CHAPTER ELEVEN As soon as Maxwell pulled up in the New Haven precinct parking lot, Stella jumped into the unmarked, feeling optimistic that they had a new direction that would take them further, and that they’d be investigating it together. The rain had finally stopped, and weak sunshine was doing its best to break through the clouds. The afternoon felt lighter, brighter, and more positive in every way. “So from what Jessica said, Desiree was literally flirting, sleeping with them, and then moving on?” she confirmed. “Yes. That seems to have been her modus operandi,” Maxwell agreed. “And do you think Jessica was telling the truth?” Stella glanced at Maxwell doubtfully. “She wasn’t just repeating rumors?” “The truth is a strange animal,” Maxwell said as he accelerated around a corner.
