Chapter 7: Andrew

When we finally cleared out of the office, Hunter and I walked straight downstairs. Sitting at the bottom of the stairs was one of our younger omegas. As soon as she spotted us, she stood up quickly and bowed her head. “Alpha, come quickly. Beta Austin sent me to come and get you, but Mr. John told me you were already on your way downstairs.” I c**k my head to the side. “What is wrong? Is everything okay?” The omega shrugs her shoulders. “I’m not sure, Alpha. All I know is that I am supposed to lead you to the dungeon.” I nod my head and sweep my arm out in front of us. “By all means, lead the way.” I look over at Hunter with a confused look. What could this be about? I’m not sure. If it was a true emergency, then surely they would have mind linked us, right? That is what I thought too. Whatever the case may be, let’s hurry up and get there so we can make sure everything is alright. We quickly walk out of the pack house and start heading towards the dungeon. I stop short when I catch the faintest whiff of something. What is that smell? It smells like lilies and lavender. It is sweet, but very distinct. I shake my head and keep heading towards the dungeon. The closer we get, the stronger the smell seems to get. Before I even realize it, Fenrir is up and pacing in my head. Hey, what’s wrong? I’m not sure, but that smell… It smells so good. I know what you mean. What do you think it could be? I’m not sure, but when we get done figuring out what is going on, we will find that smell. I nod my head with new found determination to get this ordeal over with and quickly. I pick up my pace as we make it to the entrance of the dungeon. With every step, the smell keeps getting stronger and stronger. By the time I hit the stones of the dungeon I am about ready to run to get where we need to go. Hunter steps around me and stops me in my tracks. He looks at the omega and smiles. “Thanks, we can make it from here, kid.” The little girl looks up at Hunter and smiles. “Okay! Thank you for letting me help!” I smile and nod my head as the little girl runs off to go play. I turn back and look at Hunter. “Why did we stop?” Hunter takes in a shaky breath. “Something doesn’t feel right.” I shake my head and look at him confused. “I don’t feel anything. What cell is the wolf in?” Hunter sighs and nods his head down the hall. “Last one of the right. We decided to place her in the largest cell.” I move past Hunter and start walking towards the cell. With every step, the smell intensifies. Why is it getting stronger? Is there a she-wolf in heat or something? I am about fifty feet away when I feel it. It is the wave of an out of control aura. I rush forward and start heading straight for the last cell. I look over my shoulder and see that Hunter can’t seem to move. I stop in my tracks and turn around. “Hunter! What’s wrong?” He is grunting and bowing his head. “I…. I… I can’t… I can’t move!” I growl and turn back towards the cell door. I don’t know what is going on, but I have to find out. “You just stay here! I will go check on everyone else.” “Andrew! Please! Get Amanda out of there!” He is panting as he starts to move farther away from the cell. I nod my head and call back to him. “I will! Just hang tight, I’ll be right back.” I rush towards the cell and that is when I notice the blue glow. What the f**k is going on? What could possibly be making that light? I keep pushing. This aura is super strong. Who does it belong to? As I push open the cell door, I see Austin holding Tracey on the ground and I see Amanda crawling towards the lone wolf in the center of the cell. The wolf’s eyes are wide open and they are glowing blue. What the f**k is going on? I turn and grab Amanda by her arm first. I pull her away from the lone wolf and out of the cell. I run her down to Hunter who is standing at the edge of his limit. “Take her and run! I don’t know what is going on, but run!” Hunter nods his head, picks Amanda up in his arms, and bolts out of the dungeon. I run back to the cell and force my way into the cell and past the aura. It is really strong, but it doesn’t seem to be affecting me that much. I bend down and grab Tracey. I lift her into my arms and look at Austin. “Austin! Come on, man! I’ve got Tracey! I need to get you both out of here!” Austin nods and grunts as he starts trying to move towards the door. I throw Tracey’s limp body over my shoulder and grab his arm. I start pulling him behind me as hard as I can. I run them both out of the cell and start moving towards the exit of the dungeon. When we are all safe outside, I set Tracey gently on the ground and look between the three of them. “What the f**k was that? What happened?” All three of them are panting and trying to stretch out their muscles. Amanda is the one who answers though. “That was Star. She is the lone wolf we found last week. I don’t know what happened or what is going on. All I know is that she was in the middle of responding to us via whiteboard and the next her eyes started glowing and her aura pinned us all down.” I look around and see the glowing becoming more intense. I shake my head and look back at them. “Was this intentional?” Amanda, Tracey, and Austin all shake their heads. Austin speaks up. “No, this was not intentional. If this had been intentional, I feel all three of us would be dead.” Amanda sits up on the gras and looks up at me. “The weird thing is, her aura felt kind of nice. It was overbearing and overpowered, but it felt nice.” I rub my hand across my face. What the f**k is going on? I look back at the dungeon and I set my jaw. “I’m going back in. It is clear to me now that this lone wolf is no ordinary wolf. She is an alpha and I am the only one she is going to respond to.” Austin quickly grabs my arm. “Are you crazy? If you go in there, you might end up hurt. You might end up dead!” I shake my head and knock his hand off of my arm. “No, I’m not. What I am going to do is make sure that this young wolf gets out of whatever the f**k that is, alive! I am not going to be the reason she dies because I was too afraid to step in and help.” I turn back towards the entrance and take a deep breath. Fenrir, are you ready for this? Yes, I am. I want us to go see her and see her real eyes. Alright, be strong and help me get through this. We are going to need both of us to do this. I will always be right here next to you. I push forward and start heading straight for the cell. Her aura is starting to rush down the hallway in strong waves. I don’t know what is going on, but I have to save this girl. I have to make sure she comes back alive. I push past each wave and make it to the cell door. I stand at the cell door and watch as pain ripples across her face. Whatever is happening to her, is not good. I push forward and I get to where I can touch her. I place a firm, but gentle hand on her head and I do the one thing I can. I use my alpha tone. “Star! You need to calm down! You need to come back to us! You are going to hurt yourself and others if you don’t come back and calm the f**k down!” In an instant, the wolf’s eyes stop glowing. She lowers her head and as her aura starts to pull back. I take a deep breath in and that is when it hits me. That is when everything falls into place. The scent, the fact the aura isn’t affecting me, the fact that she listened to me; all of it makes so much sense now. I feel Fenrir go alert in my head. His tail starts wagging happily and I feel a light and joyful emotion sweep over me. He echos one word in my head as I feel the bond snap into place. Mate!
