I closed my eyes, and they snapped open again as I got goosebumps over my entire body. From the corner of my eye, I saw a dark shadow in the hall. I got up and rushed to my door. It was half open, and I yanked on the door, but there was nothing there. I walked down the hall; something told me to just keep walking. I went downstairs and stood in the open-plan kitchen in front of the large sliding doors that led to the patio. At the edge of the garden I saw it. The movement was so slight that I almost missed it. A large brown wolf stood in the shadows of the trees where the woods ended and our garden began. I stood for a full minute and watched him as he watched me in return.
