Chapter 7
Alpha Leon’s POV
Getting to the dinner shop, I am already annoyed. There has been money missing and I don’t know who is doing it. Part of me wants to take everyone into the woods and tear them to pieces, these damn humans and the annoying things they do to me. I know I have to keep it together, this town isnt a good place for a wolf but these humans just cannot get enough coffee, and they give good reviews on the internet which makes business a lot stronger.
Walking through the backdoor, I smelled lavender and spice, it was almost intoxicating, but I didn’t have time to process that as Rebecca was waiting there with my coffee. Damn, I wish she would just leave me alone and let me come in without anything.
“Morning Boss.” Rebecca is the most annoying of my staff. “Did you sleep well?”
“You know I don’t sleep.” I snapped at her. “What, who is that?” I asked watching a new girl doing something near the donuts. “New hire again?”
“Yeah, her name is Abby,” she said looking at me. “We don’t keep staff around because of your temper you know that.”
“Yeah well, I have you around even though you and I don’t get along all that well sometimes, I am glad that you are here with me still.” I sighed. I know I need to be more patient, but I don’t have that. Running the mob isnt something about patience, it's about getting things done.
This is just a side job, and well a cover for my business out back. Even though I don’t do anything until after dark, it still has to be safe enough for my wolves to come into town. I have noticed there are more wolves here than six months ago.
I know I could keep my temper cool, but I want people scared of me. I want them to wake up on eggshells, even if they think they can take me on I still want them to question that. I don’t want people working under me who will try and overthrow me.
I’ve been a mobster most of my life, my father taught me how to do things his way, and I've l
I don’t know if there is another boss in town, if there is he hasn't come around to let me know he wants to talk. If he wants to try and take things away from me well that isnt going to happen. I will bury anyone that wants to come and take what I’ve built here.
“So the new hire kind of did something to one of the customers,” Rebecca said sitting in front of me.
I don’t like when she does this, I don’t know why she thinks getting people into trouble will get her what she wants. She’s always had something for me, but with her being human and all I don’t want anything to do with her. She is annoying and I have my mate out there, I just don’t know when I will find her I hope to find her soon. I am dying to have her next to me, so I can show her all kinds of things and show her that she is protected.
“So what did she do?”
“She smacked Big Ben.” she sighed. “I didn’t know what he was going to do, but he managed to leave pissed off.”
“Seriously?” I growled. I didn’t need someone new girl coming in here doing this to my business, yeah Ben is annoying as hell but smacking him isnt something that she should have done. “And what did you do about it?”
“Nothing.” she sighed. “I didn’t know what to do, and I know he has a temper too, I didn’t want to get in the middle of it.”
“Did he hurt the girl?” I asked pushing myself back in the chair. I don’t want anyone suing me because of my customer, but she asked for it, and well I wasn't going to do anything to her if she didn’t get hurt.
“No, the worst she got was soda thrown at her.” she mused. “I am sure she is fine, I sent her outside to get some air, but she should be back by now.”
“She is, I saw her by the donuts, don’t tell me you have her doing that?”
“I do.” she laughed. “You know I hate doing it, so since I hired her a few days ago I wanted to give her a welcome.”
I didn’t like her a little more now, she was making me look bad and that's not going to happen. “Why don’t you bring her in here so I can meet her?” I commanded, she got up and left the office.
For a moment I felt something weird, my wolf was acting weird but he isnt saying anything. Maybe he doesn’t know, or maybe there is a threat around and he is getting ready for an attack. My wolf rarely gets quiet and when he does it's for a good thing, or a bad thing depending on how you want to look at the situation.
“What's going on with you Jake?” I asked my wolf.
“I don’t know, I don’t want to talk about it.” he sighed. When he doesn’t want to talk about something it's usually a bad thing, “I mean you know we should have her by now. I can feel something but when I focus on it, it goes away,”
“Well try not to focus on it, I know you want her so do I but the Moon Goddess isnt going to give her to us until we’re ready, she isnt going to be brought into the mess we’re dealing with.” I sighed.
I would love for our mate to come into our lives, that way she can center us and everything else would fall into place nicely. But I know things have been bad and she isnt going to want to be in our lives if I don’t get my s**t together,
“We both have to get our s**t together, I know our mate is going to be amazing and she isnt going to let you control her.”
“Well I hope she has some kind of control over me, I am losing it here.” I sighed. “As much as I want to be a badass I think I am done with all of that.”
“Yeah well try and tell that to everyone that you’ve pissed off I am sure it's not going to go down like you want it to.” he laughed at me.
He knows me more than anyone and I cannot lie to him. I don’t want to be that ass anymore, and he wants to change. “We’re going to find her when the time is right.” I sighed. I didn’t like the wait either but we’re not going to rush it.
Just then that smell hit me, and a knock on the door Rebecca was standing there with the new hire.
“Boss, this is Abby,” she said moving out of the way. “Abby this is the Boss Leon, if you need something you have to deal with him and him telling you no.”
“Welcome,” I said clearing my throat. “Have a seat so we can kind of have a conversation about what happened earlier,” I said motioning for the chair.
Watching her, I could tell she was nervous and maybe even a little scared. I don’t want to come off as a badass but she does need to know her place. “Rebecca let me know if you need her and I will let her get back to work.”
When she sat down, the smell was almost all around her. I don’t know who she is, but she is smelling very nice. “So Abby,” I said clearing my throat. “I heard about what happened with one of the customers, can you tell me what happened?”
“He got mad,” she said without looking at me. “He disrespected me, so I smacked him. Please don’t fire me for that, I didn’t mean to do it,” she said finally looking at me, her eyes were innocent but she had a fire there. “Please.”
“You’re not going to get fired, but you cannot smack people.” I sighed. “Big Ben is an i***t, and he most likely needed the smack, but try not to let it happen again.”
“I promise, I was just having a bad day, I am new here and I didn’t want people talking down to me. I’ve gotten that kind of treatment where I am from, and I left because I didn’t want to deal with it anymore.”
“Good at least you come from somewhere that has made you stronger. I wouldn't have guessed you could hurt someone.” I laughed. “It's nice to meet you, if you need something please let me know, I am here most days but I do have some stuff I deal with that makes me leave here.”
“Alright,” she said with a small smile. “I should get back out there, I can tell Rebecca is having some issues,” she said nervously.
“Go, but I am here if you need it.” I sighed.
