Chapter 9 Keep It to Yourself

1147 Words
Gerald was still angry when he returned. He had wanted to scold Charlotte but noticed she wasn't in the office. He sneered and thought, She must be hiding. In fact, he was wrong. Charlotte left because she was starving and ate out. She returned to the office at one o'clock. When she returned, she found Gerald was waiting for her. "Charlotte, are you happy now?" She looked confused as she didn't know what he was talking about. "You've pissed Natalie off. So are you satisfied now?" I didn't piss her off! She just left herself. Charlotte thought to herself. She didn't have a mood to say anything. Seeing her keep silent, Gerald was outraged. He grabbed her wrist and then squeezed it hard. "You're such a petty woman! Why did you do this to her? Why did you make her angry on purpose?" He asked. Charlotte was used to being scolded by him for no reason. "Gerald, we are married. What she did is damaging our marriage now!" Since he insists on who I am, why bother to argue? He wouldn't believe me no matter what I said! The only person he cares about is Natalie! She thought. Charlotte guessed that Natalie might have defamed her in front of Gerald. Gerald trusted Natalie, so he believed all her bullshit! Charlotte knew that if it weren't for the accident today, she would have never talked to Gerald again. "You're such a vicious woman!" She didn't retort but calmly said, "Don't you forget you're married. If you continue to see her, it will make her a mistress. Her reputation will be ruined. Can you accept it?" Gerald found the word "mistress" very harsh. He couldn't accept such a label attached to the girl he cherished. He became so furious as if he was going to hit Charlotte the next moment! "Charlotte, if Natalie is hurt, you should take the blame!" he growled. "Gerald, you didn't oppose marrying me in the first place, did you?" Charlotte didn't know why Gerald had agreed to marry her. But, she knew he accepted the deal offered by Bruce and Mia! As a determined man, he would certainly not have compromised no matter how hard his parents forced him to. Charlotte got to the critical point. Then, Gerald's expression became gloomier. He stared at her menacingly. "That was all because of you!" He wanted to vomit just thinking he had s*x with this woman! Charlotte also had no idea what happened that night. She felt pity that there was no surveillance at Miller's house. She couldn't know the truth. So, why did I go to his room and have s*x with him? In any case, I was the one who got the short end of the stick. Not only did this man take advantage of me, but he also called me names. But, surprisingly, I had no evidence to prove my innocence. She thought. "Don't worry. Almost no one knows about our relationship. I'm warning you; you better keep it to yourself, or I won't let you off the hook!" Gerald said. Charlotte was a low-key person, so she wouldn't even tell anyone that she was married. "People will stop gossiping about us if you stop targeting me," she said. He let go of her wrist and grunted. Charlotte looked down at her wrist, which was already red and swollen, and rubbed it gently. Then, she frowned. People loved to gossip, especially in big companies. "Do you guys think that Miss Thompson is v's girlfriend?" "Definitely. No one can get into his office except her. Whenever she comes here, Mr. Miller will come downstairs to pick her up." "Wow! And he always looked at her with tender and doting eyes." "I also heard Miss Thompson can go directly to his office on the 28th floor. She even doesn't have to make an appointment. It is clearly a special treatment!" Charlotte was listening to the employees gossiping through the door in the bathroom. It turned out that Natalie often came to see Gerald. No wonder she seemed so familiar with the place. Charlotte thought to herself. "By the way, I heard the intern Charlotte Anderson works inside Mr. Miller's office." "What! That means she can spend time with him! Who the hell is she?" Someone lowered her voice. "I heard Noel say that she is Mr. Miller's personal assistant. But Mr. Miller didn't ask her to do any work." "I've heard that too! And it was Mr. Bruce who gave her this job. There must be a bigshot who supports her!" "Maybe Mr. Bruce thinks she's suitable to be his daughter-in-law. So he let her work here and wanted to set them up. If she works beside him every day, they would surely fall in love with each other." "No way! What about Miss Thompson then?" "Who knows? Maybe Mr. Bruce doesn't like Miss Thompson. As you know, rich people like people as rich as they are. But unfortunately, their sons are just like ordinary girls." Charlotte had to admire these people because their guesses were pretty accurate. She walked out only when everyone had finished gossiping and left. Charlotte got a call from Sally before she got off work. She then immediately walked downstairs to meet Sally. As soon as Sally saw Charlotte, she handed Charlotte a paper bag and said, "Look! It's all done here!" Charlotte unwrapped that bag and found a stack of handwritten scripts inside. Moreover, Sally organized the drafts. She had stapled each contract together, twenty copies in total. "Don't worry. I've counted them. They did a good job!" Sally said with pride. Charlotte hugged her and complimented, "Thank you! Sally, you are such a lifesaver! I love you so much!" "My pleasure, darling." "Just give me a minute. I'll give it to my boss. How about I take you to dinner then? " "Cool! I'll wait for you here." When Charlotte placed a thick pile of papers in front of him, Gerald looked up at her. "It's all done," she said. He didn't say anything and just flipped through the drafts. Then he noticed that they were written by different people. Gerald hadn't told Charlotte to copy them herself. So she found someone else. Every time he made things difficult for her, she could think of a good solution. He threw the draft heavily on the table. But Charlotte was not afraid of him and looked him in the eye. Gerald realized he hadn't made himself clear and let her find a loophole. He was pissed. But now, he couldn't do anything to her! "If that's okay with you, then I'm off. See you tomorrow, Gerald!" Charlotte packed her things quickly and left. She was afraid that Gerald would eat his words back. He looked at her with a grim look, You won't live such an easy life later!
