(Alexia POV)
It's been a month since we completed our bond. But since then, we haven’t seen each other. He had told me how he would be absent for almost 2 months since he had to accompany the king, but I can't help but miss him so much. The days kept dragging by far and harder.
My life in the pack house became even more miserable when I noticed how my father was planning to accept a proposal from a divorced man in his 30s from a wealthy aristocratic family for me. When I refused, I was beaten up and given nothing to eat for an entire day.
In the end, I was forced to meet a man who was more than thrilled to accept me as his bride. I didn't even get a chance to say anything as they decided on everything with the excuse that they were doing it for my good when I knew it was only for the fortune that man owned.
"Madame? Madame?" I snapped out of my thoughts as I looked at the man in front of me. "Are you alright? I have been calling you for some time."
"Sorry. I was busy in my thoughts." I smiled before looking outside.
"This is the place?" I asked as the carriage driver nodded his head.
"Yes. If you walk down the path, you will reach your destination."
"Thank you." I gave him a few gold coins for the ride before getting out. I once again made sure my hood was proper enough to cover my face before walking my way down the stone pathway.
Other than the stress and distress I get from my family, there was another problem I have been facing.
For some reason, I hadn’t been feeling well for the past 2 weeks. I would feel nauseous at certain smells and always felt fatigue. At first I thought it was a side effect of being marked, but none of the books described anything like that.
But then, a part of me had a small feeling. What if...
I looked at the board in front of me. I once again made sure the hood of my cloak was pulled up as I entered the place.
"Name?"
"Ah? Um- Sarah." I lied. Although the woman looked at me with suspicion, she nodded and told me to sit down.
"You're pregnant." It was the first thing the doctor said after I told her my symptoms.
"WHAT! I can't be!"
"Why can't you?" her eyes went to my neck, making me feel conscious. I had put a bandage over it and made up a story of how I scratched my neck. Luckily, no one even in the house cared to even check on it.
"You have n-not even c-checked me. How can you be so sure?"
"You are marked by a werewolf."
"How did you..." I paused as I understood what I got myself into. "You're a witch."
"Yes, I am." she smiled before moving to her desk and scribbling something in her notebook.
"Still, even if I am marked by a werewolf, you can't be sure."
"Trust me, girl. You are pregnant. You emit the sweet smell that is carried by a pregnant woman. Even if you have masked your scent, you still have the aura which I can sense."
I stared at my flat belly, trying to register what had just happened. I couldn’t believe it. I never expected this to happen. I mean we only did it once...
I looked up to see the doctor staring at me, "I guess you came here secretly."
"W-why would you think like that!?"
"Well, for one, you are clearly from a pack. You came to visit a doctor outside the pack. You wear a bandage on your mark and even mask your mate's smell. It almost sounds like a one-night stand."
I blushed at how open-minded she was.
"It-it's not! We are in love. But it's just that we keep it a secret. We will announce everything later!"
"OK, then that is good. Then tell him to take care of your health." She dragged her chair to me before grabbing my hand. I started to feel some kind of warmth as blue light shined lightly around her.
When she let go of my hand, she had a frown.
"You are weak." she said before scribbling something on the notebook. "Tell your marked mate to take extra care of you. You need to eat properly, making sure you get all the nourishment for yourself and the baby. For now, your baby is alright, but if you don't take care of yourself, there will be a lot of complications. I will write a few supplements for you. Take it twice a day and come for your check up 2 weeks later."
When I was out of the clinic, I only stared at the sky, my hands involuntarily covering my stomach.
I am... I am going to be a mother.
A shiver went up my spine as the worst scenarios filled my head.
Everything is going to be messed up so badly. What would happen if my family knew about it? I am sure they will get mad and even make me kill the baby.
And my mate? He told me he is not ready to even announce our relationship yet! How will he handle the news of the baby?
I felt nauseous as fear built inside me.
When I returned home, the sun had already set.
"Where were you!?" I heard my father growl as I turned and looked at him with fear filled eyes.
"I-I..." I couldn’t reply as I moved back. I wanted to cover my belly in a protective way, but I refrained myself. He can easily catch the slightest of moves, so I should be extra careful.
"She probably went around trying to seduce more wealthy men."
By now, I am used to these types of comments. I only looked down silently as the three of them continued to disgrace me. The humiliation ended with no dinner as punishment.
Reaching my room, I slid down the door, pulling my knees to my chest.
"What should I do?"
My whole body felt tired as I kept thinking about it.
"I want this baby, but..." my hand involuntarily went to my stomach, "What should I do?"
____
A week had passed by and my life was getting even more messier. I had morning sickness and I would feel nauseous when I got the smell of a certain food. There is also the part where my so called fiancé wants to take me out for dates because he 'wants' to know me more when, in reality, he is only showing off that he can always get young girls as his wife, no matter what his age is.
My family, on the other hand, was very busy. I can't believe the people who have never been interested in anything concerning me are so excitedly looking forward to the wedding. Yesterday, the wedding planner came in to take the measurements for the wedding dress and it felt s**t. I couldn’t utter a word against this when I was at the risk of getting beaten and losing the baby.
Only a week more before my mate arrives and time is still punishing me by going dead slow. But it gave me the time to make a decision.
I am going to tell my mate that I am pregnant. This is not only mine but his baby's. He has a responsibility in this. Besides, he marked me and said he would love and protect me no matter what happened, so he will always accept me, right?
I shook my head, not wanting to think otherwise.
"Are you OK, sweetheart?" a voice came, making me snap out of my thoughts.
"Yes." my reply was short and one word like always.
"If you have any problem, just tell me. I will make sure everything is solved."
I couldn’t help but cringe at what he was saying.
Currently, I am on my date with Duke Hilton, my chosen fiance. What's worse is that he is going to pick me up some clothes and I don't want to play dressed up in front of him.
The carriage stopped and the door opened before he stepped out.
"My lady." he reached out his hands as if showing he was romantic when I could only think of him as a p*****t. With regret and disgust, I took his hand and stepped down the carriage.
As usual, people around started to gossip about how much of a gold digger b***h I was to marry a man 15 years older than me just for the money.
"Let's go." he said, walking inside while I followed him silently. One thing I find positive in this man is that he is true to his word. When we first went on a date, I made a whole story about how I wished to be untouched until the 'wedding', because I wanted to be 'pure' even by touch when I knew I was far from that.
"Good morning, Duke! Welcome to Clartiosue. I have arranged some latest dresses as you have ordered." one of the staff said, as the latter nodded.
"Then let's start." He then turned to me with a smile. "They will help you dress up. Choose whichever you like. We can even buy everything if it is up to your liking."
I only nodded my head before following the staff, but I paused in my steps as I felt something off. A familiar scent spread around me and I felt like my whole body relaxed. The nauseous feeling and the fatigue felt nonexistent.
"Luka." I whispered before I started to look around.
"Miss, it's this way." the staff said, but I ignored her looking around. My whole body stopped as I saw a familiar brown hair. He was at the bill counter settling the amount.
"It's him." I know it's him! The scent! The way my heart keeps skipping beats!
He is back!
A huge smile made its way to my face.
"Baby! This one too!" a voice rose as my head snapped at a woman who was running towards him. She stopped in front of him with an excited smile, extending a gold necklace.
"OK." Luka said, taking it and giving it to the counter.
She smiled happily as she latched her hands around his arm before shouting. "My fiancé is the best!"
My whole world stopped. No, my whole world shattered. I felt humiliated, betrayed and heartbroken.
He has a fiancé. Someone he will marry.
"Are you alright, Miss Alexia?" a voice came as I looked behind.
The Duke walked towards me, his face filled with concern. I didn't speak. My whole thought went blank and I looked at my mate.
He walked out with his so called fiancé and latched onto him. I ground my teeth, trying to hold in my tear.
"I want to go home." I muttered. To my luck, the Duke understood something was not right.
He didn't ask anything further as he took me home. That night, my family punished me for not being a proper fiancé. They nagged me about how the wedding was very close and that I was not being grateful.
They decided to starve me as punishment. Tomorrow they are going to meet the King who has arrived back in the kingdom because his fiancé has come to visit him and my family wanted to invite him personally.
Will Luka know about the marriage? How will he react? Will he just let me marry him? Will he joke and laugh it off when I call him mate? Will he kill the child in my womb so he doesn't destroy his future family with his fiancé?
My hand formed into a fist as I felt anger building up.
I will never allow him to touch a single hair of my child. That ungrateful cheater!
That night I packed my back. I didn't know where to go, but my legs took me to the only person that I had little hope of helping.
I knocked on the door of the witch doctor's house. Nature even hates me as heavy rain pours in.
"Oh my! It's you." the doctor looked shocked as she invited me inside.
"I want to have this child and I want to live. Please help me."
"I will."
That night I threw away my title as the daughter of Duke Resnold. I became just Alexia, a single mother who seeks shelter. I took the identity as the Doctor's cousin and was accepted into the small pack which is on the northern border of the Kingdom's ignored pack with a promise to raise my child proudly and happily.
