Chapter 3: Escape
For the next few days Adam spent his time either alone or with River Boy. Together they would bathe and talk, and in those times Adam learnt a lot about the villagers, their way of life and also about the Great Cloud. However, it was the time spent alone that Adam truly valued. It gave him time to think, time to absorb all that River Boy told him. He’d wander off into the jungle, occasionally going back to the grasslands where he had first encountered Lord Bear and the lions. Sometimes he’d even gaze across the tall grass to the spot where he’d last seen Jason and wished they’d never returned to Earth. If they’d stayed on Genesis, Jason would be alive and they’d be living with people he understood—civilised, educated people.
