Chapter 8

2005 Words
(Alexia POV) "BOOOO!!!!" a shout came as I opened the door. I screamed loudly, the bread in my hand falling down. "Cassy!" I glared as a 5 year old child jumped up and down clapping happily. "Mummy, you get scared every time." he said, making me sigh and shake my head. No matter how many times he does it, I get scared. I pinched his adorable button nose with a small chuckle. This naughty little man in front of me is none other than my son. Yes, I gave birth to a handsome boy. He has my blue eyes and even though he looks beyond beautiful in them, it shows how he is related to that abusive family of mine. His hair was blond and curly, which confused me since it was either one of our hair colors. When I asked the witch doctor why, she only guessed that it must be because one of my mate's parents may be blond. 6 years have passed since I ran away from my old life. 6 years since I came to know that my mate was just playing with me. Today I live a new life with no one to control me. I have cut all ties with my old life and, with the help of the witch doctor, I was able to settle in a small pack that doesn't judge a person by any means. It's just me and my son and our wonderful time together. "Did you buy the bread, dear?" an elder voice came before a woman in her late 30s walked in wiping her wet hands in the apron she was wearing. "Yes, Glenda. But this little monster made me drop it". I playfully glared at my child as he pouted and took the bread from the ground before extending it to her. "Sowwy." his sorry came out like a cute apology which made the elder woman coo at his behaviour. I rolled my eyes at the clever boy in front of me. I didn't know where he got such an amazing talent, but he knew how to use his charms to get out of trouble. The boy is a known troublemaker in the pack, always going around making some mess or the other. He is the kind of boy who is into adventures, always excited and curious about everything and anything. But no matter how much trouble he causes, he is still the apple of all the people in the village. Even the alpha favors him! My boy's a real charmer. "It's alright, angel." she smiled, taking the bread from him. "How about you help me prepare the sandwich?" Cassy jumped in excitement, taking the elder woman's hand and skipping happily to the kitchen. Glenda was the one who offered to take me in when I had no one. Her husband had died recently and her daughter was mated to a man in a distant pack, leaving her alone in the house. At first, I was given a job in her bakery, but a month later she grew fond of me and asked me to move in. I didn't want to burden her, but I couldn’t afford rent along with medicines to make sure my malnourished body was able to keep the baby healthy. "I will manage the counter." I said to the two who were playing with the dough. The day was busy as always, since Glenda's bread was considered the tastiest in the town. Towards the evening, I put my baby to bed before cleaning up the shop. The bell of the bakery door chimed and a tall pale man walked in with a huge smirk. I froze on the spot as he walked towards me. "You look beautiful today! It's been so long." he grinned, making me take a step back. The man in front of me didn't like my approach as he growled, making me jump in fear. "Wh-what are you doing here?" "Surprised to see me here? After you smartly tried to kick me out of my own pack? Tsk, no matter what happens, I will come back." The person in front of me is none other than the pack's alpha's younger brother, Caleb, who claims that I am his mate. He acts like a kind person and his friendliness caused me to trust him when I had no one. But everything went south when I saw him trying to kill my child, who was only a year old. That day I tried to kick him out of my house. It was then that I saw his true colors. He was a devil in disguise and a psycho. He started to get angry and destroyed everything around us, saying how I am his mate and I got around like a slut sleeping around and getting pregnant. He talked about how he would give me a chance to be in his life if I killed my son. I had no other choice but to complain to the alpha and he was kind enough to transfer him to his uncle's pack. It's been 4 years since then. What is he doing here now? "You look more sexy now." he took a step forward, looking at me up and down in a greedy way. His eyes lingered more on my chest and I involuntarily covered them, moving back. "Mummy..." my child's voice rose as both our heads snapped at him. My eyes widened as Caleb let out a growl. My legs moved on my own as I grabbed my child, pulling him into my arms, tightening my hold. "Alpha Caleb, please leave." I tried to sound strong for my child. He didn't like it, as he growled and took a step toward me. My instinct kicked in as I grabbed a knife that was next to me. I glared at the man growling and pointing at him. "I said leave." The man glared at me for a few seconds. He didn't seem scared of my action and took another step further but stopped as there was a loud blow from a horn. He turned back to the door, giving out an annoyed groan before looking back at me. "This isn't over mate." he said before walking out of the bakery. I slid down the wall, hugging my baby tight. "Mummy, are you ok?" My baby asked worried making me take a deep breath before giving a small smile. "I am fine, baby." "Who was that uncle?" I looked at my curious child for a second before making him stand in front of me. He wiped the tear that had fallen on my cheek and I took his hand in a tight hold. "Cassy, no matter what happens don't go near that uncle, OK? Don't walk to him and if you see him walking your way, turn around and run to Mummy. Can you promise me that?" I reached out my hand as the younger quickly nodded his head and put his hand on top of mine. "I promise." I nodded feeling relieved as I pulled him back into a tight hug. I don't know what that horn was about, but it saved my child and me. I need to go see the alpha. I need to know why he brought him back to the pack. With him around, I can never be safe. When Glenda came home, I explained everything to her. She was beyond angry and wanted to go see the alpha. But when she told me the reason, I felt the blood drain from my body. I thought things wouldn't get any worse than this, but I was very wrong. "The king is coming to visit us! Fortunately, we are blessed with a talented alpha! He was able to convince the king to invest a huge lot in our pack for a knights' school! Isn't that great?! When I was coming back, I saw them! The king was in the carriage, of course, but it was like a parade." "I-I se-see." I faked a smile at her excitement. I was happy that the pack was finally getting the development it deserves, but I couldn’t help but fear the fear in my spine. If the king was coming, then it was sure that he was coming. He was the king's cousin and he was elected as one of the king's two viziers. "I want to see the king! I want to see it!" I looked at Cassy, who was jumping in excitement. "Tomorrow, he is going to come in public and give out the inauguration blessing to build the school. Everyone is invited!" My child turned to me with wide excited eyes, "Mommy! Can we go? Can we go and see the king?" I didn't know what to say to him. Of course I don't want to go. I don't want to see him again, but I can't say no to my child for no reason. I can't say, 'hey you can't go because your father will be there too'. I can't do that. "O-of course we can." I mumbled, making him jump in happiness. Just then the door bell chimed and a man, tall and muscular, walked in, looking around. "Good evening! I heard you have the best of bread here." "Of course we do." Glenda went professional as she walked to the gentleman, welcoming him. As she showed him around, I went to the counter with my child and made him sit on his chair. "Don't cause trouble." I warned him before going to the bread section. "I haven’t seen you around here, Sir." Glenda smiled as the latter nodded his head. "Oh yes. I am from the capital. My name is Harry. I am the king's 2nd Vizier." My head snapped towards him faster than ever. My eyes were wide as I stared at him with shock. "Second Vizier?" His eyes went to me, as he nodded his head, "Yes, miss." But that was impossible. Shouldn't Luka be the second vizier along with that fairy protector, Daren, who accompanied the king last time for the mission? "Then what about Sir Daren and Sir Luka?" The man raised his eyebrows at me suspiciously, "Sir Daren is also the Vizier, but who is this Sir Luka?" "Um, the king's cousin?" I should have said that. The face of the man in front of me turned even more suspicious at my question. "I have lived beside the king long enough to assure you that he has no cousin named Luka, Miss. Where did you get that information?" My head hurt and I felt my heart stop for a moment. The king doesn't have a cousin named Luka? Then... Who? "I am sorry. I guess this proves that rumors are not always true." I laughed it off before walking to the counter. I looked at my baby who was presently busy coloring. After some time, the man approached me for the p*****t. I avoided his gaze as I calculated his total. He, on the other hand, kept staring at me. "You look a bit familiar. Have you been to the capital?" he said as I looked up at him. "That is not possible. I have lived here all my life." I lied before giving him the cover. "That will be 20 coins." I was relieved when he didn't say anything else. "Glenda, I am feeling a bit unwell. Will you be able to close the shop?" I asked as soon as the man left the shop. She looked at me worried but didn't ask anything else as she nodded. "Go take some rest." Not even wasting a single moment, I took my baby in my hand and walked into the house through the bakery's back door. Everything was a lie. Every single thing. Not a single thing he said was true. My hand formed into a fist as I ground my teeth. That f*****g liar. I hate him so much. I hate myself for being so gullible and trusting him.
