It was bloody raining on a day like this. I stood outside the company building like an i***t, waiting for the rain to stop.
I checked my watch to see the time, but it had to stop working. Seriously, today was turning into the worst day ever. I searched my bag for my phone.
But I couldn't find it.
I searched for the whole bag and nothing. The last time I saw it was in the CEO'S office, which was unreasonable, because why would the CEO take her phone?
On turning to walk back into the building, I tripped about to land on my ass, but I didn't. I looked up to see the CEO looking down at me and not in an impressed way.
"It's funny seeing someone trip over their own feet." I didn't know if he was teasing me, but the embarrassing blush on my cheeks wasn't helping.
"Those shoes are expensive." He said passively after a moment.
And I jerked out of his arms. "Sorry, sir."
"You forgot your phone," he spoke again, and I quickly took my phone from his hand.
"Thank you." I turned my back to him, staring into the unending rain. I couldn't bear just standing there in the same space with him. I didn't like how he made me feel.
So I attempted to run through the rain to my car, but he grabbed me by the arm. "What are you doing?"
My insides screamed at his innocent touch on my arm. "I'm just trying to get to my car."
His ever calculating gaze remained on me. "It's raining."
"I can see that, but I have to go."
"You shouldn't go in the rain."
"Don't you have work to do?" I questioned him without thinking.
His face held no expression as he replied me "I am very busy. I'm actually on my way out to check out a branch of my company. Do you need a lift?"
"I have a car, no thank you." I said snappishly, and he recoiled.
His secretary brought out an umbrella, "Give the umbrella to my P.A."
The woman looked at him, confused. "Who, sir?"
"She miss Alexa Cross." He said plainly, and the secretary's eyes nearly left their sockets.
"Her? sir I think you should reconsider, she has no work experience or higher educational background..."
Josh looked at the secretary, and I could swear I saw her shrink. "Did I ask for your opinion, Marcie?"
The secretary shook her head. "No sir, I spoke out of turn. Forgive me."
She shoved the umbrella in my hands and scurried away.
I stood there like a statue. "Well? are you going to take me to my car or not?"
"I applied for a house keeper sir, not a P.A." I enquired softly.
As if exasperated with talking, he started walking ahead of me. "I need both. You seem good for the job and I want you around me always."
The butterflies I felt as he said that was unimaginable. I followed him, holding the umbrella above his head, which wasn't easy because he was way too tall for a 5'4 woman.
At a point he stop suddenly and I ran into his back he turned to face me and I stepped back "It's your first day on the job Miss Cross and you are not impressing me, would you like to be fired after five minutes of being hired?"
He asked, and I felt a chill in my bones, and I shook my head vigorously. "Of course not, sir. I'm just trying to keep up with your pace."
"Well, it's not my fault you have short legs now, is it?" he snapped at me and I felt like had been slapped.
I shook my head again. "No sir, it isn't."
"Good, now keep up and stop giving excuses." He said, already walking, and this time I followed his pace.
Walking as fast as I could when he suddenly grabbed me by the waist and pulled me to the side.
As a car drove past us, "Have you lost your mind?"
"I didn't see the car." I protested.
"That's because you keep looking at your feet. You've only worked for me for ten minutes and you almost get both of us killed. How exciting! I'm starting to think I made the wrong choice hiring you," he said through clenched teeth.
His voice was leveled, yet I felt like he was yelling at me. "I'm sorry, sir."
"Then act like you're sorry. I don't like mistakes. Make another one and you're fired." He said sternly, and she knew he meant every word.
Not because she was trapped in between his arms and the heat of his body as she leaned on a car, both of them being beaten by the rain cause their umbrella had fallen.
A man stepped out of the expensive Mercedes, hysterical, already apologizing, "I'm sorry sir, my phone wasn't with me and I...."
"You are fired. Keys?" he demanded, and the man handed over the keys.
"Get out of my face," he said flatly. The driver tried apologizing one more time.
"Sir, I can explain."
Josh gave him an uninterested look. "I really don't care what your reason is. Your job is to pick me up and drop me off at my destination, and you can't even do that so. You are fired end of discussion."
Josh moved to pick up the umbrella then escorted, me to the door of the car he opened and I stared at him for a moment "Is there anything else you'd like boss?" he said sternly and I knew I screwed up again and he'd probably fire me at this point.
So I quietly stepped into the car and sat down. He sat in the driver's seat and started the car. When I say this is the most luxurious car I'd ever been in. I mean, it's the most luxurious car I've ever been in. I tried not to stare, but it was next to impossible.
"I'm going to assume that you are new to the job and I have to teach you the basics but I will only teach you once," He said, moving out of the parking lot.
"I normally don't do this, but I can't help it. So make sure you learn everything I'm about to say. I will only say them once got it?" he asked.
And I nodded "Yes, sir."
He looked at me for a second. "You're so cute. Good girl."
Josh Darlos, CEO of Digi Tech, thinks I'm cute? Am I dreaming? And has the word good girl always sounded so sexy?
