Chapter 15 Gifts for Charlotte

"Charlotte, are you alright? How did you sleep last night?"

Charlotte looked up when she heard the words. It was Mia who was gazing at her worriedly. Then, she shook her head and said, "I'm fine. I had a tight and sound sleep."

Evelyn grunted, "Yeah. She slept very well, but my dear grandson is still out there suffering!"

"Suffering? He's enjoying it!" Bruce sneered.

"You're right. Natalie takes care of him, and he certainly enjoys it."

"Evelyn, why do you like Natalie so much? She's not Gerald's wife. Charlotte is!"

"No! She is not!" Evelyn insisted.

In any case, Evelyn just didn't like Charlotte. Whenever the two of them came to the Miller house as guests, Evelyn only took good care of Natalie.

"No matter what, Charlotte is now a member of our family! Evelyn, I think you should accept this fact."

"So what? They can still divorce!"

Bruce immediately sulked and said, "Mom, don't be so mean!"

Charlotte didn't say anything but suddenly remembered what Natalie had told her before. She and Natalie seemed close, but she knew very well that Natalie despised her.

Charlotte knew that maybe Mia had been friendly to her at first because she felt guilty. But Charlotte could tell the difference between genuine emotions and fake ones. She did think that the Millers treated her like one of their own. If they only felt guilty, they wouldn't have been treating her like their daughter.

"Charlotte?"

"Yeah?"

"I've told the sales department. You can keep working there, but you don't have to go out and meet clients. You just need to do some clerical work," Bruce said.

"Yeah! It's scorching out there. Quit running around with those cunning men!" Mia echoed.

After Bruce found out Dale sent Charlotte to Carson Group, he severely scolded Dale yesterday. Bruce thought it was too much for Dale to take the liberty of assigning Charlotte such a challenging task.

"I got it. Thanks, Bruce."

Then, Charlotte remembered what had happened yesterday. She looked at Bruce and asked, "Bruce, I heard about yesterday's board meeting. You made Gerald the chairman?"

Bruce nodded in agreement.

"I'm only seeking retirement. I figured I worked so hard all my life but ignored my wife! I might just start taking Mia out more often! Gerald is an adult and is married, so it's time to put him in charge. I could tell he had the guts for it long ago, so I'll just let him do it."

Bruce planned to attend a press conference today and was going to make the news public there. From then on, Gerald would be the boss of Miller Group.

"I think Gerald is competent enough to live up to your expectations," Charlotte said.

"I hope he can work hard enough not to stink my bet."

Bruce brought a paper bag from his side. He then put the bag in front of Charlotte, "I never got around to giving you a gift before. Here, this is my wedding gift for you."

"Bruce, you don't have to do this!"

"I insist. It's a flat downtown. All yours. And here's the Porsche for your 20th birthday. Go for the garage whenever you feel like it."

Charlotte was shocked by how generous Bruce was. After all, a flat downtown could cost something like a million!

Mia, sitting beside Charlotte, said with a smile, "Honey, there are also some stores I'm going to give you. They are located in the Central Road business district. Someone will be in charge of them, and you can directly collect your share, which is wired every month."

"Charlotte, these houses and stores already belong to you. We are not going to take them back. Just take them!"

"It's all yours now. Do you think it's not enough? If that's the case, I'll give you another villa."

"Please don't! I'll take them."

A flat would be good, but as for the Porsche, Charlotte never even knew how to drive. Those stores were all fashion brand dealers that she didn't even dare to look into.

Charlotte put all those expensive things in her room. She felt that the reason why Bruce and Mia did this must be related to Gerald's running of Miller Group.

Charlotte smiled and replied, "No clue. I've never been to his place."

Sally's eyes widened in confusion, saying, "No way! You can't let that happen. If your husband doesn't come home, he must be out with another woman. Jeez. You're his wife! You should go find him!"

"Well, let's talk about that later!"

Suddenly, Sally grunted. She tugged on Charlotte's arm and told her to look ahead. Charlotte followed her gaze and found Natalie and Gerald walking side by side intimately. Natalie's hand was on Gerald's arm, and they looked like a good couple!

"Forget it, Sally. Let's go shopping."

At lunchtime, the news reported that Bruce Miller, the boss of Miller Group, had spoken at a press conference. Bruce said that he had decided to retire. Moreover, he passed the Miller Group to Gerald Miller, and now Gerald would be officially the new boss.
