Farrell's POV
It is a mixed feeling watching the gates and walls come down. All my life I have seen walls and gates so high that no big ladder could make people even reach a quarter way to the top of the wall.
Spells were casted over the boundaries so no one who flew over the walls could see what's inside. From above, anyone or anything could only see barren lands. Not a pack.
The woods seem so different on the other side. My mother told me the world is the same but just a little more cruel that I know.
But what if I am crueler than the world?
Sometimes I feel that in me. The small spot of pure darkness. Asking me to kill anyone who I wish. But I learnt to suppress it thanks to Meghan. The pack's witch and one of my good friends.
She had no one and I never asked what happened to her family. But she lives with us is what I know.
I looked around and couldn't find her. So I resumed to watching the gates being brought down.
"Happy Birthday again," I hear Sebastian whisper and I nod at him.
"Meghan's batch of muffins got burnt while she was getting ready for the party. So she is still at the pack house baking fresh ones," he says.
Oh so that is why she isn't here, I suppose.
"Good. And from now on, the walls are staying this way. Visitors will be allowed. People can walk back and forth into the borders. Trading is allowed. Meeting your friends and family who live outside the pack is allowed. The gates will never be shut anymore," I say.
And for a few seconds there is silence everywhere until they all finally begin to cheer. I wonder how many have their families outside the borders. They might be missing them and I could do nothing about it.
Mom stands by my side as she watches the borders. Her eyes held fear. It is clear that she is worried about what might happen to her son now that he is making his own decisions.
"Three days from now, is the party that we will be hosting. Beta Sebastian," I call for him and he stands before me.
"Send out invitations to Alphas from all the packs. They can bring their Lunas if they wish. And their daughters, if they want. But tell them that their presence will be appreciated. And that there will be a new set of rules that we'd redefine now that the gates are down," I tell him and he nods, bowing down to me and leaving the grounds.
"Now is the time you lot can enjoy and have fun. But remember, three days from now is going to be the biggest party we'll ever host," I tell them and they all bow to me before rushing off to the birthday party we were supposed to celebrate today.
And in between the crowd, I see her. Meghan. She is walking towards me with a bag that I know are the cherry muffins that I always loved. She learnt how to bake them from my mother just so she can bake them on my birthday every year.
I smile at her. Her strawberry blonde hair dancing to the wind. Her face has a smile on it. Her pale green dress made her bright blue eyes pop.
"Are you going to wed her?" Mom whispers in my ear but I don't answer her, as I look at Meghan.
I wish to find a mate for sure. But what if I can't find one? What if mine won't like me? What if she is too afraid of me to even accept me?
I look at Meghan again. She knows me. She isn't afraid of me. She is a witch so she won't have a mate.
Maybe if I don't find my mate, then I'd wed her.
