Chapter 2: Help Me (2)

“Um… al-alright…” Evelyn stuttered a bit but she agreed. Maybe it was one of her bad qualities but she was the type to be easily persuaded into things, especially when it came to the people she loved like her parents. She wasn’t able to refuse when it came to chores or studies and small favors… in a sense you could say she was a bit of a push over to put it more bluntly.
“Really honey?! That’s amazing, I’ll let them know right away you agreed.” The mother said as she went off in the other room, her husband following after her like a puppy.
Evelyn stood there for a bit confused by the entire ordeal.
“Why’d you agree? You obviously don’t want to go…” Evan came down the stairs, he’d overheard the entire conversation and went to speak with her to clear things up.
“I… I couldn’t refuse since both of them looked so excited… I guess they were just worried about me…” Evelyn said as she looked down at her hands, she was fidgeting a bit with her fingers.
“I can tell them you don’t want to go. I’m sure they’ll understand.” Evan suggested, he cared for his sister and the last thing he wanted was for her to go and have a horrible date with a strange guy she doesn’t even like or know off.
“No… They’ll be disappointed…” Evelyn remarked, the color finally returning to her face at that moment as if her blood flow had stopped and then started back again. “Maybe… there’s a way I can get around it… Like if I tell him I’m not interested he’ll…”
“You and I both know you’re not going to be able to reject him properly. It’s best if you don’t go there at all…” Evan said as he went to sit on the couch next to his sister. “There’s no point in leaning the guy on, after all…”
“Yeah… you’re right so… Could you go to the date instead of me?” Evelyn asked with a sweet yet quiet voice as she turned to her identical twin with pleading eyes.
Evan simply snapped his fingers in front of the woman’s face and tilted his head to the side. “Are you dreaming or something?” He asked with a very serious expression.
“Please listen… If you go there pretending to be me… Then you can reject him in your own way and I’ll be rid of him, mom and dad won’t be disappointed since I’ve went to the date and-” Evelyn was harshly interrupted by her brother.
“And again… Are you dreaming? In what world would I be able to pass off as you? And no… that isn’t even the issue… I don’t want to go on a date with that guy any more than you do!” Evan said as he tried to stand up from the couch but his sister pulled him back down.
“Please… help me just this once and I’ll do your chores for a week.” Evelyn said as she let go of her brother and stared at him expectedly.
“And… I just have to reject him right?” Suddenly Evan seemed more interested in the idea. He hated doing chores more than anything else in the world. If he could avoid doing mundane things he’d happily do this favor for his sister.
“Yep! Just let him down, in whatever way you wish so that he won’t contact me again.” Evelyn said as she smiled at her brother and hugged him. “You really are the best bro in the world!”
“Yeah… yeah…” Evan said as he held back the urge to face palm. ‘She ended up sweeping me into this anyways…’ He thought to himself as both the siblings went back to the sister’s room to hatch the plan…

This wouldn’t be the first time the two of them had switched places… Although they had done it before when they were much younger and it was more difficult for them to be recognized as individuals. On occasion they would pretend to be the other if need be…
If one of them needed to sneak out to be at a party (Evan) or other occasions… It was mostly Evelyn who dressed up as Evan and just slept in his room while the other sneaked out without their parents knowing. But this time it would be the opposite…
“It’s a good thing I have a wig that’s styled just like my hair.” Evelyn said as she opened up a sip locked back and took out a long light brown wig. Evelyn cosplayed on occasion so she had quite a few wigs in her possession, among which one was styled as her brother’s hairstyle and one was her own.
“Eh… I don’t remember how long ago it was that I pretended to be you…” Evan remarked as he looked at the wig that was rather familiar to him. Both of them were people that didn’t change their style with years, the way they styled their hair too was the same for the past three years or so, so this wig although old was still a perfect copy of Evelyn’s style.
“I don’t either… no wait… wasn’t it for the award ceremony that you went in my place?” Evelyn said as if a memory had bubbled up from deep inside her brain.
About a year and a half ago Evelyn was to be awarded a prize for being the top student in the country. It was a huge occasion and the crowd that had gathered was even bigger. If it was something smaller Evelyn wouldn’t have minded receiving the award herself. But being in front of thousands of onlookers and a TV crew following her every move, made her unbelievably nervous. Thus she had asked her brother to go there in her stead and take the prize.
“Now I remember, it was a pretty fun time actually. You have no idea how many dudes hit on me that day…” Evan remarked as he leaned back in the chair he was sitting. “I kind of liked the attention to be honest.”
“How long do you plan on being in the closet anyways?” Evelyn asked in a gentle voice, she was speaking much more confidently and calmly than before. She was straight and her brother was gay but he didn’t tell anyone about it yet, not even their parents…
