Chapter 3

Ana pulled her head free of Matt's grasp and stepped back, hitting the bed with her legs. Am I the only one who can hear him? “Hey” Matt said holding his hands up. “I didn’t mean to…you know…I was just looking at your split lip…” “Yeah, well…too close, Matt…seriously.” Ana said as she heard more expletives from the mirror. “f*****g liar!” Adrian growled. “He wants you!” “Look I’m fine…okay, so…” Ana looked awkwardly at the door for Matt to leave. “Yeah, okay then…anyway we are ordering pizza for dinner…what do you want on it?” “Oh, I’m fine for the status quo.” Ana said just wanting Matt to go away. “Okay…” Matt smiled pleasantly at her, his eyes twinkling with amusement as he left. Ana sat down on the bed with a heavy sigh of relief and glanced at the mirror as Adrian appeared. “You need to watch that one!” He growled intensely, his eyes burning with rage. “Seriously? Says the stalker in the mirror!” Ana retorted. Adrian looked slightly offended by that and went back to his chair and sat down, stretching his long legs out and crossing his ankles, he drew a cigarette out of a packet with his teeth and lit it with a silver zippo lighter then clicked the lighter shut. His eyes had never left her once and as he exhaled the smoke he smiled. “So you’re monster fighting?” “What of it?” “Do you use magic?” Ana squinted at him, turning so one leg was bent up on the bed as she faced the mirror and him. “No…I don’t.” Adrian looked amused at the twisted little scowl on her face. “Are you sure?” “Why wouldn’t I be sure?” “Because I know your blood line, baby girl.” He muttered darkly causing her to shiver and bite her lip, which in turn caused it to start bleeding again. She saw Adrian’s eyes darken from that distance as the blood ran down her chin. Ana snatched her lip into her mouth and stood up. She went to the bathroom, passing the mirror on her way. “No need to run off, baby girl.” She paused and glowered at the man in the mirror. “You need to stop that!” She carried on and got a cloth and held it to her lip as she stood in the doorway. From this angle she couldn’t quite see Adrian clearly but she could hear him chuckling to himself. She got annoyed at that and stormed back to face the mirror. “Just what the hell is your deal? Are you trying to seduce me?” No surely not...I'm being ridiculous! His eyebrows shot up in a delighted manner and he sat forward, leaning his elbows on his thighs as he grinned mercilessly at her. “Would you like me too?” “Argh!” Ana growled and sat down on the end of the bed. “Why are you blood suckers all the same?” “Are we? Come now you can’t blame me for your reactions…” “I can if you talk like that…” Ana spat out then instantly regretted it as she saw his amused stare turn into a dark simmering smolder. “Talk like what, sweet thing?” He literally purred at her in a deep sensual growl. “Are you telling me my voice turns you on? Or do you just like being called baby girl?” “Stop it! No! I hate it!” Ana said through gritted teeth, pressing her thighs together and rubbing her eyes, making her black eyeliner smudge. “Can you just tell me what you want? Why am I being cursed by your presence?” “So you don’t want me?” He actually managed to look a little hurt. Damn you! “No, I don’t!” “I will make you want me, baby girl.” Ana felt a jolt of lightning spear through her insides. What the hell? “Oh and how are you going to do that exactly...through a mirror? Because you are obviously somewhere far away…aren’t you?” Ana said in a smart-alec voice, but hoping it was true. Ana saw a flicker of annoyance cross Adrian’s face. She smiled to finally have some score up on him. “You will see, baby girl, what I can do even from a distance.” Oh god help me! My stupid smart mouth! Ana stood up, throwing the cloth on the bed, her lip had stopped bleeding again. “Give it your best shot.” She muttered at him and turned to leave. “Baby girl…” The voice that came out of the mirror then made her freeze in her tracks and flinch. It dripped danger and venom. He was clearly not a person to mess with and her flippant reply had pissed him off. “Look at me.” He breathed in a low calm dominant voice. Ana scrunched her eyes up and took a deep breath then turned towards the mirror. “I’m sorry…I certainly don’t want to go pissing off a powerful vampire but…” “Hush, pretty girl, and listen…your family have been, for hundreds of years, in loyal, agreed servitude to my family, dating back to times when magic and vampires were hidden from this world...you were unknown and therefore lost to me….but I found out and started searching for you…have no doubt, dear one…you belong to me and you will return to me, but after seeing you last night…” Ana’s eyes came up, wide and fearful, she knew he meant practically naked. Why me, oh god, why me… “…I want you, gorgeous girl…and I will make you want me.” Adrian continued. Ana’s knees went weak and she almost fell to the floor from the news but staggered back to the bed. “Why?”   Suddenly her door opened, the mirror going back to her reflection, and Sam walked in. “Ana, are you okay? Who are you talking too? You know it’s a sign of madness when you start talking to yourself.” Sam laughed. Ana was staring at her looking bewildered by everything Adrian had said, she must have looked a mess. “Ana? Are you alright…you look like you’re going to be sick?” Sam said concerned coming over. “I’m fine, Sam, you just startled me…how about knocking first next time…” “Oh, right…sorry…I thought Matt told you we were getting pizzas…or did he just try and get in your pants…he’s such a trier…” “What the hell?” Ana said frowning, she rubbed her eyes again, she was getting so confused, was this what it was like to be an adult. She wondered if she could hand it back somehow… “You shouldn’t wear all that crap round your eyes if you’re going to rub them like that…it’s smudging.” Sam said tartly. “Ah…yeah…okay…” Ana got up and went to the bathroom to fix her face, her head still reeling. “What’s with all the blood?” Sam asked seeing the cloth. “Oh, my lip started bleeding again…it’s nothing really.” “Okay...well...pizzas have arrived and beers too, so hurry up already…before they are all gone.” “Coming…” Ana walked back out to the waiting girl and glanced worriedly at the mirror as she past it. “Have fun…” She heard the voice purr out clearly amused. As she closed her bedroom door she let out an exhaustive breath. Vampires were intense, and she got the distinct feeling she shouldn’t say anything to the rest of them about her friend in the mirror, especially before she got him to explain what the hell he had just told her about her family and belonging to him. She shuddered with fear.
