Chapter 1: Milly

1969 Words
Today is the day… Today is the day Liam finally comes back to me. Over two years and I will finally get to see him again and he will be all mine. That whole bullshit of him finding his mate and wanting to break up… I know it was a lie. It hurt, but I know that he only did it to try and make me feel weak. It had to have been a test. A stupid test, but a test nonetheless. It was so stupid that I didn’t even bother to tell Mia about it. I crawl out of bed, use the bathroom really quickly, head out of my room, and walk down the hallway to the elevator. Since I got Star, my wolf, on Sunday, I haven’t needed as much sleep. She keeps waking me up before dawn each morning to go for a run around Winter Moon. I do as she likes because I know at the end of the day, she needs this time out to grow stronger. I head straight outside and shift and go for a quick two mile run. I know I will want to get cleaned up before breakfast and I know that Mia is going to need help with the twins. She does her best, but taking care of two toddlers is a lot for anybody. As I run, I start to notice more and more around the property. Little changes that I never noticed before. You could always just take this time to relax. I know you are nervous about seeing Liam again. I know, Star… It is just that we haven’t talked at all since that day. I feel like he is still going to be mad at me over what I said. Well… If I am being honest, it doesn’t really matter. If we are truly mates with this man, then nothing that has happened in the past is going to matter. I sigh. You are right about that, but I still have this sick feeling that he is going to still be overly mad at me. Well, for now, why don’t you just sit back and let me do all the work? There is no need for you to be stressed over all of this. You’re right. Thank you, Star. I sit in the back of our mind and allow Star to run as she pleases. We end up running about three miles before we are back at the stairs to the pack house. When I get back to the pack house, I shift, grab my robe that I always bring down with me, and head back upstairs to take a nice hot shower. Once I have gotten myself cleaned up, I start my normal routine for the day. I wake up early, go for a run, grab a quick shower, get the twins up and ready for the day, and then feed all three of us as we watch TV together and wait for everyone else to wake up. Once I got the twins out of the bath and dressed them in something warm, I walked them both down the hall and into the common area. I turn on Bluey for the twins to watch as I start making some breakfast for everyone. When I finally finished breakfast, I made plates for the twins and myself and set them down in their highchairs to eat. It wasn’t long after that that everyone else started to wake up. “Milly!” I hear Mia shout from the hallway. I stand up, grab Zachary and head straight for the doorway. “I’m right here, no need to shout. We were just watching Bluey.” This is where a typical morning starts to unfold. Max, Mac, Walter and Will all show up one by one and I am forced to watch Mia and Will as they start to get lovey dovey with each other. Yuck! I fully ignore them and go back to focusing on the kids. At some point, I look up and see Max staring down at me. “What?” He sighs and sits down next to me on the floor. “Has Liam really not talked to you in the last six months?” I sigh and shake my head. “No… He has, but it hasn’t been all that great. The last time we spoke together, he insisted that we break up because he stated he found his mate. I didn’t believe him, and I still don’t believe him. It was a pretty ugly fight. We both said things that I know we both regret. I just want him here so I can make things up with him and get back to where we were before they kicked him out of the pack.” Max shakes his head. “Why do you think he would make that up?” I scoff. “To test me. We both said that we would be the other’s chosen mate no matter what happened. It had to be a test to see if I could truly withstand the test of anything that is thrown at our relationship.” Max sighs. “He wasn’t lying though. I’ve met Isabella. She is a wonderful person.” “Isabella is a ghost. Don’t try to fool me.” I stand up and place Zachary on the ground next to Max. “It is your turn to watch the kids. I’m going to go and relax a bit more before he shows up and tells me to get packed to head home.” I stomp out and head straight for my room. There is no way that Max is right. He can’t be right… Can he? I head straight for my room and start getting ready for the day. I decided to put on makeup and hair to show Liam that I wasn’t fazed by his rude and crude comments towards me so long ago. I am going to be the most desirable and attractive person in this whole damn world! I have to make Liam regret what he did. He can’t know just how bad his false words hurt me. He can’t know how many tears I spilled over this stupid ass test of his. I throw on my cutest outfit that I have. Ripped black skinny jeans, a black tank top with a light blue skull on the front, my black leather jacket, my black combat boots, and a black and light blue striped beanie. I take a look in the mirror and sigh. I rip the beanie off my head and fix my hair back. You aren’t a child anymore, Milly! Do better! That looks better, in my opinion. Much more mature than what it was. I purse my lips and decide to change into a light blue tank top instead of the graphic skull one I had on. This looks so much better. I slide my leather jacket back on and head for the door. I have to wear long sleeves right now at all times… I think I will have to for the rest of my life. I can’t let them see the scars. If they see them, it would be the end of my life as I know it. As I come around the corn, I end up seeing Mia with a huge smile on her face.“Come on… He’s here.” I swallow hard and head down stairs with the rest of the family. You would think they all missed him so dearly since they were all the ones who sent him away. I begged them to let him stay here, but they wouldn’t allow it. We all squeeze out onto the front porch as his car pulls up to the steps. I decide to say at the very back and on the top step for a number of different reasons. One, I am the shortest person here. Two, I want him to be able to see me when he steps out. Three, I want to see the shock in his eyes when he realizes I am not phased by his damn lies. I know he didn’t find his mate. I know he didn’t. The car door on the driver’s side of the SUV opens up. Huh… That’s weird? Why would he sit on the driver’s side? Usually you sit on the passenger’s side when you are riding alone. That is protocol for all alpha families. Oh well. It doesn’t matter. I see his black hair run around the back of the car, and he slams straight into Will’s chest for a bear hug. He is so handsome. He changed his hairstyle. It is no longer the long curls he used to have. Now it is closer to what Will has only a little longer on top. It still looks good, but it isn’t him. He and Will chuckle and laugh, and I see his radiant smile glow on his face. He is so beautiful. Goddess, I missed him so much. He is not our mate. What? Star… We knew he wouldn’t be our fated mate. He couldn’t be. Not with Mia and Will fated together. He is not our mate. You said that already. Why does it matter? He is our chosen mate. No… He isn’t… “I’m so excited to see all of you! I have someone you guys have to meet.” I c**k my head to the side. Who did he bring with him? “Oh, did you finally bring Noah with you?” Mia’s right… We haven’t met his beta yet. It is probably Noah. Why would Noah be riding on the passenger’s side though? Oh well, at least I get to meet the Beta of my new pack before Liam takes me home. Will leans back and looks behind him. The passenger door opens slowly and out steps a young she-wolf with hispanic features. She has golden caramel skin with rich brown eyes and thick black curls that flow down her back. This isn’t Noah… My breath catches in my chest. She is beautiful. I feel a crushing pain as realization sets in. No… No… NO… This can’t be happening. It just can’t be happening! I feel the tears start trying to come forward. You don’t know who she is. You don’t know anything. Just breathe. There has to be a rational explanation for all of this. Liam steps back and pulls her close to his side. That is when I notice the mark on her neck, and I feel my stomach drop. No… Please, Goddess, no… NO!!! Even from this far away I can see it. I can sense it… I can smell it… “Everybody, this is my mate, Isabella. Isabella, this is my whole family.” I feel my throat start to close, and my knees go weak. I gasp for air. I can’t do this. I just can’t do this. “What…” His eyes snap to me. Those green eyes that I fell in love with. Those green eyes that I trusted! This can’t be happening… It can’t be happening. Why is this happening?! I feel my body react without even realizing it. Star… I’m on it. Star shifts into her form and I fall into the back of my mind as she starts running. I don’t even pay attention to where we are going. Just hang tight, Milly. I am going to take over for the time being, okay? Please… I just want to die. I know… But we can’t die. He is not worth our tears or our life. He is not Mate. He is never going to be Mate. I will find Mate. Just let me take control, okay? Star… Save me… I don’t want to die. We won’t…
