“Oh my! So you like a man? That’s great! And you met him only once? It means it is love at first sight! How romantic~”
“...” ‘What is so great about liking a man? What is romantic about ‘love at first sight’?’ William did not understand the thoughts of a young woman.
“Anyway I don’t think this is called love at first sight. At most it could be ‘like at first sight’, right?” He asked in confusion.
Though he did not fall in love with someone before, he was sure that the feelings in love were supposed to be deeper than what he was feeling for Oliver at this moment.
Since he did not feel such deep feelings, then should he just call these feelings with a name with simpler feelings like ‘like’?
He thought that he reasoned well and even felt quite satisfied with himself.
Yes, he just likes that weird man at most. There is no way he would fall in love with him.
“...” For the first time since they met, Samantha went speechless by William’s words.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” William did not understand which words of his could make such a chatterbox woman go speechless.
Should he commend himself for this great achievement?
“Hey! Are you really serious?” Samantha asked him wide-eyed.
“What do you mean?” William did not understand what Samantha was gushing about.
Samantha blinked her eyes and decided to not to explain about the concept of love at first sight to this cold and steel-like man here.
Sometimes it is better for one to go through the process of falling in love to understand its meaning instead of someone else explaining about it.
Hence she calmed down and shook her head, “It’s nothing. Let’s talk about it later. Anyway, tell me more about him. How did that man steal your heart in a single meeting?”
William did not know if he should share the details with her or not but after recalling that she is not the type to leave him alone without extracting every single detail from him, he decided to spill a few details himself.
He recounted his encounter with Oliver and how he saved him. He also said how he acted frivolously with him but of course opted out a few small details like how he had been a bit too close to him and how he talked to him about nicknames and other stuff.
Yet, the details that he had just spilled were enough for Samantha to start fangirling as she screamed about how that man was so romantic and stuff.
“It really looks like fate. Anyway, I am sure that you both will meet each other again. If he is really in your fate then the Moon Goddess would definitely bring you two closer,” Samantha declared while her eyes were still sparkling.
William really did not understand why she was this excited hearing about a man acting frivolous with him.
But he did not dare to speak his thoughts out loud. He just sighed and looked around to find it was already getting dark.
“Okay, I think we don’t have much time. Let us now talk about your plan. Let us not waste anymore time,” he said directly.
Samantha once again became serious and she did not refute about having a plan. Instead she looked directly into his eyes and announced two words, “Contract engagement.”
“Contract engagement?” William asked in confusion.
She nodded her head, “Mhmm, Contract engagement.”
“What do you mean?”
“Exactly as it sounds. We will have a contract engagement with each other.” She explained.
“Tell me more about it,” he had never heard anything about contract engagement before. But he could already understand the gist about what she was talking about from the terms.
“Just like in any other contract, our contract will have two parties, two goals and terms and conditions. Of course we both will be the two parties. We will set up our goals and once they come to an end we will cancel our engagement without having any entanglement with each other. No fights, no cries and no promises. Only getting rid of the engagement at the end. No strings attached.”
William listened to her words seriously and thought for a while. His lips were drawn into a thin line as he considered all the pros and cons about the ‘contract engagement’ Samantha just mentioned.
Just as she explained, he didn’t find many cons to this concept and was already inclined to talk more about it.
Seeing that he loosened his lips slightly, Samantha understood that he was almost convinced by the concept she detailed and gave a smile.
She continued, “We both don’t want to get engaged. But sadly for us, we both need this engagement for one reason or the other. But I don’t think it would matter if we get engaged and get what we each needed from this engagement and then get rid of it. Don’t you think so?”
William nodded his head, “But why do we need a contract? We can do it that way anyway.”
Samantha sighed and took a seat on the rock once again, “Come on. Don’t tell me that you don’t understand why we need a contract. How can we trust each other into getting into this engagement if there is no security to get out of it later?
“Say, we are not robots. We have hearts and hearts waver. It may be because of money. It may be because of power. It may be because of greed. Whatever the reason may be, the heart would waver.”
She then looked seriously at him and asked, “How long do we know each other for?”
