Chapter Six- Past and Present

1904 Words
“I know I shouldn’t be here, I’m sorry…” She spoke while entering his living room and pausing in the middle of the floor, waiting for him to accept her comment and ask her to leave at any moment. “I think you are the only person left that doesn’t mind my company…” His eyes narrowed to her, feeling pain for her when she spoke these words to him.  “Do you want a drink? Seems to me like you need one…” He commented before slipping his phone into his pocket to give her the entirety of his attention.  “No...Thank you..” he nodded and motioned for her to sit upon the couch, bringing his arm on the back of the sofa as his eyes remained solely upon her, not wishing to miss a moment of her actions. “I shouldn’t have come here-” “Why did you, then? I don’t mind, I’m just..you keep saying that like I’m forbidden to you…After all, we are just friends...” She swallowed hard against his words as his eyes remained upon her, making her nervous. His eyes had the ability to frighten her with the cool composite of his light irises that harbored a darkness that she would never quite understand. But as he looked at her, aware how broken she was before him, he managed to appear perfectly together for her; if never any other moment, it had been now.  Tears built in her eyes as she fought to keep them concealed while looking away from him and explaining her reason for seeking him out in opposition to others she had in her life. “I don’t even know where to start...It seems like the last two days have forced my life into a blender and what exists now is what was left from being blended, spun, and shredded…” “Is it about Jared?” He asked beneath a clenched jaw, wishing to appear indifferent to her relationship with his brother, but finding it impossible to conceal it.  “Partially...But…” She paused, shaking her head in disbelief. “My mom’s in the hospital...She took an entire bottle of pills and-” His face suddenly twisted in torment and understanding. He allowed her a moment to collect herself before moving closer to her, bringing his hand to hers to try and comfort her.  “I don’t want this to sound as though I’m trying to make it about me...but...I understand…” her tearful gaze looked up to him, his fingers brushing beneath her eye as one tear had managed to escape from her. “I don’t know how much Jared has told you about me...but we aren’t full blooded brothers. I had a different mother...and she was..she was incredibly feisty...reminds me of you a little bit…” They both chuckled before he continued. “But she had so many demons and I was eight when I found her…” Cartier brought her hand over her mouth in shock. “It was a sleep medication and she took it all at once..After that, I was sent to live with my dad, someone I had met only twice and whom I hated more than the doctor who told me that she died…” “I’m so sorry…” His eyes now reconnected with hers as she gave him her sympathy.  “I only told you because I want you to know that I understand. But she found help...So you have to keep hope that it will be alright.” Cartier nodded before feeling him pull her against his chest, the strength he managed to conceal beneath toned arms having amazed her as well as the level of comfort she felt in someone she hardly knew. “I’m glad I can be here for you…” He began to speak, now pulling apart from her. “But I think Jared should be the one consoling you-” Cartier did not hide her disapproval of him having been mentioned as she pulled back even further from Dominick and rolled her eyes in annoyance. “He is probably screwing Sarah Ryland as we speak...he couldn’t even wait a day before hooking up with another girl...I saw the text on his phone when he left it to get me coffee…” His eyes moved into a glare as he looked at her with borderline confusion.  “I thought you preferred tea…” He reminded her as she nodded.  “I do...but Jared never pays attention to those things. Besides, he thought I needed more ‘pep’.” She scoffed. “Even if I wasn’t a cheerleader, I needed the attitude of one apparently…” She continued to comment before he chuckled to her comment  “I’m going to get you some tea-” He informed her while motioning to exit to the kitchen, pausing as if he was going to say something else, but continuing forward after shaking his head. Curious as to what it was he was going to say, she followed his path into the kitchen to find him bent over the sink, mentally berating himself.  “Are you okay?” She asked, her tears having since dried.  “Yeah..” he quickly resumed his arrogant stance before turning to collect a mug, tea bag, and accompaniments before she moved to his side of the kitchen. But as she moved closer to him, he stepped swiftly away from her, careful to keep his distance. Casting him a look of confusion, he set his palms upon the counter of the island that separated them before his eyes met with her own.  “You are right, you shouldn’t have come here…” the light behind his eyes suddenly faded to darkness as she continued to observe him, noting how his soft demeanor had been exchanged for its complete opposition to distant and melancholic.  “Why?” She questioned, reveling in the fact she seemed to get under his skin. As he was distracted in trying to create an answer for her, she slipped to his side before bringing her hand to his chest. “Afraid you won’t be able to resist me this time?” Cartier spoke these words with the desire to act playful to Dominick, but his eyes, overtaken by lust, took hold of her innocent gaze. She knew without the need of warning that she had placed herself in his crosshairs; a place that was both dangerous and exhilarating. Time seemed to rush and stand still at the same time as he used his body to push her against the island, one hand passing by either hip and connecting to the surface behind her.  “Because as I told you, I’m not a good guy…” He brought his hand to her cheek. “I am only going to end up hurting you..” She paused for a moment, looking to the ground before locking her eyes onto his own.  “Then I guess you can’t say you didn’t warn me…” Speaking this final word, she brought her hand to the back of his sable hair and pulled him into her until their lips came together in a first kiss.. For a moment, he did not reciprocate the kiss and had instead allowed her lips to fall upon his flat. But when this moment ended, his body betrayed his attempt to keep his distance from her as he dug his fingers into the countertop behind her, struggling to keep his hands to himself. Finally accepting her kiss, he took his hands to her back and brought her immediately against him.  Dominick drew his fingers beyond her face and into her hair, running his fingerprints upon her head, wishing to possess her in any way he could. Keeping her body pinned between him and the kitchen island, Dominick brought his grip to the back of her neck and to her back, bringing her as close against him as he could-enough to feel his member harden from the passionate kiss. Blushing to the feeling of this impressive bulge, Dominick had pulled back for a moment.  “You are emotionally distraught-” He began to talk them both out of the moment before she brought her hands to his shoulders, digging her nails gently into his arms to keep his attention.  “I am not drunk, I am not guilted….I am sad but you...you make it better somehow...Now do you want me to continue feeling sad or do you want to help me feel better again?” She asked coquettishly as he c****d his head to the side along with a scoff of disbelief before feeling her fingers gather and rest behind his neck.  “F**k it…” Lifting her onto the counter, Dominick no longer cared to be a gentleman or to keep her safe. Instead, he wanted her and would allow himself the decadent taste of her kiss for as long as she would allow. The six year age difference did not seem to matter in the passion between them both as their lips seemed to fit together perfectly, the delicious kisses of wanting and needing having passed to and from each other. As her fingers would move through his hair, his would lower to her back and up to her neck, bringing her to and from his body while her legs wrapped behind his back.  But as fate would have it, a knock would interrupt this moment...at least for Cartier.  “Whoever it is, ignore it….” Dominick spoke into her chest as his lips had now lowered to her clavicle, causing her skin to develop goosebumps from his hot breath upon her nearly virginal skin.  “What if it is important?” “More than this?” His eyes rose to hers before the sound of his buckle coming undone had made her anxious. “Impossible…” He continued to speak before bringing his grip to her butt, pulling her towards him before she was able to feel the unmistakable erection solid from their interaction. Her eyes closed in an instant as he returned his lips to her neck; one hand supporting her head and the other on the counter at her side to hold himself up.  The knock happened once more...this time with increasing speed and strength. Breathless, Dominick pulled from her, allowing his tongue to brush her bottom lip in exiting his French kiss before letting out a sigh. “Whoever it is...they better be f*****g dying…” Bringing his belt buckle back together, he adjusted himself once turning away from her and moving towards the door. Keeping herself upon the counter, she fixed her hair and used the screen of her phone to check her makeup before hearing the door come open.  “Jared?” Her heart stopped upon hearing his name-knowing she had been just as guilty as him for having ‘moved on’ so quickly-with his brother no less…
