.
“Yeah, I guess so, so what’s the plans for today? Are we doing anything fun?” Changing the subject was safer because if she kept up in that tone of voice, I may punch her in her painted mouth.
“Lots of fun things actually, I have the whole day planned” Typical Casey, only happy when it was about her. “And you never know you might meet a guy who is happy with just a few little kisses”
Why was I even friends with her?
