“No.” Evelyn said as she slammed the book shut in her hands and pulled it away from the man so that he couldn’t touch it.
“Why not?” Evan asked as he turned to the woman. “I just want to read it, not like I’m going to make fun of you for it or anything.” He said as he tried to get the book again but the woman pulled it away again.
“You’ll dirty it.” Evelyn said as she put her book back into her backpack and zipped it up quickly.
“I will not…” Evan said in a saddened tone as he backed away. “When have I ruined your books before?” He asked her with a bit of an offended sounding voice. Almost like the woman was framing him for murder and he was desperately trying to defend himself but to not avail.
