Chapter 4 Hunter

"Mate." Rory suddenly heard a low growl. Aria, who had just been agitated, was suddenly gone. "Aria?" asked Rory, but she received no answer. "Rory?" King Blake looked at Rory and shook the gun in his hand to persuade her to take it. Rory took the shotgun but kept worrying about where Aria went, leaving her alone. After King Blake changed his clothes, the crowd followed the Lycan warriors into the hunting ground. Many people came there just because they wanted to see King Blake. So, those who were not good at hunting stayed in the camp, including Alpha Cole, and Sylvia. Although they were werewolves, hunting while using a shotgun was not something even an Alpha and Luna could be good at. It was a sport that needed skill than predator’s natural killing instinct. Cole picked up a binoculars after thinking about Rory's words. There was a huge range in the hunting ground. Rory felt excited while she was riding her horse as if something that had been suppressed on her had finally been awakened. She had lights in her eyes and seemed as free and unrestrained as ever. Alpha Cole put down the binoculars after a long silence. He never knew the woman he thought was boring was actually so cool. Nicki couldn't ride horses and had to wait for Rory with the hounds. When Rory rolled off her horse, Nicki looked up and saw King Blake looking at her friend. Nicki instantly had a bad feeling. "Ms. Lane, Ms. Joseph, King Blake said that the person with the most hunts today can take their favorite trophy, or tame pony and deer from here." The Beta, who worked for King Blake, approached Rory and Nicki and said to them. "Rory, you can take that horse home if you come in first," Nicki exclaimed with a gleam in her eye. Rory was a little tempted by the offer. Few of the Alphas and Lunas were really good at hunting, so only Blake and Rory ended up with nineteen hunting trophies. When the event was almost over, Rory looked up at a black goose hovering in the air. Blake loaded his pistol and shot at the black goose in the sky. He had a very good shot, so Rory knew she would lose. But after one shot, the goose still circled freely in the sky. Rory was so stunned that she glanced at him. His gun was still smoking at the muzzle. He calmly and decently put away the gun and handed it to his assistant behind him. "King Blake would have won against Ms. Lane if he had hit the target this time." Many onlookers felt surprised. "What a pity! That Black Goose would have belonged to King Blake. It was so close!" "Indeed. Pity," Blake said as he took off his gloves and looked up at Rory. Rory raised her gun and hit the black goose effortlessly. Hearing the people around her marvel, she looked at the ground in deep thought. After the hunt, an open-air barbecue was held there at noon. Rory's appetite was good, but Nicki was a little upset. "Those two idiots!" Nicki muttered as she took an indignant bite out of a chicken wing that she was holding. Rory looked in the direction where Nicki was looking. Alpha Cole was meticulously grilling meat for Sylvia, and she was leaning on his shoulder. "They're so in love. Why are you mad?" Rory thought that Nicki's reaction was a little funny. She then handed her some fishes. "I'm doing it for you, of course! Those two idiots are such an eyesore!" Nicki said, disgruntled, as she ate the fish. "Ladies! Are you guys having lunch?" A man asked while they were busy chatting with each other. Rory looked up and realized that the man was Beta Hunter, who worked for King Blake. "I'm Beta Hunter, and I'm also King Blake's cook. He asked me to bring you the black goose you hit as a dish. Here you go." Hunter introduced himself kindly as he placed the plate of black geese on the table. Rory raised her head. Although Beta said that he was a chef, he wore a luxury watch. "Hunter, do all the chefs who work for King Blake are as rich as you are?" Nicki immediately asked "That's mostly because King Blake is extremely wealthy," Hunter said smugly while cutting the black goose into small pieces for the two of them. Nicki and Rory both couldn't help but laugh. Alpha Cole was angrier when he heard the three of them laughing. He even thought the delicious roast meat had become as bad as a candle. He had never known Rory to be that perky in his three years of married life with her. "Cole, is the man with Ms. Lane a friend of hers?" Sylvia looked at Rory and asked. "I don't know. Lu... Rory doesn't seem to have many friends. She seems to like that man, though. " Cole's good friend who was sitting with them answered instead while he was glancing at Rory in disbelief. "Is he Rory's admirer? Or is he her boyfriend? It's a good thing that Alpha Cole got divorced her, or..." He shut up when he realized Cole didn't look happy. Cole frowned, his hands gradually clenched into fists. He finally realized why she was willing to divorce him. Rory and Nicki both notice that Cole was watching them. Once Hunter left, Nicki couldn't help but glare at Cole and say, "Why does he keep looking at us?" "Probably because I'm look great," Rory replied slowly while drinking. When King Blake, who was sitting on the second floor, heard Rory's words, he laughed out loud. Beta Hunter even looked at Blake in surprise. The only time he had seen Blake laugh like that in all the years that he worked for him was when the Cloud Pack was attacked, and most of the pack's werewolves were killed. "Did you send black goose to the ladies?" Blake asked. "What exactly do you mean by that? You asked me to cook for them, right? Did you fall in love with one of them?" Hunter nodded and asked again, feeling puzzled. Blake was very calm. As he stood on the second floor looking at the endless woods and everything on the hunting ground, he thought about the arrow he had shot off. He looked at Hunter and replied thoughtfully, "No. I just want someone to remember that she owed me a favor." The barbecue party lasted for more than three hours. Rory slipped out midway to pick up her trophy. According to Blake's rules, she could take the pony she liked or any other animal that she wanted. Although Rory preferred the horse, she ended up picking a deer. "Ms. Lane, King Blake asks you to meet him," a bouncer said to her after she had picked out her trophy. "The Lycan King wants to see me?"
