Bryce aged ten - Ashton’s house after school
When she walked into Ashton’s with Tucker I couldn’t help but smile. She was an angel between a rose amongst many thorns. Ashton looked disgusted by her appearance. I don’t understand why. I’ve seen the way he looks at her. We all did even if Courtney and Tucker hadn’t noticed we had. “What the hell, Tucker? I said no girls.”
“Sorry man, but mom insisted. You should’ve told her you didn’t want her here.”
“Like I wanted to be here.” She gritted out.
He sure angered my angel. “Come on man, one girl won’t kill us.”
“Shut the hell up Bryce if I wanted your opinion I’d ask for it.”
I flapped my arms in surrender.
“One night won’t he anyone Ash.”
“Who’s side are you on Jesse?”
“Yours but.”
“But nothing,”
“Let her stay.”
“No.”
“Come on just tonight if she doesn’t like it here or you don’t want her to come back she doesn’t have to come again.”
“Fine.” He sighed.
I grinned unnoticed.
“But if she winds me up, she’s gone.”
“Deal.”
“Come on sit down Courtney you're making the palace look untidy.”
They all laughed though two of them clearly didn’t find it funny as neither of them wanted to be in each other's company. Courtney didn’t want to be there and Ashton didn't want her there; this was going to be a fun night. “Come sit by me Courtney.&
She looked at me and scowled. I grinned trying my hardest not to laugh but failing
She huffed looking over to where me and Jess were sitting. “Come sit between us.”
“Hey, she’s my sister!”
“And nothing’s going to happen trust us.” I tapped the space in between me and Jesse. She huffed slumping down. “Well to your right is Jesse the douche sitting on the sofa next to your bro is Dawson and you already know Ashton so we’re all going to play Mario kart then mortal kombat whoever wins the round will go on to play one of the others you up for it?”
She nodded and smiled. God I loved her smile. I hope one day she will be more than just a friend. She's one of a kind. I can't understand why Ash chose not to invite her around.
We played for the next few hours. I must admit she was good, Ashton looked frustrated as it was only him and Courtney to have the best timings in Mario kart and they were the last row fighters left on mortal kombat. He eventually threw the controller down and shook her hand after she’d bet him one last round before we all headed home cause we a;l had school in the morning. “We’ll see you at school.”
“You will.” Tucker shouted back as he and Courtney walked away. I smiled.
“You best keep that to yourself, Bryce Tucker won’t like it.”
“I don’t know what you're talking about.”
“Don’t act dumb Bryce you like her.”
“Do not.” He argued.
“Don't fool yourself, Bryce cause one day it will come back and bite you on your ass when you least expect it.”
“Yeah yeah, whatever. I’ll see you tomorrow at school.”
“Yeah sure.”
Me and Jesse parted ways. I'd Jesse could see through me what if Dawson could? Even worse, Ashton I need to keep my emotions in check and act like my usual self unless we’re the only ones around we were friends after all, she’ll understand. I hope I close the door behind me heading up to my room laying in my bed sighing I really liked her and I really don’t care what ash had to say she’s my friend and always will be no matter what.
