Your kind

Rosalie "What did she say?" he asked shaking his head in anger. "I don't know what's going on between the two of you but I would rather not get involved, I told you last night I was fine to sleep with the others I didn't have to be here, this is all on you! I'm not going to be called names and told I have to watch my back around here all because you two have had some lovers spat " I could tell it hit a nerve as I watched the muscles in his jaw begin clenching the more I spoke. "I think you know very well why she came here, I would be pretty pissed too if I was kicked out of my bed and replaced" He scoffed at my words laughing to himself, "You really don't care do you" I shouted. "None of you Lycans will ever know how it feels to be us, that woman has lost babies, your babies, and this is how you repay her." I knew it, I had gone too far, his eyes darkened and he came towards me at lightning speed taking a firm grip on my neck. I pawed at his hand as I began gasping for air but he never budged, leaning into me he bared his teeth. "Don't ever speak on matters you know nothing about" he seethed before releasing his hold on me. I gasped for air as I fell back against the bed holding onto my neck as I desperately tried to refill my lungs with oxygen. "Why is it you are quick to judge my kind?" he said in an angry tone. I looked back at him, was he really this clueless? "Because it is your kind that dealt me the s**t life I've been living all these years, you took my family from me, I've been beaten, teased, tortured, starved groped, three times I've had to fight your kind just because I didn't want to be raped. Tell me, when has your kind ever done anything to help us humans?" I threw back at him as I fought with myself to hold back the tears. He lunged forward and took a hold of my wrist pulling me off the bed, "What are you doing?" I panicked as he pulled me across the room and out the bedroom door. "You want to see what I do for your kind, for someone who has lived a s**t life as you say, you are all too quick to judge others" He growled. I tried to keep his pace as he pulled me down the stairs. Stumbling as he pulled me quicker than my legs could carry me, I tripped but he managed to raise my arm stopping me from face-planting the floor but that didn't stop him. He continued on his march down the stairs until we reached the ground floor. I saw people standing around watching me like I was some kind of circus freak, the only face I knew was Paxton. He looked just as shocked as all the others, "Bring Enola to my office now!" the King shouted to Paxton who nodded and began moving straight away. I was taken down a quiet corridor to a large door, we didn't stop, the king pushed open the door and pulled me inside the room. He pulled out one of the chairs that were near a large desk and pushed me down into it, I gasped as I took hold of my wrist rubbing it roughly trying to make the pain go away. He walked around the desk and leaned down opening the drawer pulling out a stack of small brown folders and slamming them down on the desk in front of me. "You want to know about the disgusting way I treat your kind" he opened the first folder and pointed to the picture of a young girl, I recognised her from the Auction house last night, "Isabelle, nine years old, came here with nothing" he turned the page, "This morning Paxton and myself registered her into the local school booked her vaccines and found her a family to live with, this i***t here" he pointed to himself "Is paying for all of that including a five-star education and college" He closed the folder and slid it across the desk opening the next one. "Shannon, 24 years, came here with several injuries that we were unaware of, she is currently receiving treatment in the hospital, when she is well enough to leave she is continuing her training as a midwife and will be offered a place within the hospital" As he reached for the next folder I looked up at his face, I could see he was very passionate about this. "Sidney, forty-four years old, she has bad arthritis in both her hands, she has been given medication and a place to live where she no longer has to get up at the crack of dawn to scrub floors." "Ok, I get it!" I shouted cutting him off and slamming my good hand down on the next file he was about to open. He looked up at me, still breathing heavily from the anger he was feeling, he gathered the folders and stuffed them back in the drawer then sat back in his chair, his eyes closed while he rubbed his forehead with his left hand, he looked tired. "I don't get it if you do all of that why isn't every pack like this towards humans, your king, the only person that can make that happen," I asked keeping a monotone in the hope he wouldn't be angered by it. He dropped his hand back on the arm of his chair and looked at me for a second. "It doesn't matter if I'm king, some packs have traditions that go back hundreds of years, this is their way of life. They would rather take punishment than treat a human as their equal." I could see this was something he was quite passionate about, what made him feel for the humans? "I'm sorry that I judged you" It had been a long time since I had apologised to anyone. "Yeah well, your about to be judged some more so don't go all soppy just yet," he said as he looked up at the door. Paxton walked in the room with Enola. She had a gleaming smile on her face as she walked in looking across at the king, "Sit" he pointed at the chair beside me. She looked my way and the smile melted away almost instantly. Paxton stood by the window across the room from us, "What is this about?" Enola asked as she pulled her chair away from me and sat down crossing her legs. "Enola, how about you enlighten me on what happened in my room this morning," The king asked as he shifted in his seat. She looked at me scrunching her nose up in disgust, "I simply went to introduce myself to your guest babe, nothing else" He looked across at me "I see" he leaned forward resting his elbows on the desk looking between the two of us. "Let me get one thing straight while your both here so I don't have to repeat myself then, that way there are no crossed wires. It is up to me who I have in my room, It is up to me who I share a bed with. I am in no way tied to one woman. Enola, have I ever given you the impression I want anything serious from you?" She cleared her throat and looked around the room, "No" she answered in barely a whisper. He slammed his hand down onto the desk "So why the f**k do you think it's acceptable to threaten the guest I have staying in my room" his voice boomed. "I'm sorry, I'm just a little emotional about the baby, it's barely been two months, I just didn't want to lose you too" She began to cry. "I've done what I can about that, I don't know what else you expect me to do" he said in frustration. Enola wiped the tears from her cheek and looked at me, " why is she here, staying in your room, you never allow that why is she different" Enola began shouting in frustration. "She is here because I asked her to be here" he shouted back at her. "Your going to try and have a child with her aren't you, just admit it" she covered her mouth with her hand as she began to cry harder. He took a deep breath and nodded to Pax as he leaned back in his seat rubbing his chin. "Come on, time to go," Pax said as he pulled Enola up by her arm. She began to look panicked as she looked between me and the king still sitting here in silence. "I'll never forgive you if you do this to me, I will kill her before she has your child" Enola began screaming as she was escorted out. The king stood from his seat "I'll pretend you didn't say that, go calm down in your room" he ordered. Pax closed the door and left me and the king in the room alone, "Now you see, there is nothing between us, the children we lost were something that neither of us could have avoided, If I could change what happened I would but the fact is I can't" "Is what she said right? is that why I'm here?" I asked him outright. He took a deep breath and got up from his seat walking to a small table across the room. He got two glasses and a small decanter filled with brown Liquid. As he placed them down on the desk he began to pour a small amount into each glass. "Here, I like to have a drink over negotiations," He said as he slid the glass across to me. I picked up the glass and inhaled the strange smell, "I've never had alchol before" I said as I put the glass to my lips and took a mouthful of the burning liquid. The king smiled as I pulled a funny face at the strange taste in my mouth. "You get used to it" "I wouldn't be too sure about that" I breathed out heavily trying to rid the taste in my mouth. I placed the glass back on the table and looked across at him, "So what are we negotiating?" I asked him in a more serious tone. He looked down at his glass and then downed the liquid in one go, placing the glass back on the table he began to refill it. "It is no secret around here that I would like a child of my own, someone to take the thrown one day so I can retire and not have to worry about pack business. Because I have a stronger Lycan gene than normal Lycans it takes a strong woman to be compatible with me to carry my offspring. Enola and one other before her many years ago were women I felt I could trust enough to carry out this duty, both failed through no fault of their own It's just the way things are." "And you want me to try carry a child for you?" I asked knowing where the conversation was heading. "I would make sure you were well cared for, and provide for you for the rest of your life, would that be something you would consider?" He asked. I felt a strange sensation deep inside of me as he asked me the question, "I won't have my dignity taken from me to then have my own child taken from me" I said thinking of my own heartbreak as I remembered when I was taken from my parents. "The child will never be taken from you, I believe a child should have both it's parents there for guidance, you will always play a vital role in his life" He looked sincere, did he really mean that? I have seen women give birth and the child be taken away before the afterbirth is even out of them. "I never wanted to end up like this, having a baby should be something that happens when you love each other, it shouldn't be a business deal" "I agree, but in my world, it is not that easy" "Have you never loved before?" I asked. He shrugged his shoulders as he thought about it for a moment, "I've cared for women in the past but I can't say I've ever loved anyof them" "Wouldn't you want to wait to find a woman you could love to have a child with?" "I'm afraid if that was the case it may never happen, I don't get attached to people too easily, at least this way at least it can be done without getting tangled up in feelings," he said honestly. "Can I ask one more thing?" I asked him wanting to know the one thing I've been asking myself. "Of course" he nodded. "Why me?"
