It's another day of school; Angel is walking in the school hall. Today, she has braided her hair into two parts and it exposes her face. She has never tried this before, but her life is need of desperate change and what better way to start with her hair.
She turns to her locker and unlocks it.
Angel has six more minutes to class and she doesn't plan on pretending to be busy with something in her locker. The moment she gets a hold of the note book she needs, she jams her locker back and heads to class.
She has seen no sign of Tess or Eric, Angel is liking today already. The moment she gets to class, she stops and her heart thuds due to the person she finds sitting alone in the class. Sawyer is right there focused on his phone; he has not seen her yet.
There is a book on in his table, the pages are open, but his main focus remains on his phone. He is wearing his white t-shirt uniform today; the PESTs aren't subject to the rules of the school because their parents practically own it and they can do whatever.
But Sawyer is an exception, he's following the rules.
Angel watches as his lips murmurs something quietly, his tanned bronze coloured skin tone is making the morning light seem useless as the bright light contrasts and evens his perfect nature.
He looks calm and docile from where she stands as she watches him focus, it's like she shouldn't go over to her seat, she does not want to stop gazing at him.
Angel walks towards her seat and the sound of her feet catches his attention and he looks up to her.
"Morning." Angel says before she seats.
He nods, he doesn't say morning back.
Angel opens her bag and places on his table a small brown shopping bag. Sawyer looks at her and removes the ear pods in his ear in order to know what's up.
"It's your shirt." Angel whispers before bringing out her notes and focusing on her work.
Sawyer peeps into the bag, slightly interested even when he knows that it's his belonging that's in there. After looking into it, he looks over to her.
What is your username? He asks.
Huh? Angel answers, truly confused.
"On Instadot." He replies without taking his gaze off her.
Ah. Angel says.
She hesitates to speak, but he's gazing right at her and waiting for a response.
"It's Sunshine_angel."
The moment Angel says it, he laughs and she covers her mouth to hide her hilarity too.
She turns to him and watches as he types it in. She gets a notification on her phone and she reads.
SawyerMorgan just followed you.
Angel taps into his profile, her eyes scan his numerous pictures all at once before she taps the follow back option. Sawyer receives the notification too and he smiles.
Angel clears her throat.
She thinks this would be the best time to thank him for helping her, the class is empty with only them and it doesn't weigh upon her.
"Um...thank you." Angel says turning to him.
Sure.
After a moment of silence, Sawyer asks the first question.
Do you really want to become a PEST? The moment she hears his question, her heart thuds.
She swallows and places a hand on her forehead.
Yeah.
Can I know why? You've gotten to the next stage, although I don't know what it entails since it's up to the girls, but you stand a chance of winning.
You don't know what it entails? Angel asks in somewhat relief.
Sawyer turns to her when he hears her, she sounds surprised.
No.
"The girls are in charge." He says.
Oh.
Angel says turning to her note.
So? Sawyer waits for an answer.
"I just want to be a part of something." Angel replies without looking at him.
He doesn't say anything after she speaks; he stares back at his phone before looking back at her.
Do I sound lonely? Angel asks when he doesn't say anything after she answers his question.
Sawyer smiles a bit.
"Lonely is good too." He says.
"I wish you luck, Sunshine Angel."
Angel smiles and faces him.
Her heart skips when she notices that he is smiling at her too.
"I've never seen you in the cafeteria before." He says.
"I eat somewhere else." Angel replies bluntly because her reason for ditching cafeteria all this time is linked with her insecurities. She will never willingly put herself where Tess and her underlings are, giving them easy access to publicly shame her.
It's the cafeteria and whatever happens stays there!
After sensing that she must have been too blunt to his question, she tries again and this time she lets down her high raised defences.
"If you would like to join me sometime..." Angel says attempting to gain his presence in her life.
"Yes, anyway you owe me." Sawyer says.
Yes. Angel replies and nods at the same time.
She hears the bell rings and in no time people began to rile into the class. Angel looks down at her phone and begins to stare at Sawyer's pictures.
She quietly laughs when she sees a picture of him where he's holding a puppy; she reads the caption and gets to know that the name of the puppy is Junior. She scrolls after and finds a picture where he is shirtless in front of a mirror.
Angel takes a longer look at it and scrolls forward even when she doesn't want to. The class is now filled with overwhelming chatter and it tells her that a teacher isn't present yet.
She heads back to her profile and the only post available is one of two years ago where she went to an amusement park. It is the last day she remembered being happy about something and thus, she saved the memory and every time she looked at it, it makes her smile.
"Talking about smiles."
Angel recognizes a voice that sends shudder to her spine and reminisces of trauma that are still fresh. When she looks up, she sees Tess standing right next to Sawyer.
Angel is shocked.
Why is Tess Middleman here?
Tess has a huge smile on her face as she stands next to Sawyer's desk, he raises his head and she pushes her platinum blonde curls as she blushes. She drops a milk drink on his desk and pouts like she's expecting him to do something. Everything she was doing right now was an obvious abstract of phony, bogus and fake!
Everyone in Crestville High knew Tess middleman was a beast in every way possible; her greatest talent is to humiliate people.
She is wearing her school shirt but she has turned to into a beach wear, it literally has her belly button naked and her skirt starting halfway below her waist. And all are against school rules for common folks like them.
Tess arches her back to catch Sawyer's eye and at this point, she looks like a macaroni or is it a banana?
She has gone a great deal to showcase her long, thin legs apart from her inappropriate school wear. Her lips are in vibrant red lipstick as she flutters her eyelashes.
The class attention is on her at this point, everyone wants to see if Sawyer Morgan will brush off the Tess Middleman that they are all lusting after. That silence eats the class as Tess waits for Sawyer to say something.
Sawyer looks over the milk drink at the table and places it on Angel's table. The first thing that happens is the scream of humiliation and mortification that the class pours on Tess's public ridicule.
Angel is confused.
What did she have to do with anything?
Why did he give it her in the first place?
Angel looks up and what she sees is Tess's blazing eyes gazing at her with so much fury, followed by the roars coming from their peers. The home room teacher barges in and looks over to Tess.
"Middleman, meet me in my office right now."She says and walks back out.
Tess angrily follows in suit and stomps her way out of the classroom.
Angel faces Sawyer; he is still sitting unbothered like he has not done anything.
How can he act so calm after doing that?
Angel looks at the milk drink on the table and decides to pretend like she did not see anything. What amazes her the most is that Sawyer Morgan did not get attracted to her like how other boys would have. He didn't even give her a response, he could literally see through her phony pretence.
And what makes it more interesting for Angel is that he has spoken to her, and has even assisted her in her time of need.
What makes him act nicer towards her?
Since he transferred to their class, she has been the only one he has interacted with; he even said he wanted to keep the seating arrangement.
Could Sawyer Morgan have a soft spot for her already?
