Chapter 4

Leanne

It’s almost five in the afternoon when Kuya Theo and I arrived in Lucas’s house. We found Lucas busy watching movies in his living room. I left Kuya Theo there and went inside the room I’m occupying.

As I entered the room, I thought of having a quick shower even though I was in a hurry. 

I did it quickly. I don’t want to make my brother wait for me for too long. While I'm applying for light make-up, I remembered that I don’t have a gift for mom. I didn't prepare anything because I did not expect these to happen.

I heaved a deep sigh. I think I’m going to ask Kuya Theo to stop by a near mall while we’re on the way.

After looking at myself in the mirror, I went out of the room. I found them talking. I didn’t hear what they were talking about but I think it about Kuya's divorce. 

"You're done?" Kuya Theo asks when he saw me walking towards them. 

I nod at him. "Yeah". I looked at Lucas "you okay here alone?" Asking him. 

He smirks "Of course. In case you don’t remember. I'm living here alone until your lazy ass came here. I was enjoying being alone." He uttered

I rolled my eyes at him "if you want to be alone. Why you let me stay here in your penthouse in the first place, instead of letting me stay in a hotel. After all, that’s the first plan" 

He shrugged his shoulder "you know why" he said and look away.

"I don’t know. Tell me." teasing me. I know why. I just want to tease him. 

He groaned before answering me. "Nothing." after he said it he made me turned around. He did the same with my brother. "Just go! Go wherever you two are going." He added.

I hissed. " You don’t need to push us out of your house Lucas."

"Yeah! Yeah! Just go! You call me if you're on the way back here. You take care, the both of you." 

I just nodded my head.

Kuya Theo and I quiet inside his car as he was driving. No one spoke, we were like that for about twenty minutes before I broke the silence because I remember something.

I cleared my throat. "Uhm! Can I ask you a favor? We’re not in a hurry, right?" I asked

He looked at me for a moment and turned back at the road. “Yes, we’re not. Why? Do you want to go somewhere before we go straight to our house? Just tell me baby sis." He said. I also saw the smile on his lips as he spoke.

My cheek flushed hearing him calling me that way. That was his endearment to me when we were still a child. But it's been a long time since I heard that. So, when he called me that way while we were at the restaurant earlier, I was shocked. I miss it, like how I miss him too but I can't say it, maybe because, I have doubts that I'm not part of their world now. 

I sighed and looked at him, while he is still facing the road. "Can we stop at the nearest mall here. I just want to buy a gift for m-mom. I don't want to come there empty-handed... Sorry, I didn't even expect this to happen. That’s why I unprepared." 

He shook his head. "I understand and don't worry. Mom already told me and Brent to not prepare her anything for her birthday but I know you’re the gift that she will be able to resist...." he turned to me when the traffic sign stop. "But of course, You're not only a gift for mom., it’s also for dad, brent and to me also."

I don’t know what to say, it made me more nervous because of what he said. "I see...." I bit my lip. "Is it really okay that you're going to take me there?" I asked. I wanted to get rid of the doubt in my mind that they might be angry if he would take me there.

"Of course! Don’t think anything bad about it. I know mom and dad will be happy to see again. Especially, Brent, he misses you a lot." His tone became sad at the end.

I just nodded my head.

I remembered the last time a saw Brent. He was only ten when I last saw him and it’s been eleven years since I runaway.

It’s already evening when we arrived in front of their house. I don’t know if I can still call it ‘our house’. 

Kuya Theo was smiling as he steps out of his car. He immediately went in front of the passenger seat and help me to get out the car too. I remember, he always does this before. 

As we entered the house, those inside saw us immediately. They all are the loyal servers that working in this house for a long time. I saw the astonishment look in their eyes when they were looking at me and soon after that they smile.

Kuya Theo walk closer to one of them. "Where’s mom and dad?" he asks.

"They were in the garden Sir Theo" She answered and glance back to me. "Welcome back Miss Leanne." Happiness is evident in her voice.

I smiled at her. "thank you!" and we start to walk again.

As we walked into the garden, I stopped walking when I heard a familiar voice

When I heard his voice, it makes me miss him more. 

I looked at the owner of that voice and his face is beaming in happiness when he saw me.

My baby brother Brent.

"Ate Leanne" Brent called and walk towards me.

(A/N: Ate is a Tagalog word for big sister)

"Baby bro!" I called him too. My eyes start to get blurry.

I can’t stop my tears to fall down when he pulled me into a hug.

"I miss you so much Ate." He whispers and his hug became more tightly.

"I miss you more Brent. I miss you so much, my baby bro." 

I felt someone else hugging me too. I looked at it and saw that it was my older brother.

"it’s not fair, you miss him but it looks like you don’t miss me too. We we’re together since this afternoon and I didn’t even get a chance to hug you. That’s why I’m going to join you both. You don’t know how much I miss you."

I chuckled while there still tears falling from my eyes. "I miss you too Kuya" I kissed his cheek. 

I looked around and saw everyone looking at us with tears in their eyes as well. Even then, there was still a smile on their face.

After a while we break from our hug, I wipe my tears and stared at Brent's face.

I gently caress his face. "You've grown up so well, so handsome. You're not a baby anymore. I’m sure you have a girlfriend now" 

Brent smirk. "I know for a long time that I’m handsome Ate. Remember, you always calling me baby handsome." he winked at me after he said it.

I pretend that I don’t remember anything about it. "Did I? I can’t remember anything about it. All I remember was I always calling you Baby bro…” I glance at Kuya Theo. “right Kuya?" I added.

Kuya Theo’s chuckled and start messing up Brent’s hair. "Yeah! Leanne didn’t call you handsome before." 

They start teasing each other until someone speaks behind me.

"Theo, you’re here and you bring a guest."

Even without looking at it, I know who owns that voice. It was the voice of someone who used to sing when I was young. My heart starts beating abnormally. My mom.

Kuya Theo looks at me and holds me both in my shoulders. Then he glances back to mom.

"Mom, this is my gift for your birthday." Kuya joyfully announce. 

Kuya Theo turned around to face my mom. I look up and saw my mom with my dad. My mom look shocked as she saw my face and after a couple of seconds, she gasped and her eyes look at me softly.

"My baby Leanne." Mom uttered as she walks closer to me. “My baby is back! Sebastian looks, our baby girl is back." And pulled me into a hug.

My mom free me from the hug and look into my face. Her hands caged my face. She stared at me as if memorizing every feature and angle of my face. 

"You’re back! And I missed you so much. I'm sorry! Mommy will make it up to you." Mom said and hug me again.

As my mom hugged me, I looked at my dad who’s walking closer to me and mom. He hugged both of us and kiss me on my forehead. "I miss you and I'm sorry my princess." 

I bit my lip trying to stop my sob before nodding at dad and a smiled at him. I can’t believe that they welcome me like this. Kuya Theo and Brent came closer to us.

"Family group hug!" they both shouted. 

And the two them joined us in a hug. And for the first time in eleven years. This the first time I felt really happy. I feel like I'm whole again.
