Chapter 3-2

2136 Words

I refrain from saying we’re practically already living together and instead grin at him. “Is that so?” The relief makes me feel so light, I fear I’ll float to the sky. “Mhm.” He waggles his eyebrows. I burst out laughing. “Go back to the others. I’ll wait for a couple minutes, then I’ll join you.” I shoo him with my hands. “Hurry. I’ll miss you.” He kisses his index and middle finger and presses them against my lips. Then he turns and walks back to the party. I look over the stupid perfect lake for a few more minutes—at least no gilded water lilies float in it—my heart galloping and a wide, sunny smile on my face. Forgotten are the tears and the overwhelming feeling of despair. Funny how life can seem so bleak and hopeless one moment only to be filled with happiness just minutes later.
