Chapter 6
Two days later.
Today I get to officially start my job, I am nervous but at least I have something to do now. I have been bored these last couple of days, yeah we’ve been laying low because we don’t want to cause a scene, but I don’t want to keep hanging out here. I know my wolf wants to go and play in the woods but it's too soon.
I don’t want to run into another wolf, I don’t know what I would do if someone found out I am hiding from my Alpha. I know people would tell him where I am and then it would be over for me but I hope it doesn’t come down to it.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” my wolf asked.
“There isnt a choice.” I sighed. “If we want to get out of here then we have to go through this part, I hope it only takes a few months to get out of here, but we might be longer.”
I didn’t want to be here, but I know we cannot just get on a train and hope for the best. I want to ensure we have enough money to get to where we will be safe. “I know you think we can survive with just you, but I cannot eat rabbit like that.”
“Well you should; learn to like it, I know it's good for you.” she mused. “I know you want to be the one that takes care of everything, but why don’t you let me do something?”
“I am.” I sighed. “Don't make me push you out, I don’t need you distracting me because then I will lose my job and then we’re going to be stuck here and Tate will find us,” I said brushing my hair. “I think I am ready for this, I am nervous but I think I am ready.”
“I hope so,” she said before she went silent.
I didn’t know what she was so nervous about. Yeah, I haven't been around the humans much but they aren't anything special. I know I cannot say I am a wolf, I hope I don’t have to talk to anyone but maybe the customers, I know they are going to be hard to deal with but I know it's not hard.
Walking to the diner, I felt weird walking into the place. Maybe it's because this is my first day, or because I know one mistake can get me into a lot of trouble.
“Welcome.” the woman at the counter said. “What can I get you?”
“I am here to start my first day.” I smiled. “Abby.”
“Rebecca, you know Boss is going to be here today, I suggest you not say anything when he is around. He isnt a happy guy.” she sighed. “But he is trying.”
I didn’t say anything, I don’t know the guy and if he is having a bad day then I am going to do everything I can to make sure he doesn’t get mad at me. I know things are bad for humans, but it's fine I will just keep quiet, and then everything will be fine for my first day.
“Don't worry.” I sighed. “I am going to be a quiet person anyway.”
“I hope not,” she said shaking her head. “He doesn’t like when his customers complain, so you have to make sure they get everything they want no matter how dumb it is.”
“Okay.”
Rebecca showed me around the place, it's a lot bigger than I thought it would be. Thankfully she has me only making drinks and keeping the donuts stocked. We weren’t that busy at first, but then everyone started to come in, I seemed to get messy for a moment before I found where I needed to be.
I thought this was going to be a lot easier to do but it's not as it seems. Yeah, drinks are easy to pour and taking them to the customer was nice. Some of the customers were kind of rude about it, but I kept myself calm when I dealt with them.
“Are you deaf?” a man growled at me. “I said I wanted extra ice!” he said throwing his drink at me. “You know I’ve come here for years now and no one seems to get this right!”
“I am sorry,” I said picking up the broken glass. “I will make sure you get what you want, this is my first day.”
“First day?” he scoffed. “It’s going to be your last day when I talk to Leon about you. You pathetic little girl!” he slammed his fists down. “You better get this right, and if you bring back enough ice maybe I let you slide.”
I didn’t need to lose this job, it's not my fault that I didn’t know he wanted extra ice. If he would have put it on the ticket then I would have known. I didn’t stay standing there, part of me wanted to go into the back and cry, but I knew if I did that then he would have something else to complain about.
I walked over to the ice machine, I didn’t know how much ice he wanted so I filled the cup up and then put the soda in it, I know there is a chance he will throw it at me again, but I hope he doesn’t.
“Finally,” he growled when he saw me coming towards him. “You are so slow, and well that is better,” he said snatching the drink out of my hand. “Go and get my food you lazy bitch.”
“Lazy?” I asked. “You’ve done nothing but insult me, this is my first day and if you wanted extra ice you should have said something.”
“Are you talking about a customer?” he mused. “Wait until Leon hears about this, you are going to be begging me to change what I tell him.” he laughed. “Oh what are you going to go and cry now, why don’t you fill up a cup.” he laughed harder. “Go ahead let me see them.”
I couldn’t take it, I smacked him, and his eyes turned to shock. I didn’t know if I should say I was sorry or do it again. I know I have made a mistake.
“Wow,” he said throwing money on the table and leaving the restaurant. I don’t know if he is going to get me into trouble but I know I cannot let that kind of thing happen again. If I have a job after this I will be happy.
“Come to the back,” Rebecca asked. “I cannot believe you smacked him.”
“Well he should have said something nicer, I don’t know if I will have a job after this, but it felt good smacking him.” I sighed. “I don’t even know how you manage to deal with people like him, I don’t know if I could.”
“Oh you don’t have to worry about Leon, he isnt going to fire you, he doesn’t like half the people we get in here, and he doesn’t like when we are disrespected.”
“Well, I will feel better once I know he isnt going to get rid of me. I need this job more than anything, I thought I could handle that customer better.”
“Don't worry I am not going to tell anyone about what happened. Leon isnt going to believe him when he says it. I wouldn't worry about that customer that much, if I were him he wouldn't come back until he knows some respect.”
I didn’t say anything, it's not my place to treat people like that, but I know I am going to have to be careful the next time he comes around, I have a feeling it's not going to be the last time I get to be around him.
“Are you okay now?” Rebecca asked. “Do you need to step outside?”
“That might be a good idea.” I sighed. I didn’t want to look weak but I felt like it. I know if I don’t control myself my wolf is going to handle things and I don’t know how she is going to be.
“Well go and take your break, it's dying down in here. Leon should be here soon, and when you do meet him you have to look him in the eye otherwise he is going to give you a lecture about respecting him and trust me it's not worth it, he will get mean.”
“Don't worry I know how to handle people, I have a person I used to call our leader that kind of sounds like that, I am sure I will be fine,” I said before walking outside.
It was nice outside.
I know I am going to have to be careful when it comes to the Boss being here. I don’t know if he is like Tate, but I know Tate was ruthless when people didn’t give him the respect that he wanted, and well that is where he and I hated each other.
I know he still wanted me as his Luna, but because I was the only one who could handle his temper, I don’t want to do that again. Leon is my boss, so I can put him in the back of my mind, he isnt going to be the one calling my life for me, he just gets to tell me what to do while I am on the clock.
Just as I thought that a black SUV pulled up, and a husky-looking man stepped out, his black hair and shade made him a mystery.
Is he Leon? *Gulps*
