My angel!
Ryker was also howling in delight with the sight of our mate’s beauty as I stayed hidden, still staring at her as she continued to move around with ease. Even in her simple clothes, she managed to look magnificent.
Her dark eyes, framed with thick lashes and brows seem to speak a thousand words. I could drown in them. It’s too far from those two hollow holes the woman in my dream has. I should believe my beast now, that’s nothing but a figment of my hyperactive imagination.
She walked away with the vessel in her hands. I followed her with my gaze. The sway of her hips while she moves is hypnotizing me. But I suddenly snapped back to reality when I saw her pulling a bucket from the water well. Her small, fragile body would seem to break as she did it.
“What is she doing?” Ryker growled and once again he wanted to take control.
“She shouldn’t be doing heavy chores Lucas. You should help her!”
“I can’t.” I whispered weakly even though I really wanted to run to her.
I feel so torn at the moment. I was supposed to protect her but what can I do?
“What do you mean you can’t?” his voice rumbling in my head.
“What do you want me to do? Just go to her and announce that she is my mate?” my head is in a huge conflict. I wanted to run to her, to help her but there are so many things going inside my mind now that stops me from doing so.
“Of course! What else should you do?” he was getting more impatient by the minute and it’s getting harder for me to stay in control.
“I have to figure this out first before I can show myself to her.” It was hurting me to watch her struggle as she went back to the plots carrying the vessel filled with water.
“Let me do the job then, you coward!”
“Stop, let me handle this.” Then I forced him to stay inside.
Our mate can’t see him now. Being a human, she definitely has no idea about creatures like us. Seeing my Lycan beast won’t do any help. It can do more harm than good.
I tried to assess the situation, maybe I can somewhat help her without revealing myself. The water well is about twenty meters from the vegetation. It’s far enough for her not to notice me.
Using my speed, I went there and pulled the bucket from the well. There are several vessels on the side so I filled them all with water. It only took me a few seconds to do so.
When I glanced back at her, she’s still busy watering the other plots. Is she going to water all these plants here by herself? Is she crazy? How can her frail body handle all of that?
I hid myself behind the well and try to identify which parts still needed watering. They are the parts that are farther from the well. It will be harder to carry these vessels to those plots. I picked up two of them in my arms with ease. Then I swiftly went to those parts while hiding.
I carefully laid down one of the vessels on a part where she could see it easily. Then I ran to another part using my Lycan speed. I did the same with the remaining vessels and when I got satisfied, I went to a safe distance from her and watched.
“That’s it?” Ryker snapped, I can see his mocking expression in my head.
“That will do for now.” I hissed back. I am trying my best here and he can’t understand that.
“You should just take her to our kingdom. There she doesn’t even need to lift a finger. She will be a princess and everyone will do as she please.” He ranted but I refuse to listen.
“Why can’t you understand that it won’t be that easy?” I’m getting more impatient with him. He just won’t accept reasons.
“And why will it be that hard?”
“You’re seriously asking? She’s a human!”
“I know that she’s a human but how can it be a reason for her not to come with us? She is our mate!”
I didn’t answer and just turned my attention back to her. What could be her name? I want to know what to call her.
She was about to go back to the well to fetch more water so I picked up a stone and threw it to the part where one of the filled vessels were. It made a sound but it was too faint for her to hear so I picked up another stone and aimed at the container so it will make a clearer sound.
I was right, her head snapped at that direction when the stone hit the vessel with a thud. The vessel can easily be seen and she walked up to it. She has a puzzled look on her face while she looked around. Maybe trying to figure out how the vessel ended up there, with that, she saw the other ones scattered around the whole plantation.
She carefully walked to the other vessels while still looking around. She looked inside and scratched her cute little head when she found that it’s also filled with water. After a few more minutes of wondering, she finally went on with her task.
“This will do for now while I’m still trying to figure out what to do.”
“I can’t believe you!”
“Please try to see some reason! We have to head back now before it gets dark.” He growled in disapproval but I didn’t mind him.
Without his permission, I started running back to the direction of the portal.
*****
“Amarah!”
I heard Yanessa yelling my name from inside the house but I didn’t bother to answer her. I was hanging the clothes that I washed on the backyard. For sure, she will just give me something to do so I chose to ignore her.
“Are you deaf?!” I almost jumped when I heard her scream just behind me.
“Oh what’s the matter?” I asked while I continue to hang the wet clothes.
“I’ve been calling you and you’re just ignoring me!” she even stomped her foot.
She looks like a toddler throwing a tantrum.
“I’m sorry I was busy. I didn’t hear you.”
“You didn’t hear?!” she shouted before snatching a piece of cloth on my hand and threw it on the ground.
Great! Now I have to wash that again.
“I didn’t. Now why are you calling me?” I didn’t want to push her more because it will only backfire on me. I may end up washing all these clothes all over again.
“I can’t find my favorite dress. I need it, I have a date tonight!” she screamed and I almost rolled my eyes. Just now, I feel pity for the unlucky guy already.
“I’m sure it’s just in your closet.” I calmly said.
“Then go look for it! What are you still waiting for?!” she snapped and I had to really hold my anger.
I took in a deep breath before I went inside the house to look for her god forsaken dress! Ugh Do I really have to do everything around here?
I opened her closet and my blood boiled! It was just there. Anyone with a pair of eyes can see it immediately once you open the closet door. Is she blind or insane? I huffed before I pulled it and threw it on her bed.
“Did you find it?” she asked as she went inside the bedroom.
“Yes, it’s just here. Do you need something else?” I asked, my voice laced with sarcasm.
“No, I’m good!” she grinned and it only made me angrier.
She’s crazy. I wonder how we are blood related. We’re so different from each other. And I don’t want to be like her in any way. I just went back to what I was doing before she rudely interrupted me.
I thought I can do my chore in silence now but I saw my Uncle there. He seems to be waiting for me. What does he want now?
“Amarah! Why are the crops still dry? Are you stupid? Do you want them to wither?” he scolded when he saw me coming. He was eyeing me while I was walking. It made me uncomfortable.
“Sorry Uncle, Aunt Delilah said that I needed to do the laundry immediately. I will tend to the crops right after this.”
“Then you better make it fast!” he ordered before walking away.
He is a grown, well-abled man with a big body, why can’t he water the crops himself?
I am itching to ask him that but for sure he will just beat me for talking back. It’s not worth it so I will just follow them like a good slave to avoid getting hurt. It’s like all the fight in me is gone now.
When I was a little younger, I used to talk back and to fight for my right but what can I do against the three of them? So since I can’t leave this house, I will just try to make my life a little easier because no one will do it for me.
After I finished my laundry I went straight to the deep well to fetch some water.
I struggled to walk to the crops while carrying a water-filled vessel in my arms. Then I started to water them gently. There are different crops planted on the plots here. There are carrots, tomatoes, paprika, eggplant and more. I need to water them all by myself.
The muscles in my arms are already painful from doing a pile of laundry and now I still have to carry water. I wonder how I haven’t grown muscles through the years of doing this.
When I ran out of water from the vessel, I went back to the well to fetch some more. I threw the bucket down into the well then pulled it up. I used my body weight to be able to yank it up. Then I poured the water from the bucket to the vessel and I have to do it one more time to be able to fill the whole vessel.
After it was full, I have to carry it back to the crops. I can feel my whole body protesting from all the work that I’ve done today. My legs are trembling and I don’t know if I will be able to finish this. When I was about to get back to the well to get more water again, I heard a clank behind me.
I turned to check what caused it and my forehead frowned upon seeing a vessel near the tomatoes.
“Huh? Why is it there?” I wondered and looked around to see if my Uncle came to help me.
But I didn’t see him and it’s also impossible to happen. I went near the vessel to check if it has water and I was surprised to see that it was filled to the brim. I looked around again to see who might have done it but instead I saw several vessels in different plots. I guess they are all filled with water.
I went to check each one of them and I was right. But who could have done it? I was alone here and I didn’t even notice when these vessels are placed here.
“That’s weird.” I scratched my head while still looking for the Good Samaritan who helped me but really, I was all alone.
Could it be a ghost? Mom? Dad?
I decided to just go on with watering the vegetables before it gets dark. My energy seemed renewed after knowing that I don’t have to carry the water anymore. It really made everything so much easier for me.
“Thank you, whoever you are…” I whispered to the wind with a smile on my face…
